Georgia 31, Georgia Tech 17

Three quick thoughts.

1. Missed opportunities in the first half. The first play, not scoring a touchdown after reaching the Georgia 2-yard line, the timeout on the missed field goal. I’m hardly convinced it would have made a difference, but it reduced the Jackets’ margin considerably. The third quarter extinguished it completely.

2. The Tech pass defense didn’t cut it. Most times, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray had time to throw and open targets to throw to. Sub-par all the way around.

3. Tech proved again it can run the ball. Against the No. 2 run defense, the Jackets cleared 225 yards. However, it wasn’t nearly, nearly enough. The Jackets needed some sort of big play or three – a blocked punt, a long punt return, an interception taken back for a touchdown, an 80-yard touchdown run – and couldn’t summon it.

What do you think?

RainbowJacket – I sort of agree with you. I thought that Tech’s chances to win would rest with Tech not making any mistakes and Georgia making a few. Had Tech’s first pass been thrown to Hill and a completion the complexion of the game would have changed. Had Georgia not received a second chance at the field goal our mood at halftime would have been better. Had Georgia’s number 25 been called for the obvious holding penalty on the second half kickoff the field would have been much longer for Georgia.

Oh well, UGA played well and we did not. UGA won again and we did not. Good luck to Georgia against LSU, I hope UGA beats LSU worse than LSU beat us in the Chik-fil-A bowl a few years ago.

We can still win the bowl game and end that succession of losses.

I will not say “wait ’til next year”, though.

It just sucks so bad for Tech because UGA will be even better next year and you have to play in Athens. Yet another loss to UGA. Sucks for y’all!

Georgia was Gorilla big, Gorilla strong, and Gorilla fast. You never stood a chance.

I told you fellers that your defense would cost you at least three games this year. I wish to apologize for my error. Four games. And your offense was culpable too.

Great game and hats off to CMR for not piling up more points in the 4th quarter when UGA obviously could have. Just imagine if CMR was replaced by Saban, Miles or even Petrino during the 4th quarter; the score would have been something like 48-17. CMR showed a lot of class by just keeping the ball on the ground and chewing up the clock. Just hope that UGA keeps it close with LSU next week but not entertaining the delusion that it will pan out that way. LSU will not allow Murray that much time to find open receivers so UGA must plan for that. Final thought – GT has nothing to be ashamed of as they played a hard, clean game.

Amazing video of a high school senior from Columbia TN who kicks the ball dead straight 75-80 yards in the air. He was successful on 54 of 54 attempts this season….100%. Now he needs a college team. Wants to go to Georgia Tech! Please leave a Yellow Jackets comment on his video!!!

I wonder if CPJ will now acknowledge the fact that the SEC is a much tougher conference than the ACC. He said let’s wait and see until the games were played on Saturday(which I agreed with him). SEC was 3-1 against the ACC. And truth be told, the 3 wins weren’t even close. Vandy killed Wake, SC handed it to Clemson, and well, we know what happended at Bobby Dodd..

Something tells me he won’t say a thing about it though. We’ll see you at Ole Miss next year Coach Johnson. Bring the option to the SEC, you’ll get better football talent to run it with.

Time to stop playing this game. It means nothing to either team. To Georgia, its just another game on their schedule. To us, we don’t care to keep up with them in any way, stadium, facilities, fan base, coaching, and most importantly players. After a while, when their lowest rated recruit is a 3 star and our highest rated is 3 star, the math is in their favor.

Funny, I was leaving the fame on North Ave with my 3 kids and a current GT student was yelling out of his dorm room “F” Georgia. The response from a UGA student in front of me was to yell back “Loser” to the GT student. I guess you didn’t leave using North Avenue on Saturday. It has been my experience that GT fans are usually the ones hurling insults and cuss words.
Also, what company do you own?

We don’t care to keep up with them in any way. Don’t worry, you are not keeping up with UGA in anyway. What engineering degree did Reggie Ball graduate with? I noticed at the game, the majors were not put on the big screen for your football players.
The myth is all GT students have to take Calculus. What about students in your business school and philosphy school. GT has the same opportunity to recruit the same athletes as UGA. The reason you don’t is your stadium is small and you have no tradition in modern times.

Skitty, Fritty, I apologize on the behalf of Tech fans for that; Tech students have always been known for their crudity. I plead guilty to having been the same way when I was in school. Part of that is because the load at Tech can be so overwhelming at times, and some kind of “escape” is necessary. That still doesn’t excuse it, and obviously I have no way of knowing if that were true for what you experienced or not. Usually at Tech – Georgia games, I have found the Georgia fans to be the most obnoxious I have seen anywhere, but I have to be honest: those I personally encountered at this game were polite, for the most part sober, and even gracious in victory. I was STUNNED….LOL I also talked to my niece at church this morning. I had gotten tickets to the game for her an her family (all Tech fans). She said the UGA fans around here were very friendly and well-behaved, but that there were two Tech fans in front of her an her family who were drunk as hell and obnoxious the entire game. We all have our share of bad fans, I guess.

Skitty, you are taking my comments off on a tangent. My point is that since I graduated in 1992, there has been a lack of commitment from the University and the Athletic Department to beating Georgia. It starts with recruiting. O’Leary got lucky 3 years in a row. Its not too hard to beat Tech, when almost every single recruit to Georgia is 4 and 5 star rated. Then that begs the question, why has Georgia not won several National Championships with all these high rated recruits over the past 20 years. So, I am back to my original question, why continue this so called rivalry, its very apparent that Tech is satisfied with 6, 7,or 8 wins a year and losing to Georgia.

I agree with supersize, that getting my degrees from Tech was pretty, @#$% tough. Yes, both were in Management, and I had to take a few calculus and stats classes. Again, this is not the point. Its not the academics in and of itself that is the problem. Tech is not making the commitment to beat Georgia or be much better than they are, and to the guy that says were broke, see the endowment to the school. We rank up there with Duke and many of the elite schools in this country with endowment size.

Do not talk to us about being classless. Your stupid student section booing, turning their backs, and yelling to hell with Georgia during the Larry Munson memorial is pathetic and a new low. Y’all just sealed your fate for next year. So have fun continuing to be our doormats.

a.bishop, a tribute to Munson was made on the screen before kickoff, and the entire stadium stood in honor of his memory, students included. I wasn’t even aware until I returned home that the UGA band gave an additional tribute during halftime; I never watch the bands on the field at halftime. I doubt very seriously that the Tech students had a clue what the band was doing. After I got home I saw a video clip online of what the UGA band did, and from where my seats are, it was all upside down, so I wouldn’t have even known what was going on if somebody hadn’t told me to watch the video clip. I can assure you that the Tech students weren’t booing Munson; they were simply booing the band, the way the Georgia fans ALWAYS boo the Tech band when on the field in Athens.

I might believe you Supersize and not think anything else about it except the fact that I wasn’t at the game and I didn’t get a chance to see the halftime antics. However, my information comes from 3 Tech graduates and a current Tech student who was in the student section and knew what was going on. All of them were pissed about it and they all knew what happened so I seriously doubt the students had no clue as to what was going on.

Another thing, a.bishop, you should consider it an honor and a show of class by Tech that Munson was honored by Tech prior to the game. Nobody in Athens ever honored Ciraldo after he passed away, and Munson and Ciraldo were close friends.

I was at the game, but I was in the upper deck on the east sideline. Tech students usually boo just about anything an opposing team does, unless it’s something so spectacular that they can’t help but paying attention to what’s going on. At basketball games, I used to think that the students stood and turned their backs on Coach K when he was introduced whenever Duke plays in Atlanta. Then I noticed the same thing going on when every other ACC coach and team was introduced too. That’s just part of their “ritual,” and I would bet that for the most part, the “ritual” at the game Sat was booing the UGA band, no matter what they were doing.

I am so sick of this standards mess. They have a formula to get any athlete in that they want. This gets so old. When Ross or O’leary was winning oh their was no problem with admissions or when Cremins was winning. Now that they can’t get over the hump it is because of academics. Notre Dame isn’t winning because with todays players tradition doesn’t mean anything. They could care less about playing for Notre Dame like Rudy did. Kind of like with all these kids moving around from high school to high school they don’t care about tradition. All they care about are themselves and it all starts with parents that are hoping to get rich off their kid.

SOME students threw bottles at Dan Devine from Notre Dame one year in Atlanta, supposedly “in retaliation” for his having needlessly run up the score against Tech at South Bend the previous year. Many of the students, however, were trying to find out who threw the bottles so they could be turned in. I think some were actually caught as a result. You can’t judge ALL the students by the actions of a few.

Tech needs to ditch the calculus classes and start a degree program in “Magazines”. It’ll help get those 4 or 5 star recruits. An ACT score of “2″ will help as well. The field needs to be leveled if Tech wants to play Pro football like the SEC.

I think Johnson’s mistake was not getting Lee ready to play by the middle of the season there were plenty of big leads in the early part of the tech year to play him. Washington proved last season that he could not be a accurate passer filling in for Nesbitt. Georgia’s last head coach did the same thing with David Green and it cost him his job, I don’t think it will with Johnson but he should have played him if he is the future at QB
