Georgia Tech guard Omoregie Uzzi was named to the All-ACC first-team Monday for his role in a Yellow Jackets offense that led the ACC in rushing, total offense and scoring. The junior from Chamblee High was a second-team pick last season.
Inside linebacker Julian Burnett, whose 113 tackles were fifth in the ACC and 44 more than any teammate, was named to the second team. A junior from Westside-Macon High, Burnett also led Tech with 9.5 tackles for loss and earned his first selection.
Outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu and cornerback Rod Sweeting were named honorable mention. Attaochu was fourth in the ACC in sacks with six despite missing two games. Sweeting was credited with 12 passes defended, tied for fourth in the league, including three interceptions.

Strange how we led the ACC in rushing, total offense and scoring, and only had one offensive player

Does anyone thing David Cutcliff forgot how to coach when he let Ole Miss or Tennessee and went to Duke. No, he was and remains a good football coach. Problem is, he can’t recruit four and five star players at Duke. Maybe he doesn’t have enough “special admits” to upgrade his talent pool at Duke. Maybe the top rated players don’t want to go to a school that is lucky to have 15,000 show up on home coming. Who knows and who cares. Well, maybe Tech people should look at our situation and wonder: We are not getting the players to be competitive no matter how good a job CPJ is doing on the field. As far as Al Groh and the defense is concerned. Please will someone call 911.

We haven’t done anything wrong. You lost the game fair and square. Own up to it and handle it like a man Techie.
It begs the question what Techies hope to accomplish with all this sore loser academic talk. Are we supposed to spot you a couple of touchdowns every time we play you Techies? We hate you. Why would we do that? Is this pee wee league where you’re supposed to get points for trying? This is big boy football played by grown men Techies. If you can’t get it done on the field because of those management classes it is nobody’s problem but your own. Quit trying to make everyone feel sorry for you. If its such a problem play D-1aa ball. It’s that time of year again everyone. That’s right the annual parade of excuses on north avenue. “No good players are smart enough to come here. We make more money than Georgia grads. cpj is the smartest coach in footbal we just beat ourselves”.
and the list is endless because so are the number of losses. The truth is tech jocks all major in sprts management and still can’t earn a degree. All the money tech grads make is spent in their home country after they leave the US and tech is guilty of funding the taliban more than most terrorists and cpj is a loudmouth classless joke that has manged to tuen tech into a cheap shot thug loaded program that lies and cheats and still can’t win.
It’s my favorite time of the year.

Tech will be invited to either the Sun Bow in very dangerous El Paso, Texas or the fabulous John Belk Bowl in Charlotte,NC.
Two major bowl bids for GT since about 1956. The 1967 Orange Bowl and the 2009 Orange Bowl. Folks ……………….over 55 years this is GT’s MAJOR BOWL HISTORY.
CPJ is a 7-5 kind of solid, good football coach but neither he nor his schemes will propel GT football beyond a Sun Bowl or Belk Bowl year in and year out. THIS reality IS TECH FOOTBALL.

I’m sure your set of friends is very representative of the entire UGA alumni population. UGA is a decent state school but will never be taken seriously until they become one of the elite members of the AAU. Heck – our joke major, Management, is ranked higher than UGA’s prized Terry College of Business, know as UGA’s hardest major.
The ones that move back to another country do that because that is where their family lives. Dumbass.
UGA grads are generally from GA and wind up stuck there their entire lives. GT grads actually have the capacity to move out of state, especially considering Atlanta is not an engineering hub like cities in TX or CA.

As I go through my years at Georgia Tech I have to say:

3. Tech alumni and UGA alumni FOR THE MOST PART are totally different:
One could really care less about football whereas the other group lives and dies for football (pathetic really)

That is not the issue. The University of Georgia is a very good state university (I like to point out with pride that it is the oldest state university in the USA), but it does have some programs that are not as demanding as Tech’s “easiest” one. As does Duke, Stanford, etc., etc. etc. I remember when we played Duke back in Al Ciraldo’s days when he would list the players who were recruited to Tech, but could not get in. But they got into Duke. That is not to say that Duke is not a great university, of course it is. But it has some programs that are softer than any of Tech’s. Now if you don’t want to believe this, that is your right. But the fact is that Tech does have more difficult restrictions than almost any other school, with the possible exception of the military academies, and that is what they have to deal with.

When GT won their MNC in 1989-90, that squad was littered with JUCOs and also when GT was Co-ACC Champs under GOL they had plenty of JUCOs on that squad also.
When Bobby Cremins was Head B-Ball coach Yvon Joseph (the Haitian sensation according to Al Ciraldo) was a JUCO thatwent on to get his degree in Mechanical engineering.
Not all JUCOs are dummies, and if GT wants help from the JUCO ranks they need to stop being LAZY and look a lot harder.
Aaron Rodgers of the Super Bowl champ Green Bay Packers was a JUCO and went on to Cal-Berkley to finish his College career, in some cases a SA goes the JUCO route to give him more time to develop, but in the SMUG, elitist, ICEhole mind of the typical GT-Fan all JUCOs are eitehr dummies or criminals.
With that outlook on things I can see why GT can no longer find any help from the JUCO ranks.
Once again, the typical putz of a GT fan plays the Academics-Card and then plays it incorrectly.

Hey look I’m the first to admit that UGA has our number on the gridiron and beat us as solidly as we’ve been beaten all year. But what I want to know is who started this “we run this state” nonsense. Since when does winning an annual football game have anything to do with running a state? This is quite possibly the worst trash talk in all of sports. I guess I just have a hard time identifying with people who measure their self worth based on how well 18 to 23 year olds play a game on Saturdays during the fall.
So go ahead and put on that black hat, that red sweater, and those silver britches. Paint that G on your cheek and settle down into that custom made UGA rocking chair, and feel good that the team you support won again. Just do everyone a favor and act like you’re been there before. And don’t you worry the team I support will be back next year, and the year after that, and the year after that…
Finally, enough with this tacit association of football to academics. UGA is a good school. GT is one of the top universities in the world and is consistently ranked among the top 4 engineering schools in the country. Of these top institutes GT is the only school to have all of it’s engineering degree’s rated in the top ten. This conversation is over.

Well, when they make fun of a person’s look, or in another blog, a Tech’s cheerleader. That shows little class. We are who we are and we have little control over how we look. But to attack at that level seems popular with some. And having said that, I would say the same thing about the idiot who blogged something deragatory about the late Larry Munson. Seems like we ought to keep it at a higher level.

yeller bug,
You are correct that UNC opened before UGA even though UGA was chartered first. However, although both claim to be the oldest state school an argument could be made that that claim belongs to neither of them – William and Mary is a public school that was founded in 1693 – almost 100 years before either of them.

There are 10x as many “joke” classes at UGA than Tech. I mean “History of Rock n Roll”? Tech never had an elective like that, more like the “History of Differential Equations” at Tech.

I’m not trying to play the “academics” card. I just get tired of UGA fans acting like UGA is anywhere near GA Tech in academics and majors. There is a huge difference between the schools when it comes to these issues. Lucky for UGA the Hope Scholarship came around and has made UGA borderline respectable in the academic realm.
You can go to just about any other college in GA and major in the same courses that are offered at UGA, but there are a very select few that offer similar majors to Tech.

I see the above comment about “chartered”. That jogged my memory. Georgie is the oldest state “chartered” school in the nation, but charter date likely is not the same as date of opening “Operation”. There is a 2 story building of maybe 2000 sq ft about 4 miles from my home in what is called Rockville Community outside Eatonton, Ga that has an historical sign in front yard that states it is the 1st/oldest college in Georgia.

Now that I’ve had a few days to recover, I’d like to congadulate the UGA football team on their victory. They were clearly the superior football team on Saturday. I’m reminded of a column Mark Bradley did after the loss to Virginia Tech. Bigger, stronger, faster. You can help some of those things with coaching, but if you don’t compete in recruiting, you’re not going to compete regularly on the field. I know that GT has some recruiting challenges that UGA doesn’t, but that’s not a good enough reason not to compete. We really need to expand our reach and compete for EVERY 4 and 5 star athelete who’s capabale of passing the workload at GT. Until we get more of the bigger, stronger, faster atheletes, we’re going to have more Saturdays like the last one.

If that is so why does Ga Tech have the lowest graduation rates for football players in the ACC.
This is classic Tech. After they lose they go straight into the “we are smarter and better so football doesn’t matter really anyway” mode.
Again Tech’s academics suck. They are terrible.
Look at a school like Stanford. Not there is an institution that excels both on the field and off.
Graduation rates for Stanford are around 96 percent. Tech’s are under 50 percent.
Again Tech really isn’t anything special academically.

AGTFan53. You are so right about recruiting. GT can compete witrh all other schools and get our share of the highly ranked athletes. Other schools with stringent admittance standards get them without lowering their standards to the bottom. The coaches can get a few exemptions if necessary, up to a point. Unfortunately, from what I have read, our coach has a big dislike of recruiting–part of his personality perhaps.

CPJ is a terrible HC, what he is, is an overpaid glorified OC with a gimmicky triple-SLOPtion Offense.

DAWGFAN……………sober up on this FACT. The University System of Georgia enrolls more than 310,000 students — an increase of more than 100,000 in the past decade. Behind that rapid growth lies a problem. Less than 60 percent of students graduate within six years. Graduation rates are determined by looking at how many students start in one fall and graduate within six years. Georgia’s most recent six-year data reflect students who started in fall 2003 and graduated by summer 2009. The national average is about 60 percent. College presidents submitted plans to improve these rates by about 1 percentage point a year for each of the next three years.
College … Graduation rate
University of Georgia … 82.4
Georgia Tech … 81.3

You like the triple option, but name a team that has really won anything in the last 20 years running the triple option exclusively. There are none. I guess CPJ is just smarter than all other coaches at BCS schools since he is the ONLY one who runs this high school offense.

cloud, the triple option is actually just one play in the offense. I am for a little more variety, but I feel like we always have a chance in the games we play. Paul Johnson can’t make the receivers catch the ball. There were one or two clutch games with VA Tech where GT could have had some 1st downs had the receivers caught the ball. PJ also didn’t throw back to back interceptions to GA’s defense.

I respect what you are saying and you sound pretty reasonable. I would just like to see the offense a little more balanced instead of only throwing the ball in desperation or on 3rd and long (I know there are exceptions). The fact is the triple option is what and all he runs. When it is stopped, he cannot line up 4 wide receivers and the QB in the shot gun. They are limited to the one formation and they don’t have an option (no pun intended) when the run is shut down.

I disagree about the triple option being all that he runs. There were several speed option & A-back option (off the A gap in the o-line) plays. Also not counting the pitch and toss sweeps. The A-back option plays were run with a fair degree of success against GA’s d-line and linebackers. Wonder what happened with the power option with the b-back, I don’t remember seeing that one too many times this year.
As for passing, I want to say do it more, but when Washington threw 2 back to back, it makes it hard to want more passing. Hoping synjyn provides some spark going into the bowl game and see what he can do.

Here’s the facts. CPJ has a great offense mind and as one of our sportswriters commented. “Paul Johnson could take the first baptist choir, coach them in the triple offense and have a pretty good offensive team”. His Achilles heel is and always has been his ability to recruit defensive talent. Until he recruits some big defensive talent, he will always be chasing a dream. Al Grogh is not the answer to this teams problem. Paul Johnson needs to step up to the big boys league and start building a defense unit that complements the offense. Recruit some big boys and for goodness sake get a defensive co coordinator that will share the same passion that you have for your offense.

He’s lying tampa dawg, our/GT’s OLs set up a Twitter account and called themselves the “GoonSquad” and TALKED TRASH while they were beating up on cupcakes, and then when they played real teams and got their butts handed to them ……………..
Then they turned into BABIES, when they got called on the carpet with no more than 3-5 tweets and Tweets are less than 140 characters, so there’s no way that calling them on the carpet for trash talking could rise to the level of harassment.
If you talk trash on twitter and put it out there for the GENERAL PUBLIC to read someone’s gonna call you on the carpet.
CPJ wants no accountability for his screwups ,and now the crappy players he recruits want no accountability for their trash talking.

It does matter. Under 18 is a minor and that is easily a felony and if someone does it to my kid when he gets older, that person gets a personal visit. But over 18, they are considered adults. If they don’t like their twitter replies, they need to make them private and add followers on a case by case basis.

Sure as a 17 year old, the law SHOULD have stepped in or Vad’s parents should have. It’s a crime and if I were his dad, again, a personal visit would have been made. In fact, I can’t believe that something wasn’t actually done if it was that out of control. Now, posting a youtube high school highlight video on here, maybe I am not following on that one. Not sure what the big deal is there. If it’s to “make fun of him” well, tell Vad to grow a pair because kids have to deal with MUCH worse than that every day in school.

Sorry Tampa dawg they are flat out liars!
Vad made comments about GT’s offense during Gt’s Bowl Game with Air Force Bowl game, I simply asked him a few FOOTBALL ONLY related questions, and then when the questions got “too tough” , then Vad went Wussy and claimed that my 8-10 tweets were “harassment”, I never tweeted him again and wished him luck.
Real harassment is what they did to I. Crowell over on stingtalk, they took pictures off of his Facebook page (I don’t do facebook BTW) that included FRIENDS & RELATIVES that don’t play for uga and called them thugs and other names that bordered on **cism and then posted them all over the GT-themed message boards.
The friends & relatives of I. Crowell never asked that their photos be stolen by GT Fans and placed all over another website and than have derogatory/*acist comments added to those pics.
I asked FB questions to a loud-mouthed QB that didn’t like the tough questions and then wanted to take his “ball & go home”.
Now who are the REAL harassers?
GT putzes have real short memories of all the crap that they do.

I understand that and agree that it takes some class to do that. I would even go so far as to say that if his parents stepped in to make that statement, it still took class to leave it at that. All I was saying is if there is some big deal made about posting a video from high school football highlights with some stuff said about it, then that is FAR from the worst thing that happens to kids nowadays.
Now, about the stingertalk website. I saw those posts (I don’t post on there personally) and I saw some disparaging posts about the passing Larry Munson. I don’t know about anyone else, but I was disappointed in the effort our basketball team put forward last night. I know it is early, but I thought Northwestern would be a good test of our progress, since they are very similar to the team they had last year. What I saw was a team still with too many turnovers and very sloppy defense-I could not count the number of times NU scored on an easy backdoor cut. It is not like that was a surprise, it is exactly the same thing they did last year. Purportedly, defense is what CBG has been spending most of the time on-competing every night, etc. but so far the lessons are not taking. Our offense was stagnant all night, consisting primarily of throwing the ball around the perimeter, very little attempt to get it inside. At last year’s game I thought we were more athletic than NU, but did not have any height inside. This year, other than Morris, I did not see any athleticism and we still are small inside. Last year we lost by 20 on NU’s home court and this year by 16 at home. I am having trouble seeing the progress, can someone help me out?
PS. Why is there not more coverage of the basketball team. Without the Hawks, I would have thought the AJC would devote a little more time.

Don’t forget, WnE also stalked Synjyn Days and his mother. Something about playing safety instead of quarterback
________________________
You are a FLAT OUT LIAR one again!
Days’ mother was aonce an active & VOLUNTARY participant of the old bbuzzoff. com (affectionately called pputzoff. com).
I was also member of that website, me and his mother had SEVERAL CORDIAL CONVERSATIONS on that message board.
In one of those conversations, I mentioned that I had looked at her son’s HS Film and that i thought that he was NOT college QB material, but that he wasa great athlete and should play safety.
I even compared him to former GT safety Morgan Burnett in that I thought that if he played Safety FOR GT, that he could start early in his Career and maybe have a chance to go to the NFL early JUST LIKE Burnett.
That’s not stalking when you tell someone that their son could go to the NFL at Safety rather than QB after just 3-yrs. of College ball.
Fast-forward to 2 years later, Synjin cannot beat out Tevin, his throwing is shaky, ball-security is shaky, and on Defense I. Johnson is as soft as friggin Charmin, in other words my assessment was spot-on and here we have Synjin having wasted 2 yrs. AT QB and now those same folks that criticized me for being honest and straight with his mom want Synjin MOVED TO A-BACK to get him on the filed so that Vad can start OVER HIM.
There was never any harsh words or posts between me & Synjin’s mom, she’s a very nice lady and I simply shared my opinion that it is bette rto get to the NFL as a SAFETY in the 2nd -3rd round that it is to fuel your ego at the ages of 18-22 and play QB in college, I simply told her that a lot of kids coming out of HS want to play QB for egotistical reasons rather than playing what position will get them to the NFL.
The Message board ERUPTED and made more falsely NEGATIVE comments about me because they felt I was potentially harming CPJ’s chance to make “his system” work on this level, at the time they all thought Synjin was “the next coming of Tracey Ham” and CPJ’s QB of the future, NONE of them gave a DAMN about Synjin, his mother or Synjin’s future NFL Prospects, my comments were only focused on Synjin’s future NFL prospects, not whether or not CPJ finds his QB of the future.
It seems that a “certain segment” GT fanbase hates it when Former GT players realize their dreams and make it to the NFL, they would rather see guys waste their eligibility playing positions that have no future in FB to satisfy the HC AT THE EXPENSE OF THE PLAYERS that almost always come from poor or working-class backgrounds.
Once again more LIES from the GT fans!
I challenge anyone to find the old posts from that old website were I had comments back and forth with his mother (all conversation were very cordial) about what I thought his best position would be for him making it to the NFL, there were no harsh words and I wanted her son to come to GT to play SAFETY, his best position to get to the NFL.
Where is the accountability for all the LIARS among the GT fanbase and among the major Gt-themed message boards?
I have no reason to lie about anything because I have done nothing that is nefarious, telling someone that your son can make it to the NFL at Safety and that my opinion is based on my analysis of his HS Film, IS NOT STALKING, it is merely talking FB, and offering an opinion.
Lies like this just show the world how weasely & fragile the GT fanbase is, when your fanbase is made up of former BAND-GEEKS that never played any sports whatsoever in their entire life, then putzes like that view EVERYTHING as “some sort of attack” since they never played any sports and don’t know what “normal & customary” for discussing that particular sport.

Sorry High Tech, but it is NORMAL & CUSTOMARY to DISCUSS on a message board where & what position a potential Recruit should play.
By calling my opinions “telling what’s best for her son by an internet psychopath”, all you are proving is that you’ve NEVER played any organized sports in your life, AND that you’re probably a wussified band geek, that gets all his “sports knowledge” from homers like Wes Durham and other “pro-GT one-sided Sports talk guys”.
There’s nothing out of bounds by discussing what position a HS Recruit projects to to give him the best chance of making the NFL; to find fault in that only shows how mentally FRAGILE & WUSSIFIED the majority of GT fans are.

At this level of CFB in BCS-Conferences, the education is a “wash”.
A BS in Bus. Admin from GT is pretty much the same as one from Vandy, Texas, USCw, UNC, UVa, Michigan, Florida, uga, ND, Stanford, Illinois, Northwestern, UCLA, U-Dub(Wash.), and many other Colleges.
Since the education is a virtual dead-heat, elite Recruits need to find the school that will get them to the NFL, they can a very good Bus Admin degree from a number of colleges.

WnE, here’s something you would do good to read:
Football is one of our great American games. It is the duty and responsibility of each of us to see that it is kept in its proper perspective, and that it is protected. We should see that it is used to attain the objectives that mean so much to our way of life.
We feel that the spectator can be most influential and instrumental in helping to achieve these objectives, if he will develop the right attitudes. May we suggest a few?
First, and foremost among these attitudes that must be developed, is the realization that in football there must be a winner and a loser (excepting the occasional tie). The fan who recognizes this principle gets a great deal more enjoyment from the game than one who becomes irritated, aggravated, and rambunctious when “his” team loses. We would never minimize the importance of winning, but it is very unfair to the coach, the player, and the school when the fan forgets it is impossible to “repudiate the law of mathematics”–i.e., there must be a winner and a loser.
It is important that each of us develop the art of appreciating great plays made by the opposition. We should always give our opponents credit, rather than criticize our team when the opposition makes a great play. We believe perfection in the execution of a great play in football is to be admired and appreciated, just as we appreciate and admire the work of a great artist in any field.
The spectator should remember the football players are just human beings. They perform at times under great pressure, and they, as all other earthly inhabitants, are likely to make mistakes. It behooves all of us to remember, “To err is human, to forgive, divine.”
Finally, we should always keep uppermost in mind that football, with all its glamour, glitter, thrills and chills, plus everything that makes it great, has one thing more important than all of these combined–that is, the boy who plays it.”

I think if everyone would just ignore WnE and quit responding to him; he would just go away. You are giving him exactly what he wants…attention.

Ken probably quit the GT blogs and asked the AJC for another team assignment. I’m speculating here but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did.
Ken’s wonderful, objective and in-depth reporting on GT has consistently been swallowed up by a rash of sick, demented and hateful commentary within this comment section.
Congratulations everyone … you’ve turned this AJC blog into a trash pile, not even worthy of a reasonable and mature person’s attention anymore.
And Ken: Thank You for a wonderful season of great GT sports journalism.

Ken,
I don’t consider myself a prude, but I’d support you in banishing the bloggers who ruin this site for the rest of us. There is no football discussion — it is all vengeful, aggressive attacks. What we are getting today is a far cry from what the AJC had in mind when this blog was created.. Please do the needful!
