Georgia Tech quoteboard

TEVIN WASHINGTON

On passes being open against 9-man front:

We had put it on the check. The pass I threw to Embry (Peeples), we had put in a check for that because last year when we played them, we saw how they were lining the safeties really wide and they were leaving the middle of the field wide open. We wanted to take advantage of that.

On responding to coach Paul Johnson’s challenge to take care of business:

I think we responded well. At times, it wasn’t always perfect, it wasn’t always a good at times, but the end result is we finished out strong and got the win. We got the result we came here for.

It’s like that every week but this week, there was more emphasis on taking care of business. We worked too hard all year, all offseason, to come here and not take care of business, not finish the way we want to.

On the first-down run to run out the clock:

Coach (Paul) Johnson just told me to get the first down. He was like, the sprint-out, there shouldn’t be anybody out there. You should be able to just sprint around the edge and get the first down.

On receivers making adjustments to make catches:

When they make an adjustment, it gets your confidence up. Guys go out there, make a play for you, you go out there and try to make a play for them.

EMBRY PEEPLES

On not having Orwin Smith:

It was a little different, because you normally have that power at that position that we usually get from Big O. We still just have to come out here and play the same like he was there.

On his race to the pilon for his touchdown run:

It was a little closer than I thought. I was thinking Roddy (Jones) was going to get the safety down and he kind of chipped him and he kind of stayed on his feet and stumbled up. It made it a little more difficult, but the end result is I got there. That’s all that matters.

JEREMIAH ATTAOCHU

On if it was difficult to get into the flow of the game after halftime:

Not really. I mean, football is what we do. We step on the field, it’s time to go. It doesn’t take long to go. Mentally, I was ready to go and physically, I felt like I was ready to go in, too. So I just went in relaxed. I didn’t try to be a savior or anything. l just went in to play my role on defense.

On the penalties extending drives:

That’s definitely a concern. The funny thing about it is, it’s an easy thing to fix. We know exactly what’s wrong. That’s an easy problem to fix. We’re definitely going to fix it, be more disciplined.

STEVEN SYLVESTER

On Georgia:

We definitely want to go out on a good note. Georgia’s had our number the past couple years. They just keep rebuilding and reloading. Georgia’s always going to be a good football team, so we’re going to have to really be on our game when it comes to next Saturday.

DUKE NOSE TACKLE CHARLIE HATCHER

Being one of the defensive tackles, we came out wanting to stop the dives, and they were able to get some yards on dives on occasion, and we can’t let that happen. Then there were some pass plays and some outside running plays. You have to stop those big plays from happening by holding them to under three yards. We were able to do that on a lot of drives, but not every one of them, so it kind of hurt us.

Whenever I would hear a commercial on the radio with the voice of Dooley or Munson, I would change stations, just like I do now for Richt’s Ga Sat Ford ads on tv. Not because I don’t/didn’t like the men, I don’t like what they represented to me. That being said, I know the UGA nation is saddened by Mr. Munson’s passing and his family are in my thoughts and prayers and a huge hope that God’s peace be on them in their time of sorrow.

Bowls indicate a brand over the long haul, not just one big year

November 20th, 2011
11:36 pm

UGA over just the last 10 years ( not counting this year yet) has attended 3 Sugar Bowl games and two Capitol One Bowl games and a couple or four minor bowls. Not bad.

GT in 09 and before that in 1967 and before that in 1955 or 56 attended a major bowl. They saw the Urange Bowl twice in 09 and 1967 and possibly the Sugar or Cotton Bowl in 1955 or 1956. Shucks …………….I’ll give em 1955 AND 1956, so they have been to FOUR MAJORS in 57 years. A major bowl every 16 years does not indicate a solid program, now does it? THIS IS GT’s MAJOR BOWL RECORD. Look it up.

Richt owns CPJ and he OWNS GT and UGA’s line will stompy GT’s cute, lil triple option.

Out of respect for Larry Munson, I will post this here instead of a georgia blog. I do think georgia will beat LSU but they will not beat Georgia Tech this Saturday. Paul Johnson’s football is a thinking man’s game and coaching is calculus. Our players and coaches will disrupt georgia’s timimg on Saturday by controling the clock and therefore the 2-3-4 quarters of the game. georgia could gain a big lead early, as the dog nation gets loud and proud, but soon they will find their offense struggle to find a rythym as Tech gains momentum and begins to control the pace of the game. Similarly, georgia’s great defense (4th in the NCAA) will become openly frustrated as they wear down, yielding more first downs than any one game this season and for the first time in a long time become unable to save their struggling offense. Look for some undisciplined and unsportsmanlike conduct penaties by the dogs in the 2nd half as they become winded and unable to figure out how Tech can do this with far less talent and depth. By the middle of the 4th quarter look for a silent sea of red to be filing for the exits chosing not to witness Georgia Tech winning the SEC East. And look for Yellow Fuzz to be online all weekend answering any questions they may have.

Talk is over, we’ll see how GT handles the best D the DAWGS have had in years.

Not like recent UGA D teams is THIS EDITION

November 21st, 2011
9:40 am

Why has UGA statistically done far better on D than in past years? CTG and his install of the 3/4 and his players signing on to it.

THE BIG change is with N Guards Gathers AND JOHN JENKINS. They are flanked by FORMER NOSE men Abry Jones and DeAngelo Tyson, who were out of their natural positions last year at nose and in 09. THIS IS HUGE ………….because UGA will control the middle of the LOS, forcing GT to pitch it to …………….. Jarvis Jones or Alec Ogletree or Washington or to Christian Robinson or to Garrsion Smith or to Mike Gilliard. See? UGA’s D IS UNLIKE the recent CWM past and this is why UGA will win a well fought, fairly close game.

My UGA friends are

November 21st, 2011
10:28 am

I do know of a few UGA grads that really worked for a GT grad. MY wife was one such UGA grad working for a GT man. No kidding. Ron Allen was
(WAS) CEO of Delta Airlines BEFORE HE WAS FIRED. She retired from Delta after about 35 years and was NOT FIRED like GT man, Ron Allen.

Now, 98% of my OTHER UGA classmates are Vets, MDs, or Pharmacists or entrepreneurs, or CPAs or bankers or farmers ( land owners and self employed). I do know some Georiga employed teachers and that is that. Teachers report to the Dept of Ed and the Ga. Gov lately have been UGA men.

I never worked for any GT man, because they usally are mid level egineers like for old Atlanta Gas or Ga Power or Lockheed.

This UGA folks end up saying hey boss( GT man) is immature and dumb. Besides, 68% of all GT grads NOW go home to Iran or to Iraq or Serbia or Egypt.

As a UGA grad, I ran Japanes firm in sales marketing from Atlanta AND NYC on Madison Avenue and their engineers reported to me, when we did production runs of product. See?? Their engineers were Cal Poly or MIT or Lehigh men ……………not ole GT ……………which is a fine school.

Now, you have it.

Yellow Fuzz,,it could happen but we all know you predict such every year so you saying it means little. Nobody runs on the Dawgs this year but this is no ordinary run game. If Dawgs can get rhyythm in passing game they will score a bunch, but they don’t always get the rhythm. I will stay til the end unless it is a blow out. If you ever tried to get back from Athens after a game you would leave early also but you must also realize that we have more fans in the stadium even after half of them leave then you ever have all year.

Duke recruits vs KY recruits

November 21st, 2011
10:36 am

Duke vs KY on the football fieldFOOTBALL SKILL, Speed and physicality >>> HUGE advantage to KY.

Duke recruits good kids but VERY doubtful if ONE of their starters would be second team SEC or even recruited by any SEC team. None.

I viewed some Duke /GT film and their speed and basic tackling skills were pathetic. They are horrible.

I will agree GT was not focused and was simply mailing it in like UGA did with KY.

We shall see by 5 PM Saturday afternoon.

At stake for both teams:
UGA wins and then loses in THE DOME……………COTTON BOWL BOUND. If we defeat GT and LSU/ALABAMA/ARKY ……………………..Sugar Bowl bound we are.

Not bad prospects and the SEC brand does it.

GT? Belk Bowl IF …………….IF they win. Sad, nothing to play for. THIS IS GT football over most of my life. Two Orange Bowl bids in 44 years. 1967 and again 43 years later in 2009.

@ Steve-
Reason you came up with that list
1) You have no women in your life to give you anything to do

Look at your list please, here’s where you’r wrong-
1) Tech has women, we call them cute…you call the one you know “Boss”
2)Your team had a chance to clinch a SEC East Title and didnt sellout
3)You must be a bandwagon fan cause UGA hasnt been to a SEC title game in awhile
4)You hit the nail on the head man, UGA GOES to Championships, doesnt win them, but yall go..HA
5)Tech has the last Confrence title out of the 2 teams
6)Tech has the last Natl Title between the 2 teams
7)There is crime everywhere, you’ll prob be missing a tire when you go outside…if you have a car and ever leave mommy’s basement
8)The only teams in the SEC who can brag are LSU, BAMA, and Arkansas. All 3 of those teams would kill you guys and 1 will get the chance to. Notice all 3 of those teams are in the SEC WEST. The East only sends someone to the game cause they have to…
9) Tech fans are virgins for life?? Hahah, funny, coming from the guy who prob paid his cousin to go to prom with him

Wow this has to be the funniest thing i have seen. A nerd trying to bash UGA for anything.

Wow complaining we didnt sell out for Kentucky???? Whens the last time Tech sold out a game when UGA wasnt playing there?

And actually we have the last of both Conference and National title. Your 2009 ACC title was stripped for the FACT that you cheated. And NO ONE outside of GT recognizes your 1990 SHARED title.

Crime is 10X worst around Tech than UGA, we dont have women getted reaped weekly.

As for going up against the top 3 in the west, all three can be beaten. LSU and Bama struggle on offense, while Ark struggles on D. All 3 can be beat period.

And yes you tech nerds are more likely than not, virgins.

UGA is a top 50 university year in and year out. They will soon take over engineering as well with the expansion of their programs. Hence why GT fought tooth and nail to prevent UGA from getting the funds.

Well first they are ranked 62nd right now and haven’t been ranked in the top 50 ever to my knowledge. Two, GT is the 4th best engineering school in the country only behind MIT, Stanford, and Cal-Berkeley. Please give me the amazing strategy that UGA is going to use to create an engineering program that will shoot past GT, Cal Tech, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan, and other well know engineering schools who have been doing it forever.
