Georgia 31, Georgia Tech 17

Three quick thoughts.

1. Missed opportunities in the first half. The first play, not scoring a touchdown after reaching the Georgia 2-yard line, the timeout on the missed field goal. I’m hardly convinced it would have made a difference, but it reduced the Jackets’ margin considerably. The third quarter extinguished it completely.

2. The Tech pass defense didn’t cut it. Most times, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray had time to throw and open targets to throw to. Sub-par all the way around.

3. Tech proved again it can run the ball. Against the No. 2 run defense, the Jackets cleared 225 yards. However, it wasn’t nearly, nearly enough. The Jackets needed some sort of big play or three – a blocked punt, a long punt return, an interception taken back for a touchdown, an 80-yard touchdown run – and couldn’t summon it.

What do you think?

Give Skip Holtz another couple of years to win at S.FL he might be a good candidate. Down year for them this year after getting off to such a good start. Mike Leach? I just don’t see him as good as CPJ, and he has no recruiting ties to the SE. Same with the Oregon and OSU coordinators. Kirby Smart isn’t leaving Bama. And I don’t see Malzahn as a HC though he would be on a short list.

GT Undergrad – That’s the plan we usually follow on this blog. Sometimes the tactical aspects get a little complex, however.

So I’m reading the posts and it seems we have two camps. One is the camp that I fit into and the other is the camp that is basically saying Tech can be relevant for a couple of years but then not again for a few years because Tech can’t keep a good coach. Is that right?

From my perspective I think CPJ will continue to improve the team and will be here as long as he wants.

The only reason I’m speculating is there are “fans” that want to run CPJ off. I am NOT of that camp at all at this stage of the program.

I think Johnson is the right guy, too, OJF. The season didn’t end the way we wanted it, but at some point you have to tip your hat to Georgia. They have a good team. I don’t think they’ll win next week, but they’ll give LSU everything they can handle (assuming they’re healthy) for about three quarters.

This loss was a lot easier for me to take because I left the stadium knowing they were better. When that happens, I just let it go.

@ 1 4 GT, what exactly makes me a troll? Please explain. O’Leary is getting too old. And one of you asked for a coach with emotional ties with Tech? How about the Arizona Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt? I dont know if that would be a good hire though.

And if you believe Tech can be relevant and keep that great coach then we have to go back 50 years before history is on your side. Got to hand it to you….if you believed the sky was green there’d be no convincing you otherwise no matter how crazy the thought.

Here is a Coach to keep in mind for the future………………………….University of Central Florida running backs coach George Godsey is leaving the program after seven seasons to join the New England Patriots’ offensive staff, the Orlando Sentinel first reported Thursday.

Relive every game this season online and on-demand with enhanced viewing features. Get NFL Game Rewind.
“George has been with me for a long time as a player and coach,” UCF coach George O’Leary said in a statement released by the school. “This is happy news to see him get this opportunity to expand his coaching career with a great organization like the New England Patriots. I wish him good luck there.”

The Patriots confirmed Godfrey’s hiring as an offensive assistant later Thursday and also announced two other coaching moves on their Twitter page. Brian Ferentz was promoted from offensive assistant to tight ends coach, and Harold Nash was elevated from assistant to head strength and conditioning coach.

Godsey, a quarterback at Georgia Tech under O’Leary from 1998 to 2001, set the Yellow Jackets’ record for career completion percentage (63.3) and ranked second in career pass-efficiency rating (143.64). He ranks third all-time at the school with 41 touchdown passes.

Godsey also was a member of the 2003 Tampa Bay Storm team that won the ArenaBowl title.

Ken Weisnhunt of the Arizona Cards. He could be looking for a job soon.

Forever, if other schools can keep coaches for extended periods of time, then why couldn’t Tech too. I refuse to believe we couldn’t raise the money to keep a great coach. Now as to whether the fan base will support him 100%, I don’t know. Our fan base is historically (at least since Dodd) VERY FICKLE. Hell, even the students don’t come to games anymore. Is that Johnson’s fault? Some may blame him for it, but I think we just have a fickle, lazy student body as well as fan base.

I thought Whiz should have been considered after Gailey; I don’t know if he was or not. I LOVE Godsey, and he may be the man for the job in the future too, if CPJ leaves or totally flops, which I still don’t believe he has done.

FYI I like mostly like CPJ and his offensive style. He has his personal shortcomings as we all do, he is not very fan friendly from what I see. I think what GT achieved this year under Johnson was far better than any realistic fan had a reason to expect. They did pretty dang good, but I thought they let a win or two slip by. I never thought they were #12. I do think they can do better in the future. I love GT too much to believe otherwise.
