TEVIN WASHINGTON
On passes being open against 9-man front:
We had put it on the check. The pass I threw to Embry (Peeples), we had put in a check for that because last year when we played them, we saw how they were lining the safeties really wide and they were leaving the middle of the field wide open. We wanted to take advantage of that.
On responding to coach Paul Johnson’s challenge to take care of business:
I think we responded well. At times, it wasn’t always perfect, it wasn’t always a good at times, but the end result is we finished out strong and got the win. We got the result we came here for.
It’s like that every week but this week, there was more emphasis on taking care of business. We worked too hard all year, all offseason, to come here and not take care of business, not finish the way we want to.
On the first-down run to run out the clock:
Coach (Paul) Johnson just told me to get the first down. He was like, the sprint-out, there shouldn’t be anybody out there. You should be able to just sprint around the edge and get the first down.
On receivers making adjustments to make catches:
When they make an adjustment, it gets your confidence up. Guys go out there, make a play for you, you go out there and try to make a play for them.
EMBRY PEEPLES
On not having Orwin Smith:
It was a little different, because you normally have that power at that position that we usually get from Big O. We still just have to come out here and play the same like he was there.
On his race to the pilon for his touchdown run:
It was a little closer than I thought. I was thinking Roddy (Jones) was going to get the safety down and he kind of chipped him and he kind of stayed on his feet and stumbled up. It made it a little more difficult, but the end result is I got there. That’s all that matters.
JEREMIAH ATTAOCHU
On if it was difficult to get into the flow of the game after halftime:
Not really. I mean, football is what we do. We step on the field, it’s time to go. It doesn’t take long to go. Mentally, I was ready to go and physically, I felt like I was ready to go in, too. So I just went in relaxed. I didn’t try to be a savior or anything. l just went in to play my role on defense.
On the penalties extending drives:
That’s definitely a concern. The funny thing about it is, it’s an easy thing to fix. We know exactly what’s wrong. That’s an easy problem to fix. We’re definitely going to fix it, be more disciplined.
STEVEN SYLVESTER
On Georgia:
We definitely want to go out on a good note. Georgia’s had our number the past couple years. They just keep rebuilding and reloading. Georgia’s always going to be a good football team, so we’re going to have to really be on our game when it comes to next Saturday.
DUKE NOSE TACKLE CHARLIE HATCHER
Being one of the defensive tackles, we came out wanting to stop the dives, and they were able to get some yards on dives on occasion, and we can’t let that happen. Then there were some pass plays and some outside running plays. You have to stop those big plays from happening by holding them to under three yards. We were able to do that on a lot of drives, but not every one of them, so it kind of hurt us.

I don’t know why UGA would even try to run on us next week. We can’t stop a short pass. Aaron Murray will have a career day and they’ll hang half-a-hundred on us unless Groh can come up with something quick.

Reasons the nerds hate UGA so much:
UGA has hotter women (apparently Tech has none in general)
UGA has a bigger and better stadium
UGA sellsout their games
UGA goes to Championship games
UGA is almost a constant 10 win or more team.

In case you were wondering, GT nor UGA covered their spread yesterday. GT was -10 or 11 I believe, while UGA was -30.
Kinda dumb to jump on the GT blog and rag the Jackets for not doing something that even your Dawgs couldn’t do … cover a spread vs. a weak opponent.
Or is your argument gonna be something like this:
UGA vs. UK was an SEC game, and everyone knows how great this conf is so….
On the other hand, GT vs. Duke was an ACC game, and everyone knows that conf stinks.

But, of course, you never worry about the truth. I said after the USC game that UGA would win the rest of their games. I typed this on another blog on which an idiot who calls himself DawgNole went on a couple of hours attacking Supersize that order, mutt, On and on. The same applies to Steve and the others whose only meaningful thing in their life is to get on a Tech site and spit out thier incredibly stupid and hateful comments.
It would seem most unlikely that even DawgNote is still here after his ongoing rant of last night, but it still mystifies me as to how any individual can get so much pleasure cominng on another team’s blog and just attack, attack, attack. First, anyone who reads these blogs knows that there is/are (a) UGA fan(s) who seem to get their kicks using Super’s name. They have done it with me a few times. This is real cool — even though most cowardly. I know that Ken is not going to remove offensive comments, and that’s ok, but he should atleast make people stick to one handle, or let us know when they use multiple, and often other’s, names. I would like to go to a system like the letters to the editor in which you actually have to state your name before they will post it. I assure you, that would cut out most of the cowardly crap we see from folks such as Dawgnole. I’m sure I am asking for too much, but its worth a try.

Tech Versus UGA
November 20th, 2011
10:40 am
This will be a good game. Both teams have shown signs of being pretty good and both have played pretty sloppy at times. The obvious is for UGA to stack the box and dare Tech to throw… Tech will throw and were practicing against Duke. If UGA can establish a running game they will go with that to keep Tech’s offense off the field. Turnovers and Special team’s play will be huge…..no one likes to lose this game…. but that’s what makes it fun
HighTechRedneck

Tech Versus UGA…UGA has a tough secondary and the linebacker, Ogletree, is a beast. Not sure about UGA’s running game. Crowell is not durable and the other running backs, while good, are not as good as what they had last year. Murray is a good quarterback and hopefully Groh will call some effective blitzes to make him hurry and make mistakes. Tevin Washington will need to not throw “floaters” that Rambo and the others can pick off.

All these trolls, on the Tech site so early, crowing about surviving against Kentucky, a team which has won 4 games all season, including against Western Kentucky and Central Michigan, but was most recently blown out AT HOME to Vandy, and beating up on Auburn, who struggled against mighty Samford, AT HOME? Wow, you must be so proud of your “beloved” team, steamrolling these powerhouses, just like the other you’ve won in a row…
Shoo little trolling doggy fans; come back next week, if you must, because then we’ll have something in common to talk about…the same game. Reasons why UGA fans hate Georgia Tech fans.
1. We make more than 7.50 an Hour
2. Atlanta is interesting more than one day a week
3. Everyone hates their employers

@ Steve-
Reason you came up with that list
1) You have no women in your life to give you anything to do
Look at your list please, here’s where you’r wrong-
1) Tech has women, we call them cute…you call the one you know “Boss”
2)Your team had a chance to clinch a SEC East Title and didnt sellout
3)You must be a bandwagon fan cause UGA hasnt been to a SEC title game in awhile
4)You hit the nail on the head man, UGA GOES to Championships, doesnt win them, but yall go..HA
5)Tech has the last Confrence title out of the 2 teams
6)Tech has the last Natl Title between the 2 teams
7)There is crime everywhere, you’ll prob be missing a tire when you go outside…if you have a car and ever leave mommy’s basement
8)The only teams in the SEC who can brag are LSU, BAMA, and Arkansas. All 3 of those teams would kill you guys and 1 will get the chance to. Notice all 3 of those teams are in the SEC WEST. The East only sends someone to the game cause they have to…
9) Tech fans are virgins for life?? Hahah, funny, coming from the guy who prob paid his cousin to go to prom with him

Maybe Steve doesn’t understand this, but people do not go to Tech to meet hot women or because they want to bask in the glory of Herschel Walker and a 31 years ago national title. Generally, they’re doing it because they want a high quality education and a high paying job. Some of them even get off on being able to say no to your vacation request.
The hot women usually come after all that, and, there are plenty of hot ones in Atlanta.
Finally, Steven, may I suggest that if you’re looking for a really safe place to go to school, up at Penn State in Happy Valley, it’s pretty much just like Georgia, and you might find the former defensive coordinator to your liking.
Finally, trying to remember the last time a GT professor went on a murder spree, but I do recall the UGA professor who axed his wife, http://www.cityjournalistdirectory.com/event/wanted_george_zinkhan_for_murder_athens_georgia/
Yeah, no crime there.

Tech Versus UGA….Thanks. I will be interested in seeing what Grantham will do. Since both teams have a 3-4 defense, I wonder if it will give Tech an advantage for the offense to prepare against it. Murray is elusive. He is accurate when he is not hurried and he can run with the ball, too. I really didn’t see what Kentucky did to slow down Georgia other than be physical with them. I would flip over to CSS to watch during Tech/Duke time-outs.

We need our secondary to show up like they did for Clemson, a game that they were excited to play. I see no difference in this game than that one in regards to importance in the minds of our players and coaches, which bodes well for Tech. I do think that we practiced our passing a lot against Duke to get ready for UGA and if Tevin avoids the floaters, we will have great success again. Hopefully, this will open up the running game and allow us to kill clock as well. CPJ’s schemes have not been stopped by UGAy since he became our coach and I see no reason for that to change now.
I like Perkins being used as a big bruiser, we need him to pound the inside against UGAy’s linemen and backers to make them feel the pain. A few good hits and they will tuck their tails and start the whining again about cut blocks and how bad football hurts.
We know they will attempt to injure our skill players, a la the knee twist on Nesbitt in 09, so the best offense against that is to hit them hard and don’t stop until they give up. I foresee two ten minute Jacket drives this game, with lots of puppies crawling back to their doghouse.

Why does there have to be 1 Best team? Unlike the NFL all the team don’t play in the same league. The Conference Champs are all that are needed and the Bowl games are what they were supposed to be…………..Fun and a reward for a good season. There are so many different Styles that don’t match up well, but that doesn’t mean 1 team is always better. To prove that you need a best 3 of 5. not just 1 game. The NCAA Bball tourney proves any team can win 1 game and not be the BEST team.

I think the reasons trolls like mutt fan Steve have to come over to a Tech board to talk smack is that
1) very few on a mutt forum are capable of forming coherent sentences
2) He knows that the game next week can easily go our way, so he has to get his smack talking in beforehand.
3) and last, but NOT least–he knows the mutts are gonna get theri a$$es handed to them by LSU, so it’s his last chance for now to talk about a team that the pups actually have a chance against

Glad we pulled out the Duke win, but our defense is going to have to step it up in a major way if we are going to have a chance against UGA. I’m afraid they are going to pass all over the field and make for a long day. However, if our guys play like they did the Clemson game, we do have a chance.
Congrats to UGA for pulling out a good season after a rough start. Their schedule made that possible, but you also have to play and win even the easy games. Glad I’m going to be gone most of the week so don’t have to listen to their comments – many of which are why I did not become a Dawg fan after moving here. It should be a great game. As evident by the NCSU-Clem game—attitude and a few breaks can dramatically turn a game. Neither Tech nor UGA has been consistent all year and which team shows up and what game plan is implemented will determine the outcome. UGA like UVA has a huge O-Line and should be able to run and we cannot stop the short pass or passes over the middle. UGA is not very disciplined and Tech’s O should chew up yards especially up the middle where the 3-4 is vulnerable. For some reason, Tech doesn’t seem to have any short pass plays in the playbook (WHY???), but if we connect on the long pass a few times, then the game will be close. A win for Tech would be a nice finish to an overachieving season and inspire momentum for next year.

yeller bug…the Yellow Jackets have had some success with wide receiver screens. Coach Johnson will run inside to make the outside vulnerable to the option. He will throw deep to get the safeties and corners to back off to reestablish the run offense. Not saying he’s any smarter than any other coach, but he plays a chess match I enjoy watching.

HighTech. I agree—if the safeties come up, then try to burn them long and a short in such instances would be throwing into traffic. We do throw the quick out to the wide receiver and we should do it more often especially on 1st down since the corners are often 6 – 10 yds off the LOS. We all arm-chair QB (main purpose of blogs) and I really like CPJ, but our play calling still seems “conservative”. We’ve run one shuttle pass all year. We have crossing routes to A-backs which is a harder pass to complete than play action and hitting an A-back on a 6 or 8 yd curl route which is basically throwing to a stationary target (higher % pass play). I’ve yet to see us run something like this which is a staple of Oregon and Boise State. We can have a run and shoot offense—just the QB is under center and we put pressure on the D for the quick dive play. After that fake, we can run, pitch or throw and implementing some quick throws off the fake dive would add another weapon in our arsenal.

yeller bug…are shorter routes being run on the long passes down field? What I’m asking is, are the short route receivers open but Tevin chooses to throw it down field because the long pass is open? I haven’t seen too many curl routes, but the B-Back wheel route was a nice play for Charles Perkins.

HighTech: There may be some short routes being run and perhaps they’re not open. TW seems to look at his primary receiver the whole way. My larger point is a set of plays that fake the dive, do a quick 1 or 2 step drop and throw a quick pass to an A back. Even our play action passes, TW does a 4 step drop. CPJ knows what he’s doing. Maybe these type of plays will become available when Vad Lee gets in the mix.

Win or lose they were headed to Charlotte so why not rest some starters and try a few new schemes. When you think about it why should UGA care much about next week’s game against us. They are going to Atlanta win or lose and then somebody, Arkansas or LSU is going to beat their brains out. I would like to believe we could beat a UGA squad that has nothing but in State pride to play for but I am not optimistic. Tech might want to wear white helmets for the Georgia game as a gimmick, along with the WC jerseys, making their upper body unis very light in color.

Probation, you have obviously not read one bit about the “major” infraction that Tech “committed”. If you would you might have an informed opinion. It’s already been mentioned, but what is missing is how the NCAA “investigator” went about questioning Thomas. He was a hack at best and an example of what is wrong with the NCAA. If that is standard protocol for the NCAA then I pity all student athletes.

HTR, they weren’t hard to read on ESPN3 on the computer at all. When Tech serves a shade of gold for unis, they don’t make mistakes ever. If they could just embrace the old gold again they wore when I was there. The last time they wore it was against Groh’s Virginia and they won, something they had not done against them in a long time. The old gold undoubtedly psyched them out since it was from the early 70’s, and the white helmets also. I think the players actually liked to wear those unis for the Virginia game.

“What would happen to the polls if Georgia Tech beats Georgia, Arkansas beats LSU, Georgia beats Alabama at the Dome? Who would play for the BCS trophy?”
Arkansas and LSU I think. They would be 1 lose teams, I think there is a provision for 3 teams from a conference to be in BCS bowls, if they have #1 and #2, and the conference champion is not one of those two.

I’m always amazed that grown men (and, presumably, a smattering of women, but we have no reliable demographic data) can act like a gaggle of kids on the playground when it comes to discussion about an impending game between the teams representing our state’s two most prestigious state universities.
Tech is a good football team. Their will present a substantial challenge for a very capable Georgia defense. Tech’s defense is another matter. If they play like they did against Clemson, and Georgia’s offense plays like it did against Kentucky, then the Jackets have a shot at the upset. If, on the other hand, Tech’s D plays like it did against Duke and Georgia’s offense plays like it did against Auburn, it could get ugly.
Here’s my take: both teams have had a little Jekyll and Hyde thing going on this year. Georgia played its best offensive game of the year against Auburn and its worst offensive game of the year the following week, against Kentucky. Tech played lights out against Clemson and sleepwalked through the Duke game. They will both come out motivated this Saturday–the Jackets perhaps more so, as they have something to prove after losing 10 of the last 11. Playing the law of averages, I suspect that Georgia will hit close to its average against a mediocre Tech D (which means about 400-420 yards total offense and around 31-34 points scored) and Tech will play the Dawgs tough, scoring points with the mobile QB and misdirection plays to allow Tech to exceed the 17.8 points per game the Dawgs have allowed–scoring, say, 24 points. That would give you a 31-24 Georgia win. This spread could be shifted by turnovers or special teams play. The game will be close at halftime, and Tech might even lead at that point, but Georgia should pull away in the second half as Grantham makes adjustments on D. He’s done a great job with that this year (note the Florida game, where the Gators were held to 32 second-half yards, and the Kentucky game, where the Wildcats got 8 total yards of offense after halftime).
That’s an attempt at a semi-scientific analysis. Fire away.

Keys to Beating UGA
1. Stop thinking you have to do something special to beat them.
2. Stop thinking.
3. Just Play
4. UGA is talented so are you.
5. Stop making foolish mistakes week in and week out and telling the papers its correctable. Correct it.
6. Make a play when your number is called. You win when you make plays you lose when you don’t.
7. Honestly, they fear you more. More to lose is how they feel. So, give them what they fear.
8. Nobody understands the mindset of a champion. That is why there is only one every year.
9. Logic doesn’t factor in when you play a game that allows you to not the sense out of somebody.
10. Be better than average and you will never play like every one else. The great ones don’t drop passes. Play with uncertainty, or make excuses why they weren’t mentally prepared to play in a big game or a not so big game. Because, a winner knows that they all are big games.
Bonus: The story of David and Goliath wasn’t about the underdog beating the favorite. It was about having confidence and faith enough to know its about heart or the fight in the person that determines the outcome of any challenge. Just step up your game and GOD will do the rest.

UGA over just the last 10 years ( not counting this year yet) has attended 3 Sugar Bowl games and two Capitol One Bowl games and a couple or four minor bowls. Not bad.
GT in 09 and before that in 1967 and before that in 1955 or 56 attended a major bowl. They saw the Urange Bowl twice in 09 and 1967 and possibly the Sugar or Cotton Bowl in 1955 or 1956. Shucks …………….I’ll give em 1955 AND 1956, so they have been to FOUR MAJORS in 57 years. A major bowl every 16 years does not indicate a solid program, now does it? THIS IS GT’s MAJOR BOWL RECORD. Look it up.

That’s low — even for a dawg fan…to pretend to be a jacket fan saying that sort of thing. You’re probably the same sociopath that contacts high school recruits. Larry was a good man, and every jacket I know has expressed their condolences to dawg nation’s loss. His play by play was one of the best ever, and I enjoyed listening to him any time I had to drive through Atlanta. You really are a loser for posting something like that.

yeah dude, that isn’t cool. Whether youre a jacket or dawg fan pretending to be a jacket fan, that’s below the belt and on par with building blogs to hate on your rival and their recruits. Larry was a good man and any school would be glad to have someone like that man represent them.

Out of respect for Larry Munson, I will post this here instead of a georgia blog. I do think georgia will beat LSU but they will not beat Georgia Tech this Saturday. Paul Johnson’s football is a thinking man’s game and coaching is calculus. Our players and coaches will disrupt georgia’s timimg on Saturday by controling the clock and therefore the 2-3-4 quarters of the game. georgia could gain a big lead early, as the dog nation gets loud and proud, but soon they will find their offense struggle to find a rythym as Tech gains momentum and begins to control the pace of the game. Similarly, georgia’s great defense (4th in the NCAA) will become openly frustrated as they wear down, yielding more first downs than any one game this season and for the first time in a long time become unable to save their struggling offense. Look for some undisciplined and unsportsmanlike conduct penaties by the dogs in the 2nd half as they become winded and unable to figure out how Tech can do this with far less talent and depth. By the middle of the 4th quarter look for a silent sea of red to be filing for the exits chosing not to witness Georgia Tech winning the SEC East. And look for Yellow Fuzz to be online all weekend answering any questions they may have.

Talk is over, we’ll see how GT handles the best D the DAWGS have had in years.
Not like recent UGA D teams is THIS EDITION
November 21st, 2011
9:40 am
Why has UGA statistically done far better on D than in past years? CTG and his install of the 3/4 and his players signing on to it.
THE BIG change is with N Guards Gathers AND JOHN JENKINS. They are flanked by FORMER NOSE men Abry Jones and DeAngelo Tyson, who were out of their natural positions last year at nose and in 09. THIS IS HUGE ………….because UGA will control the middle of the LOS, forcing GT to pitch it to …………….. Jarvis Jones or Alec Ogletree or Washington or to Christian Robinson or to Garrsion Smith or to Mike Gilliard. See? UGA’s D IS UNLIKE the recent CWM past and this is why UGA will win a well fought, fairly close game.

South Carolina struggled to stop the triple-option offense when they played Georgia Tech earlier in the season, but the defense proved up to a similar challenge this week, holding the Bulldogs to 241 rushing yards but just eight passing

We will at least have a small chance if we can stop UGA but I don’t we can score enough to hold off UGA in the 4th quarter.
8-4 or. 9-3 is not a bad year but I just wish we could get to the next level.
Seriously we are a long way from being a LSU or Bama.

Really lets just play the game and see what happens.
GT has the better offense numbers but UGA has the defense.
Should be a good game and neither team is really on fire right now.
I think UGA’s RB situation makes the game a toss up.
My UGA friends are

I do know of a few UGA grads that really worked for a GT grad. MY wife was one such UGA grad working for a GT man. No kidding. Ron Allen was
(WAS) CEO of Delta Airlines BEFORE HE WAS FIRED. She retired from Delta after about 35 years and was NOT FIRED like GT man, Ron Allen.
Now, 98% of my OTHER UGA classmates are Vets, MDs, or Pharmacists or entrepreneurs, or CPAs or bankers or farmers ( land owners and self employed). I do know some Georiga employed teachers and that is that. Teachers report to the Dept of Ed and the Ga. Gov lately have been UGA men.
I never worked for any GT man, because they usally are mid level egineers like for old Atlanta Gas or Ga Power or Lockheed.
This UGA folks end up saying hey boss( GT man) is immature and dumb. Besides, 68% of all GT grads NOW go home to Iran or to Iraq or Serbia or Egypt.
As a UGA grad, I ran Japanes firm in sales marketing from Atlanta AND NYC on Madison Avenue and their engineers reported to me, when we did production runs of product. See?? Their engineers were Cal Poly or MIT or Lehigh men ……………not ole GT ……………which is a fine school.
Now, you have it.

Yellow Fuzz,,it could happen but we all know you predict such every year so you saying it means little. Nobody runs on the Dawgs this year but this is no ordinary run game. If Dawgs can get rhyythm in passing game they will score a bunch, but they don’t always get the rhythm. I will stay til the end unless it is a blow out. If you ever tried to get back from Athens after a game you would leave early also but you must also realize that we have more fans in the stadium even after half of them leave then you ever have all year.

Duke recruits vs KY recruits
November 21st, 2011

Duke vs KY on the football fieldFOOTBALL SKILL, Speed and physicality >>> HUGE advantage to KY.
Duke recruits good kids but VERY doubtful if ONE of their starters would be second team SEC or even recruited by any SEC team. None.
I viewed some Duke /GT film and their speed and basic tackling skills were pathetic. They are horrible.
I will agree GT was not focused and was simply mailing it in like UGA did with KY.
We shall see by 5 PM Saturday afternoon.
At stake for both teams:
UGA wins and then loses in THE DOME……………COTTON BOWL BOUND. If we defeat GT and LSU/ALABAMA/ARKY ……………………..Sugar Bowl bound we are.
Not bad prospects and the SEC brand does it.
GT? Belk Bowl IF …………….IF they win. Sad, nothing to play for. THIS IS GT football over most of my life. Two Orange Bowl bids in 44 years. 1967 and again 43 years later in 2009.

If I wanted to be as ignorant and stereotypical as you, here’s what I would probably say…

@ Steve-
Reason you came up with that list
Hahah, funny, coming from the guy who prob paid his cousin to go to prom with him
Wow this has to be the funniest thing i have seen. A nerd trying to bash UGA for anything.
Wow complaining we didnt sell out for Kentucky???? Whens the last time Tech sold out a game when UGA wasnt playing there?
And actually we have the last of both Conference and National title. Your 2009 ACC title was stripped for the FACT that you cheated. And NO ONE outside of GT recognizes your 1990 SHARED title.
Crime is 10X worst around Tech than UGA, we dont have women getted reaped weekly.
As for going up against the top 3 in the west, all three can be beaten. LSU and Bama struggle on offense, while Ark struggles on D. All 3 can be beat period.
And yes you tech nerds are more likely than not, virgins.

UGA is the better school period. And really you thik that since UGA is actually a good sports school, that maybe we actually have fans that didnt go to the University??? O wow, now thats a concept.
All you nerds need to get over yourselves. If this blog was intended to discuss academics it wouldnt be in the SPORTS section. So take your grade talk somewhere else. Care to give an argument that even moderately supports this? Because i’m not sure hardly anybody would agree with you. You have an ok school that fulfills that pesky academic requirement for your football team.

UGA graduates created, funded and founded the trade school. So UGA is your daddy in more ways than one.

Well first they are ranked 62nd right now and haven’t been ranked in the top 50 ever to my knowledge. Two, GT is the 4th best engineering school in the country only behind MIT, Stanford, and Cal-Berkeley. Please give me the amazing strategy that UGA is going to use to create an engineering program that will shoot past GT, Cal Tech, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan, and other well know engineering schools who have been doing it forever.
