Tech’s Will Jackson on bowl practice

Greetings-

Sorry for the delay. I have been down for the count with some sort of bug. Just a few notes from an interview with guard Will Jackson.

1. After a week break, Jackson was eager to get back to practice, to start preparing for Utah and ending Tech’s six-game bowl losing streak.

“It’s kind of a known fact that Georgia Tech’s lost ‘X’ number of bowl games in a row,” he said. “The Orange Bowl my first year and last year losing to Air Force, both of those were pretty embarrassing. You work three weeks, put a lot of time and effort into it and you go down and get beat, it’s not a lot of fun.”

2. Jackson said that run and pass blocking technique got a little sloppy towards the end of the season, which is why the line is trying to polish it up early on in bowl practice.

3. Jackson gave a nod to a few younger linemen, specifically Shaq Mason, Trey Braun and Errin Joe. Of Mason, he said that “I think he’s going to be a phenomenal player.”

Jackson also mentioned a member of the scout-team defense that I imagine many of you have never heard of – Xavier Lewis. Lewis transferred from Savannah State and I believe has two years of eligibility remaining. He’s a walk-on.
“He plays hard,” Jackson said of Lewis. “That’s the big thing. Sometimes those guys on the scout team, they get a little discouraged, they’ll go half-speed, not really care, but he’s going full-go every time. Whether it’s trying to give us a look or to prove himself, he definitely makes an impression.”

4. Jackson has a great aunt who lives in El Paso, who he said has lived there her whole life. She married his grandfather’s brother.

“So, kind of a weird connection,” he said. “Still family nonetheless.”

Thanks for reading.

High Tech, I guess according to what the mutts always post on here because Tech’s mottos is THWG, then both Army and Navy must be obsessed with the other team. Helluvan obsession, though, huh? LOL

And yes, I guess that’s what I would be saying about stupid. The only way to fix it is to get an education, but the mutts have shown time and again that they aren’t interested in education.

High Tech, did you decide to go to El Paso? I think I remember you saying earlier this week that you were planning on going. Did you finalize those plans? If so, where are you staying?

Don’t cry fellows. Maybe Tech will win the bowl game after only seven years instead of 10.

No definite plans yet, Supersize. Still in the planning stages. Would very much like to go.

High Tech, there are 2 others on here besides myself who are going, and we are all planning on getting together at least for dinner while there, and at the game too. Love for you to join us. If there’s anything I can do to help you with your plans, email me at supersizeorder@yahoo.com. That’s only a temporary email address to weed out the trolls, so if you do email me, give me some kind of “proof” that you are legit.

Thanks for the invitation, Supersize. I’ll let you know.

If I go, I know several of us will be at the Mesa Street Grill at 10 am on Saturday the 31st. A special Georgia Tech brunch will be served and a cash bar will be available.

It’s a short walk to the stadium from there.

Just finished watching the Heisman award ceremony. RGIII seems like an interesting and outstanding young man. I wonder what he could have done in GT’s offense. I think it could have been wide open.

My comment is awaiting moderation. Apparently the words c lassy and r estaurant are considered questionable. I received an e-mail the other day about it. I posted a link to the r estaurant and a link to the fan guide for you.

1 4 GT…It’s a 0.7 mile walk from the Mesa Street Grill to Sun Bowl Stadium according to Google Maps. It looks to be 2-1/3 to 3 blocks at the most as you could probably walk north on Hawthorne St. and cut across the parking lot.

1 4 GT…Mesa Street Grill – 2525 North Mesa Street, El Paso, TX

Get directions to Sun Bowl Stadium from their on Google Maps. You’ll see it’s not that far.

As painful as the rehab after hip replacement is, people I know who stick with the rehab end up much better off. They do not use a cane or walker.

Very true about the price of food. I usually expect to pay more if it looks pretty on the plate. Click on Mesa Street’s menu to see some of what they fix. Very nice.

By the way, anybody not going to El Paso should consider buying tickets and donating them to soldiers at Fort Bliss. Tech provides an option for doing that. It sells more tickets for Tech AND it gives some servicemen the opportunity to see a bowl game for free. I am going to buy 2 extras just for that.

Thanks Supersize. Yeah High Tech. I saw that. Looks like a good place that probably has a good local trade. I believe I saw where it opened in 1998. That,s pretty long lived in the food & beverage business, so they must be doing something right. My ex-wife and I went out quite a bit, no kids, back in the 70’s & early 80’s, and it was true then too. The prettier the food looked on the plate, the more it cost. Our favorite restaurant was the “ABBEY” in downtown Atlanta, an old church converted to a restaurant. The staff dressed as monks and nuns. We always had 5 wait staff. But it was delicious.

Well that one got thru–last 2 vanished into the cyber-world. Got your email Supersize. Abbey closed for many years. El Paso steakhouse does not take reservations ever. Open the 31st 4:00-9:00. Man I spoke with said a table for four should not be that long a wait but larger groups were another story. Look at their web site at the menu pics–you get plenty to eat. Hope High Tech decides to go.

Too bad the Abbey is closed. Sad they way many of the good places go away or go downhill. Aunt Fannie’s Cabin. Coach and Six. Is Ray’s on the River still in business?

I think Ray’s is still going, Ah, good memories. Pitty Pat’s Porch. Johnny Reb’s for Sunday dinner. Hey, nothing wrong with Cracker Barrel. The Sunday fried chicken breast is delish.

Coach and Six is closed too? WOW. I never ate there, but that was one of the first fancy restaurants I ever knew about when I was at Tech; I always dreamed of going there. But boy, I LOVED Aunt Fannie’s Cabin; that was some awesome eating. I never heard of Ray’s but there is a Ray’s Coastal Cafe in Augusta that serves Caribbean food; it’s pretty good. And I do enjoy me some good Cracker Barrel eating. I just wish they had real fried chicken, like Po Folk’s used to have. Everything else there is good though. When I was in school, there were a couple of all-you-can-eat catfish places, and a bunch of us Tech students would go there and PIG OUT!!!! That’s probably why they all closed. LOL
