Tech’s Will Jackson on bowl practice

Greetings-

Sorry for the delay. I have been down for the count with some sort of bug. Just a few notes from an interview with guard Will Jackson.

1. After a week break, Jackson was eager to get back to practice, to start preparing for Utah and ending Tech’s six-game bowl losing streak.

“It’s kind of a known fact that Georgia Tech’s lost ‘X’ number of bowl games in a row,” he said. “The Orange Bowl my first year and last year losing to Air Force, both of those were pretty embarrassing. You work three weeks, put a lot of time and effort into it and you go down and get beat, it’s not a lot of fun.”

2. Jackson said that run and pass blocking technique got a little sloppy towards the end of the season, which is why the line is trying to polish it up early on in bowl practice.

3. Jackson gave a nod to a few younger linemen, specifically Shaq Mason, Trey Braun and Errin Joe. Of Mason, he said that “I think he’s going to be a phenomenal player.”

Jackson also mentioned a member of the scout-team defense that I imagine many of you have never heard of – Xavier Lewis. Lewis transferred from Savannah State and I believe has two years of eligibility remaining. He’s a walk-on.
“He plays hard,” Jackson said of Lewis. “That’s the big thing. Sometimes those guys on the scout team, they get a little discouraged, they’ll go half-speed, not really care, but he’s going full-go every time. Whether it’s trying to give us a look or to prove himself, he definitely makes an impression.”

4. Jackson has a great aunt who lives in El Paso, who he said has lived there her whole life. She married his grandfather’s brother.

“So, kind of a weird connection,” he said. “Still family nonetheless.”

Thanks for reading.

Vad thanks for coming and I cannot wait to see you on the field! As a Tech grad I know it is tough. Stay the course. If football never pans out you will have a valuable piece of paper that will carry you for a lifetime!

Sure hope we can get a bowl win. I’m tired of hearing about the losing streak. Wish I could get to El Paso but I can’t go outside a day’s drive. Was really hoping for Nashville but oh well. You guys have fun, represent as Tech fans always do, and bring us back a win!

Oh, and THWG!

Vad is staying at GT. CPJ to Penn State….. That’s hilarious, Penn St. wouldn’t give this coach the time of day… Come on people…. We are stuck with this coach. Period!

unfortunately gt4ever, you’re right

CPJ’s goodwill from his 2008 win over UGA is rapidly coming to an end. If he doesn’t win this bowl game, find a passing element to this scheme next year, make some improvements on the defense/special teams, and beats UGA next year, then he is out. BDS will have even fewer season ticket holders next year.

They won’t let me post on UGA blogs cause they are still upset since I weaved my way up and down, left and right, and throught the UGA punt coverage team like melted butter, so I thought I would post here to shame the UGA trolls on here. UGA is the weakest team that we played all year. I believe I could score any time I wanted to against them.

Honey Badger, it sucks that there is a UGA blog for the game, but not one for Tech, and they won’t let you post on their blog. That should be absolute proof of what a homer paper the AJC is

With respect to CPJ to PSU rumors, I hope he is smarter than that. There are so many uncertainties with that program, it is hard to imagine them getting any experienced coach. They are going to be sorely disappointed at the number of people who turn them down. If Al Golden doesn’t want to go back, it is going to be a cold winter in Happy Valley.

Those are some good deals. The Travelodge that is the cheapest looks kind of rough. It’s more expensive but the Wyndham the fellow from El Paso recommended the other night looks nice. Travelocity’s ad for Mazatlan looks appealing. Somewhere warm.

Well he probably resides in Athens so I wouldn’t call it sending. In fact I am pretty sure he lives there. So it makes since for him to cover it. Ken said he was recovering from a bug so if he was going, he probably didn’t feel up to it. Just a guess.

Chad, with all due respect if both football teams were 0-11 going into the game, would they not send someone to cover it. They have basically three guys covering UGA football full-time and they can’t send a reporter to cover the one game where the top two state universities play basketball.

GT-UT, I hope this result is more about our improvement instead of the Dawgs basketball struggles. I saw a little bit of UGA’s game against UW I think it was and they looked pretty good there, so hopefully this is a positive statement for us.

Chad

December 7th, 2011
10:32 pm

Well it would either be schultz or bradley. And my guess is if one team was ranked, they would have sent someone. But seeing as they have both started poorly, they probably felt it wasn’t necessary. Also Bradley hasn’t posted since Sunday, so I think he’s on break. So it’s JS’s fault. Ha

I think what’s more telling is the fact there isn’t a link on the front page of the ajc claiming Jackets smother Dogs. Cause if uga had won, I can guarantee you there would be a front page link and score.
