Three quick thoughts.
1. Missed opportunities in the first half. The first play, not scoring a touchdown after reaching the Georgia 2-yard line, the timeout on the missed field goal. I’m hardly convinced it would have made a difference, but it reduced the Jackets’ margin considerably. The third quarter extinguished it completely.
2. The Tech pass defense didn’t cut it. Most times, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray had time to throw and open targets to throw to. Sub-par all the way around.
3. Tech proved again it can run the ball. Against the No. 2 run defense, the Jackets cleared 225 yards. However, it wasn’t nearly, nearly enough. The Jackets needed some sort of big play or three – a blocked punt, a long punt return, an interception taken back for a touchdown, an 80-yard touchdown run – and couldn’t summon it.
What do you think?

51 – Who knows what the NCAA rules are for playing in bowls are anymore. Ohio State, case in point with those ineligible players allowed, but then have to sit 5 games the next season.

Look, all you naysayers, this was supposed to have been a 6-win season at best, and we won 8. Am I happy? Am I satisfied? NO!!! But improvement IS improvement, and with the commitments we have gotten so far for next year’s recruiting class, plus the redshirts that we already have in waiting, improvement WILL continue. The only real question here is whether the defense will improve or not. Sadly, right now, I have my doubts.

I stand corrected on Tech’s record this year vs 2010. I forgot to take in account that we played Western Carolina Catamounts and Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders this year. Come on guys give me a break with this tireless defending Paul Johnson!!! Like I said, as long as he controls the schedule…. He lucked up and beat Clemson, almost lost to Duke after having a big lead… do I need to continue?? Virginia and Miami games were jokes.

O.k. some of you people crack me up.
#1 – Tech has not truly competed with Georgia in over 40 years yet some of you seem to think Tech can and should year in year out….laughable.
#2 – Some of you who blame this on CPJ and the offense are ven MORE laughable because you obviously have no clue regarding the 37 years before CPJ even got to Tech. His results are no different that anyone else. “Complacent”? PLEASE!!!! when was the last time Tech was significant consistently in recruiting and in winning??? 1960? 1965? TECH IS WHAT TECH IS AND AS LONG AS COLLEGE FOOTBALL CONTINUES ON IT’S CURRENT PATH IT’S NOT GOING TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER!!!!!!!!!!! 8 wins at Tech is a great season……PERIOD.

Tech Forever, like I said, your facts are CORRECT, and I have as many seasons as you do. But O’Leary and Ross both changed the course of things while they were at Tech. It CAN happen again, and I for one think it CAN happen under Johnson.

The folks on here that know me also know I am not afraid to call out or question coaching at Tech. I’ve been very critical of CAG and I see nothing that would make me want him back next year. I have had my criticism of CPJ as well but as I’ve asked before, who would you bring in that you think would do a better job at this point in time? Someone suggested ( I hope tongue in cheek) Urban Meyer! C’mon! I would like to know who out there that is SO much better than CPJ at this time!

Supersize,
Ross averaged less than 8 wins per season and bailed 18 months after the end of his one great season because we didn’t have the $$$ to keep him…..the same will happen to any other flash in the pan Tech gets lucky in hiring. O’Leary again averaged right at 8 wins per season and after his offensive genius left he was clueless and left partly because he got sick of the unrealistic expectations of this fanbase. And besides, and here’s the kicker, BOTH Ross and O’Leary had the advantage NO Tech coach will ever have again…..each recruited under far more relaxed entrance requirements tthan any coach since or any ever will again. I’d bet upwards of 75% of those starters on those teams would never be admitted into Tech now…..especially under Ross but O’Leary wasn’t much better.

OJF, until today I was willing to give Groh the benefit of the doubt, and I still think we need better players on defense. But early in the year our secondary looked pretty good. It sucked today.

Supersize, goes back to what I saw earlier today. You can’t play off recievers 8-12 yards and expect to slow down a good passing attack. Over the last couple of weeks it looks like they’ve never seen a crossing route.

I think that today’s games mean that the SEC East winner goes to the SEC CG having not beaten a Top 25 opponent. At least 2 teams ended up with winning records, though; Tech and Auburn. I’m not sure how New Mexico St. did.

Tech Forever, we will never know for sure, but if Ross hadn’t wanted to go to the pros, I think he would have stayed, and I think he would have continued to produce. I had lots of problems with O’Leary, but the fact is, he did beat some damn good teams, and he won 3 in a row over UGA. I agree about the recruiting, and that’s why a coach like Johnson who doesn’t have to rely on highly recruited players on offense to make his system work CAN succeed. Defensive recruiting has GOT to improve though.

From a dawg fan…..
I fear CPJ more than chan e en O leary and ralf when they were together.
It is hard to prepare for the option.
You can’t do it in one week. Uga had to take a few days in the spring to practice for it just for tis game. And it hurts you as a team like ” UGA” when you have to take days out of your spring practice just to focus on one team.
If tech had a strong defense they can be a power house with that type of offense.
Look at bama at how they play they force 3 and outs and eat up clock using the run game.
Just my opinion

Supersize, I agree with you. We might not reach the annual level that LSU & Bamalamadingdong have attained–they won’t stay at that level forever and then listen to the crying from their folks. But by gosh, we can be COMPETITIVE on an annual basis and be in position to have a good chance of competing for conference titles and even have a shot at the top prize every few years. And by gosh darn it, we can put GT in a reasonable place to be highly competitive with Georgie and beat the often enough to at least make the btards bearable. Shame on the fans & alums who are willing to settle for less!

I wouldn’t want the Fridge as a head coach, but I think it could be an awesome move if CPJ hired him as a QB coach. It won’t happen, because each of them have big egos. But, to be fair, that wouldn’t happen at any school in the country where the HC runs the show.
