Uzzi, Hill request NFL draft evaluation
Guard Omoregie Uzzi and wide receiver Stephen Hill both submitted paperwork to be evaluated by the NFL draft advisory board. The board, made up of NFL scouts and officials, gives players with remaining college eligibility an appraisal of their draft standing. The decision does not require them to forego their final year of eligibility. A-back Orwin Smith and cornerback Rod Sweeting did not and said they will return for their senior seasons. Uzzi and Hill also intend to return but left open the possibility of entering the draft.
If he were told he had a first-round standing, “I’d definitely look into it,” Uzzi said.
Hill said he submitted his name out of curiosity “and then just wanted to make sure of where I was and what I need to work on, things like that.”

Sounds to me like Nesbitt has a LOT OF REGRETS about playing in CPJ’s crappy gimmicky offense, but he “caught himself” and gave politically correct answer rather than THE TRUTH.

I think this shows what a delusional world Hill lives in. Most people would be embarrassed to come out and announce that, but Hill doesn’t care about getting better. He only cares about getting richer and famous. I think the Hill experiment should end soon. When they finally started going to Tyler Melton, he looked a lot better than Hill. Find a reciever that has some heart and throw the ball to him.

Hill actually had 2 “hilite” catches this year, and the first one could be considered the best catch of the year….but way too many other drops to be considered a great NFL receiver…..focus is the word I see the most….he needs it

George Stein….Thank you for posting the link to the Joshua Nesbitt story. I greatly admired the way he played the game and knew enough about him to know that he could be a better passing QB than he showed at GT. I have kept up with him at Buffalo as best I can. His heart and attitude carried GT quite a ways. After reading his comments, I believe he will succeed in his life. I knew he could play in the NFL if given the chance. I am very happy for him and wish him the best in life.

it must suck for receivers like hill who are obviously talented and good receivers to not be prepared for the nfl cuz of techs offfense. Plus they are underappreciated when it comes to the draft cuz they played in an option offense

You guys really shouldn’t get worked up by the comments of the person who calls herself “WnE.” This is someone who stalked Vad Lee obsessively via social media and is probably a complete psychopath. I mean, how messed up do you have to be to devote your life to stalking young boys and try to sway their college decisions?
She obviously hates Georgia Tech for some reason (her boyfriend failed out, I suppose?), and does nothing but try to make you guys angry.
Just skip over the post every time you see this person’s name. You won’t miss out on anything, I assure you.

Uzzi got his degree. My concern is that if his eval comes back that he needs pass blocking experience to raise his stock, he could transfer to another program and play immediately.
He would be sorely missed. I am sure that CJP & company are already planning for that possibility.

Sure glad to see Orwin is coming back. He made some big plays this year and should continue doing so in the bowl and in 2012. If he remains consistent he will be an early pick in next year’s draft.

MisterT – I don’t think he’s going anywhere. As for the Justin Thomas flipping, I don’t know that it had anything specifically to do with Vad Lee.
And as for Uzzi transferring, it’s an interesting theory, but I can’t see that happening. I could be wrong, but I feel pretty confident he’ll be back.

Hill certainly could use another year, but NFL, in particular, drafts players on potential. He has the body and the speed that they covet.He could easily be a mid round ‘project’ if he wants to go.
I agree he still has a lot to prove at this level before going to the next.

Today’s rankings update looks at the wide receivers. There have been several dramatic shifts on where players are ranked compared to two months ago when this was last done.
Namely, players like Dwight Jones of North Carolina, Mohamed Sanu of Rutgers, Nick Toon of Wisconsin and Marvin McNutt of Iowa have risen quite highly. The biggest dropper is Greg Childs of Arkansas. He’s been passed over by several teammates this season partly due to injury. Jeff Fuller of Texas A&M has slipped as well due to numerous shaky performances this season.

Hill has two things you can’t coach: size and speed. He was always going to have a chance at the NFL with those two gifts. Not picking on anyone in particular, but the majority of the blocking WR do in CPJ’s offense is stand-up, down-field run-blocking. That was a lot of hyphenated words in a row, so I’ll let our less-gifted (there’s another one) readers catch their collective breath. Stephen Hill is a very good blocker. And if you don’t think the NFL likes WR who can block, well, you don’t know anything about football.
So, to wrap up, if Hill can instill confidence in scouts he can catch the ball when it’s thrown to him, absolutely he’s got a shot to be a pro. He’ll have to prove at the combine or pro day he can run the routes NFL WR are required to run (Thomas had to do the same). If he does that he’ll get drafted. If he doesn’t catch the ball well next year, he’ll still get invited to some team’s camp because of his size and speed.

Hill is a mystery.
Hill can look like a pro prospect on some catches and look like a water boy on some misses. I hope he catches many passes for Tech next season.

Uzzi should have done what I did and taken 5 years to graduate. Then he’d have his last year of eligibility as an undergrad. Of course back then I wasn’t worried about my football career or the NFL draft. :^)

UGA’s Tavarres King and Mike Bennett and Malcom MItchell and Chris Conly are better than Hill. End of story and all but King is a FROSH or Red Shirt Frosh. Orson Charles is superior also and fankly, we will see it in 2012 ………………….Marvleous Marlon Brown is far superior and will actually be drafted much higer than Hill.
Next year if Tech’s guys do bolt, they will in 2012 HAVE no one.

Hill has the raw materials to be in the NFL—the emphasis on the word “raw”. If it’s all about money, then the ROI analysis is if staying another year with the potential to having a strong and consistent performance would significantly increase his draft position and thus entitle him to a higher base salary and signing bonus to compensate for another year of No Pay at the college level. I think both Uzzi and Hill would be 3rd round picks at best—worst being undrafted. A good year by each would probably move both of them up a round—maybe a round and a half—potentially late 1st round best case to 5th or 6th round worst case. Don’t know the sliding scale for NFL rookies, but that would be the basic monetary analysis of it.

Here are more names and they are underclassmen: The UGA receivers you mentioned are NOT better than Hill. They have more catches because UGA obviously passes a whole lot more often. Marlon Brown and Hill graduated the same year. This year Brown caught 14 passes for 228 yards. Hill averaged twice as many yards per catch than any of the receivers you mentioned. Reference the rating I posted HILL is ranked # 10. I didn’t see any of the UGA receivers.
Don’t remain sour because Hill spurned UGA for Tech. If you posess true football knowledge you know that your statement reaks with mendacity. Hill led the NATION IN YARDS PER CATCH. None of the UGA receivers had as many receiving yards as Hill.

“Well, um, my talent well is running dry for CPJ” and he is nearing the END of his era. At GT, over the last 45 years and counting Dodd’s last season, GT has averaged a new football coah about every 4.4 years. This means that very likely CPJ will be gone this time next year. He is wrapping his 4th right now in El Paso. Duck !!! Zing go the AK 47 bullets.
CPJ is on the 2012 HOT SEAT. He needs desepratly to win that Sun Bowl thing. He has no titles, no bowl wins and is not recruiting well and probation and kids in trouble and beins suspended ………………….. GT has major issue with their program as designed by CPJ.
Next year, Mark Richt will be enjoying a fat new contract with some of the best assistants in the biz and another DREAM TEAM and WINNING THE EAST AGAIN AND THE SEC C CG and a shot at the MNC in 2012 and beyond as a comparison.
NO, CPJ is in Deep T at Georgia Tech and he knows it. That program is very unstable.
The TECH FUND BOYS are not happy.

To Chan: CPJ is not going anywhere anytime soon unless he chooses. Tech, for whatever reason, simply does not fire coach’s over the last 30 years unless your name is Chan Gailey ( loose 6 in a row to UGA) or Bill Lewis (goes without saying).

With the Belichik innovation of slot formation TEs running rampant through safety coverage, maybe Hill could gain 20 pounds and be a slot TE in the NFL. LBs and safeties would struggle to cover him and his blocking may be good enough downfield.

Both Hill and Uzzi have what it takes to play in the NFL. I don’t think either of them will be playing football at Tech next year. I think Hill has the most to gain by staying in school, If he stays, I believe his stock would rise significantly. But for his stock to rise, he’ll NEED TO CATCH THE BALL WHEN IT’S THROWN TO HIM!!!! I would love to know exactly how many passes he’s dropped this year. I bet he leads the nation in that category!

Do any of you all out in cyber space know what GT linemen Mike Mooney and Jim Lavin and I did to a itty, bitty gal over at the now gone pizza parlor next door to the now gone Tech Motel on N Avenue at I-85 at the briidge back in the 90s? Well, um, the reason that i ask is that it was about the same time as the Jan Kemp thing at UGA and well, um we know that thing is like that ( Kemp LOST in the appellate court circuit) staying around.
Right? Ask any T graduate over the age of say 45, and they will recall my endeavors in that pizza parlor and if you are Tech man ( grad) you will be really proud.

Jan Kemp did not lose on apeal. The amount rewarded was reduced, but she was only looking to get her position back after being railroaded by the UGA administration. The jury awarded the sum. All UGA fans can take pride in hounding the woman to depression. Don’t let reading and writing get in the way of winning at all cost.

I might as well let you know what the prognosis is for Tech football. It is nothing but bust…until PJ is fired. Any Tech team that cannot copy other successful teams is a bust, and that is how Tech is. No team will win with a triple option offense wreckbone offense. Their QB must line up in their backfields to avoid rushes like successful teams do within their shotguns. Tech won’t do that under PJ. Also, Tech’s uni art is always lousy. If you want an actual team to watch, I don’t know where one is. I dropped out of following football as a genuine thing to do after wising up to what was going wrong with Tech year after year, graduating from there in ‘73.

Yes, we covered Jan Kemp but why did no probation result for UGA on the heels of that scandal??? It was only about money. NCAA did not even look into that matter. See?? IT IS ALL that Techers have to soften the reality of being owned all time by UGA. With Richt being “the worst UGA coach in history” and the fact that UGA in the last three years has been either “lousy” to decent this year ………………..TECH IS STILL OWNED by UGA.
The Ross era GT linemen did work over that little girl and a Atl cop and her boyfriend and she ended up having major re con face surgery ………………….due to the pummeling that these big guys gave her. Jan Kemp? So what? NOTHING resulted from that.
Georgia TECH also paid out huge sums of $$$ money to MDs and lawyers and in fact, might still be paying that girl and her boyfriend. We know nothing came from the Jan Kemp trial! That’s the whole point! UGA is still nothing but a football mill for the NFL! But, if the player does not make it to the NFL “maybe they can work at the post office instead of as a trashman.”
The worst part is UGA (with all those 5 star players) does not win NC(MNC).
As for the pizza parlor incident. Sounds like you were there and did nothing!
I would not call US service members illegal, but that’s just me. To each their own. I’m proud to be an American, sounds like you have issues with that. I’ve always said if you don’t like the USA go somewhere you will be happy. The sooner the better.
Fox Sports News and their 2011 bowl ratings

The Sun Bowl is ranked by Fox Sports News at # 27th out of 35 bowls.
The OUTBACK BOWL is ranked # 5 according to this organization.
This means that in Richt’s 11 year era, UGA has done up 3 Sugar Bowl games, 2 Capital One Bowl games and this Outback Bowl, plus a about three or four minor or 5 bowls like Chic Fil A and Weedeater, where Tech was last year. Ths SUN IS ANOTHER VERY MINOR BOWL. There is just no respect for GT and this is why they are in this pathetic bowl venue. They cannot win one either.
My point? The Sugar, the Capital One and the Outback are New Years Day type of MAJOR BOWLS and so Richt has taken UGA to about 6 in this period. Fabulous stat.
GT in this era? One Urange Bowl and frankly, their last MAJOR was in 1967, another Urange Bowl and BOTH LOSSES.
