TEVIN WASHINGTON
On passes being open against 9-man front:
We had put it on the check. The pass I threw to Embry (Peeples), we had put in a check for that because last year when we played them, we saw how they were lining the safeties really wide and they were leaving the middle of the field wide open. We wanted to take advantage of that.
On responding to coach Paul Johnson’s challenge to take care of business:
I think we responded well. At times, it wasn’t always perfect, it wasn’t always a good at times, but the end result is we finished out strong and got the win. We got the result we came here for.
It’s like that every week but this week, there was more emphasis on taking care of business. We worked too hard all year, all offseason, to come here and not take care of business, not finish the way we want to.
On the first-down run to run out the clock:
Coach (Paul) Johnson just told me to get the first down. He was like, the sprint-out, there shouldn’t be anybody out there. You should be able to just sprint around the edge and get the first down.
On receivers making adjustments to make catches:
When they make an adjustment, it gets your confidence up. Guys go out there, make a play for you, you go out there and try to make a play for them.
EMBRY PEEPLES
On not having Orwin Smith:
It was a little different, because you normally have that power at that position that we usually get from Big O. We still just have to come out here and play the same like he was there.
On his race to the pilon for his touchdown run:
It was a little closer than I thought. I was thinking Roddy (Jones) was going to get the safety down and he kind of chipped him and he kind of stayed on his feet and stumbled up. It made it a little more difficult, but the end result is I got there. That’s all that matters.
JEREMIAH ATTAOCHU
On if it was difficult to get into the flow of the game after halftime:
Not really. I mean, football is what we do. We step on the field, it’s time to go. It doesn’t take long to go. Mentally, I was ready to go and physically, I felt like I was ready to go in, too. So I just went in relaxed. I didn’t try to be a savior or anything. l just went in to play my role on defense.
On the penalties extending drives:
That’s definitely a concern. The funny thing about it is, it’s an easy thing to fix. We know exactly what’s wrong. That’s an easy problem to fix. We’re definitely going to fix it, be more disciplined.
STEVEN SYLVESTER
On Georgia:
We definitely want to go out on a good note. Georgia’s had our number the past couple years. They just keep rebuilding and reloading. Georgia’s always going to be a good football team, so we’re going to have to really be on our game when it comes to next Saturday.
DUKE NOSE TACKLE CHARLIE HATCHER
Being one of the defensive tackles, we came out wanting to stop the dives, and they were able to get some yards on dives on occasion, and we can’t let that happen. Then there were some pass plays and some outside running plays. You have to stop those big plays from happening by holding them to under three yards. We were able to do that on a lot of drives, but not every one of them, so it kind of hurt us.

Decision on the champ. is expected in 60 days. The trophy is still in the possesion of GT, the ACC who gave the trophy, not the NCAA( which doesn’t award ANY bowl trophies, conference trophies, etc.btw) has stated they will not ask for the trophy back. It has been removed from the trophy room and has been locked up pending the appeal result. The trophy will always remain in tech’s possession.

Probation, did you read the NCAA report? If you did you would have seen where what tech got in trouble for was, $300 in clothing bought and given to D. Thomas. I know you read the report so I’m not telling you anything when I say the clothes where bought by Calvin Booker, a graduate of tech the previous year, who was a football player at tech and to this day Thomas’s best friend. Calvin got a job with a sports marketing firm and wanted to do something nice for his friend. Thomas, whos parents haven’t been around since he as almost a baby, was raised by his Aunt and Uncle who didn’t have a lot of money. Have you ever bought something for your friend? Do you have friends? Oh and btw, when tech found out about it, they took the clothes from Thomas and GAVE them to the investigator. Wow , what a bunch of rule breakers. Maybe tech should disband the program!

“Georgia Tech’s 2009 All Crap Conference title resides in Athens because we clowned them on their own turf only a week before. It was their biggest season in nearly two decades and they were still big fat losers to the Dawgs. You don’t get any more owned than that.”

“Will the UGA/GT game be televised? I kinda remember that when you are put on probation by the NCAA for interferring with an investigation of improper benefits, then you are banned from TV for the period you are on PROBATION.”
Do you kinda not make the connection that if that was true Tech would not have been on TV many times this season. Either the TV ban is not enforced or you have brain damage, for which I feel sorry for you.

High Tech… I’d like to see a playoff as well but it is not likely to happen… The national champ used to be selected by sports writers before the bowl games…and they were always biased toward Notre Dame and schools in the North East… I think the BCS is pretty accurate on the whole but on any given day you can get beaten if you don’t play your best…. ask OK State and Oklahoma and Oregon and Clemson….
What you can’t do is say… we are great we beat #5 Clemson then say no one else deserves thie rating because…..

I think Tech can beat Georgia b/c Georgia wore those ugly unis for the Boise game. All the fallout over these unis caused them to drop them immediately afterwards, just like Tech dropped the WC jerseys(I didn’t drop them and I’m a Tech grad; I’ve seen alot of Tech unis since ‘69 and these jerseys’ numbers were not too light, and were in fact the same likeness as O’Leary’s satin gold numbers). Tech might want to wear white helmets for the Georgia game as a gimmick, along with the WC jerseys, making their upper body unis very light in color.

Probation, you have obviously not read one bit about the “major” infraction that Tech “committed”. If you would you might have an informed opinion. It’s already been mentioned, but what is missing is how the NCAA “investigator” went about questioning Thomas. He was a hack at best and an example of what is wrong with the NCAA. If that is standard protocol for the NCAA then I pity all student athletes.

HTR, they weren’t hard to read on ESPN3 on the computer at all. When Tech serves a shade of gold for unis, they don’t make mistakes ever. If they could just embrace the old gold again they wore when I was there. The last time they wore it was against Groh’s Virginia and they won, something they had not done against them in a long time. The old gold undoubtedly psyched them out since it was from the early 70’s, and the white helmets also. I think the players actually liked to wear those unis for the Virginia game.

“What would happen to the polls if Georgia Tech beats Georgia, Arkansas beats LSU, Georgia beats Alabama at the Dome? Who would play for the BCS trophy?”
Arkansas and LSU I think. They would be 1 lose teams, I think there is a provision for 3 teams from a conference to be in BCS bowls, if they have #1 and #2, and the conference champion is not one of those two.
maybe Stanford or OSU replaces LSU

I’m always amazed that grown men (and, presumably, a smattering of women, but we have no reliable demographic data) can act like a gaggle of kids on the playground when it comes to discussion about an impending game between the teams representing our state’s two most prestigious state universities.
Tech is a good football team. Their will present a substantial challenge for a very capable Georgia defense. Tech’s defense is another matter. If they play like they did against Clemson, and Georgia’s offense plays like it did against Kentucky, then the Jackets have a shot at the upset. If, on the other hand, Tech’s D plays like it did against Duke and Georgia’s offense plays like it did against Auburn, it could get ugly.
Here’s my take: both teams have had a little Jekyll and Hyde thing going on this year. Georgia played its best offensive game of the year against Auburn and its worst offensive game of the year the following week, against Kentucky. Tech played lights out against Clemson and sleepwalked through the Duke game. They will both come out motivated this Saturday–the Jackets perhaps more so, as they have something to prove after losing 10 of the last 11. Playing the law of averages, I suspect that Georgia will hit close to its average against a mediocre Tech D (which means about 400-420 yards total offense and around 31-34 points scored) and Tech will play the Dawgs tough, scoring points with the mobile QB and misdirection plays to allow Tech to exceed the 17.8 points per game the Dawgs have allowed–scoring, say, 24 points. That would give you a 31-24 Georgia win. This spread could be shifted by turnovers or special teams play. The game will be close at halftime, and Tech might even lead at that point, but Georgia should pull away in the second half as Grantham makes adjustments on D. He’s done a great job with that this year (note the Florida game, where the Gators were held to 32 second-half yards, and the Kentucky game, where the Wildcats got 8 total yards of offense after halftime).
That’s an attempt at a semi-scientific analysis. Fire away.
