Greetings-
We’re finally here.
A few thoughts and notes, links and a belatedly posted video.
1. It’s a small sample size, but Georgia Tech is 8-1 when it has broken four or more plays of 20 yards or more, 0-2 when it hasn’t. It speaks to the benefit of the plays themselves, but perhaps more to the execution level of the offense on that given day that enabled that many plays to break, as well as the opponent’s general inability to stop Tech. (The one loss was Virginia Tech, when the Jackets had six plays of 20 yards or more.) Tech had three against Virginia and none against Miami.
2. In the past two Tech-Georgia games, the Bulldogs have converted six Tech turnovers into 31 points. Tech has turned three Georgia turnovers into no points. In 2008, Tech cashed in Georgia’s two turnovers for 13 points, while Georgia did nothing with Tech’s only turnover.
3. A Larry Munson-Al Ciraldo story, as told by Ciraldo’s son Al Jr.: The day of the 1985 Tech-Georgia game, the legendary Tech play-by-play man was planning a pretty adventurous doubleheader. He was going to call a much-hyped Tech basketball game – against Michigan in the Tip-Off Classic in Springfield, Mass. – in the afternoon and then fly back to Atlanta for the Tech-Georgia football game at night.
Munson’s pessimism was evidently not limited to Georgia football.
When Ciraldo told his good friend and colleague of his plan, Ciraldo Jr. said this week, Munson replied, “Both! You gotta be nuts. What if the flight’s delayed? What if there’s rain? You’ll never make it!”
Ciraldo assured him he had things covered. Delta CEO Ron Allen, a Tech grad, would ensure Ciraldo would make his flight. Munson fretted that traffic from the airport might trap Ciraldo. Ciraldo assured him again that Georgia State Patrol Col. Hugh Hardison was also a Tech grad and would give him a police escort to the game.
Munson’s reply: “You better hope the weatherman’s a Tech grad!”
Ciraldo’s double went off without a hitch.
“They had a really good relationship,” said Ciraldo Jr., a commercial real-estate broker who graduated from Tech, lives in East Cobb and helps spot for Wes Durham on game days. “They shared a lot of stories.”
4. Watch for counter plays. The speed of Georgia’s defense may make the Bulldogs vulnerable to over-pursuit.
5. Video interview with CineSport’s Noah Coslov, alongside my colleague Chip Towers.

Funny how people want to bring up how Georgia’s defense isn’t that good when they haven’t played offensive powerhouses, but what powerhouse has Alabama played? Penn State? LSU? North Texas? Don’t think so. We’ve earned our ranking. Teams don’t just lay down. This is still the SEC and you gotta play. I think our defense is legit. Everybody else is just haters.

LSU is NOT an offensive powerhouse. They’re horrible on offense.

Please get rid of Al Groh. He can’t stand the thought of giving up a big play, so he gives up lots of short touchdowns. Every time he pressured Murray, good things happened. Go figure.

PJ is not the problem. He looks at Groh like he wants to punch him during the game. That would be our highlight.

This game was lost before it started. Corso and Hirbstreet picked us to win. If that didn’t do it then the coin flip did us in for sure. You know we’re in trouble when we don’t get the ball at the start of the 2nd half. Ok if that didn’t do it then it our great coaches play calling that did it. If it wasn’t that then it was our soft pass defense, or our soft pass rush. What else could it be, hmm…maybe Tevin shoulda been yanked 6 wk ago like I was calling for. Hey look we finally score in the 2nd half. Is there a prayer left? No.

Tech only rushed for 244 yards. That’s shutting them down. They usually run for 400 to even 600. But not today. Our defense played great. (As always). Who we gotta beat to prove we’re a great team?

That was one the rare brilliant comments Ive heard from a Tech fan. Yes you should have gone after Rich Rod. That would have been a big move in the positive direction for Tech
