Georgia Tech quoteboard

TEVIN WASHINGTON

On passes being open against 9-man front:

We had put it on the check. The pass I threw to Embry (Peeples), we had put in a check for that because last year when we played them, we saw how they were lining the safeties really wide and they were leaving the middle of the field wide open. We wanted to take advantage of that.

On responding to coach Paul Johnson’s challenge to take care of business:

I think we responded well. At times, it wasn’t always perfect, it wasn’t always a good at times, but the end result is we finished out strong and got the win. We got the result we came here for.

It’s like that every week but this week, there was more emphasis on taking care of business. We worked too hard all year, all offseason, to come here and not take care of business, not finish the way we want to.

On the first-down run to run out the clock:

Coach (Paul) Johnson just told me to get the first down. He was like, the sprint-out, there shouldn’t be anybody out there. You should be able to just sprint around the edge and get the first down.

On receivers making adjustments to make catches:

When they make an adjustment, it gets your confidence up. Guys go out there, make a play for you, you go out there and try to make a play for them.

EMBRY PEEPLES

On not having Orwin Smith:

It was a little different, because you normally have that power at that position that we usually get from Big O. We still just have to come out here and play the same like he was there.

On his race to the pilon for his touchdown run:

It was a little closer than I thought. I was thinking Roddy (Jones) was going to get the safety down and he kind of chipped him and he kind of stayed on his feet and stumbled up. It made it a little more difficult, but the end result is I got there. That’s all that matters.

JEREMIAH ATTAOCHU

On if it was difficult to get into the flow of the game after halftime:

Not really. I mean, football is what we do. We step on the field, it’s time to go. It doesn’t take long to go. Mentally, I was ready to go and physically, I felt like I was ready to go in, too. So I just went in relaxed. I didn’t try to be a savior or anything. l just went in to play my role on defense.

On the penalties extending drives:

That’s definitely a concern. The funny thing about it is, it’s an easy thing to fix. We know exactly what’s wrong. That’s an easy problem to fix. We’re definitely going to fix it, be more disciplined.

STEVEN SYLVESTER

On Georgia:

We definitely want to go out on a good note. Georgia’s had our number the past couple years. They just keep rebuilding and reloading. Georgia’s always going to be a good football team, so we’re going to have to really be on our game when it comes to next Saturday.

DUKE NOSE TACKLE CHARLIE HATCHER

Being one of the defensive tackles, we came out wanting to stop the dives, and they were able to get some yards on dives on occasion, and we can’t let that happen. Then there were some pass plays and some outside running plays. You have to stop those big plays from happening by holding them to under three yards. We were able to do that on a lot of drives, but not every one of them, so it kind of hurt us.

High Tech… excellent points… I think Tech will blitz (both run and pass) like crazy. Haven’t heard anything on Crowell’s condition… if we don’t it means he’s hurt..not sure what Grantham will do to stop the TO…. nothing worked last year… got better athletes this year. Murray looked awful against Kentucky after not missing against Auburn…Might look at the Duke game plan

Tech Versus UGA….Thanks. I will be interested in seeing what Grantham will do. Since both teams have a 3-4 defense, I wonder if it will give Tech an advantage for the offense to prepare against it. Murray is elusive. He is accurate when he is not hurried and he can run with the ball, too. I really didn’t see what Kentucky did to slow down Georgia other than be physical with them. I would flip over to CSS to watch during Tech/Duke time-outs.

Brick H…Grant Field does seem to give the Jackets a home field advantage, especially with ranked teams. Not sure what happened with VPISU other than mental mistakes and a huge Hokie quarterback.

Steve, from a UGA grad and a staunch Dawg fan, why don’t you just shut your mouth and quit embarrassing the true Dawg fans. Next week should be a tough battle for both teams and all your and anyone elses whining will do nothing for either team.

keep your zippers up and your pants up until you get back to athens. than you can urinate in your library and defecate anywhere you want.

gt has class and wants nothing to do with your defecating urinating fans.

no matter what uga accomplishes the whole world will know that even west virginia fans have more class than the dawgs.

maybe we need to let our fans know that we all need to bring plastic bags and poop scoopers to the game to take care of all the classless dawgs next week.

right now there are 8 teams with 1 loss or less. I see no need for a Playoff. I do see a need for a +1 most seasons. Drop Bowl alliances and if these 8 teams stay with 1 loss or less just match them in Bowls and no need for a playoff. A Playoff is too big of a Physical risk to the players and too long of a season. The MONEY for the Playoff games will be crazy. Travel and Tickets alone are not worth it.

We need our secondary to show up like they did for Clemson, a game that they were excited to play. I see no difference in this game than that one in regards to importance in the minds of our players and coaches, which bodes well for Tech. I do think that we practiced our passing a lot against Duke to get ready for UGA and if Tevin avoids the floaters, we will have great success again. Hopefully, this will open up the running game and allow us to kill clock as well. CPJ’s schemes have not been stopped by UGAy since he became our coach and I see no reason for that to change now.
I like Perkins being used as a big bruiser, we need him to pound the inside against UGAy’s linemen and backers to make them feel the pain. A few good hits and they will tuck their tails and start the whining again about cut blocks and how bad football hurts.
We know they will attempt to injure our skill players, a la the knee twist on Nesbitt in 09, so the best offense against that is to hit them hard and don’t stop until they give up. I foresee two ten minute Jacket drives this game, with lots of puppies crawling back to their doghouse.

GO JACKETS!!!

Why does there have to be 1 Best team? Unlike the NFL all the team don’t play in the same league. The Conference Champs are all that are needed and the Bowl games are what they were supposed to be…………..Fun and a reward for a good season. There are so many different Styles that don’t match up well, but that doesn’t mean 1 team is always better. To prove that you need a best 3 of 5. not just 1 game. The NCAA Bball tourney proves any team can win 1 game and not be the BEST team.

I think the reasons trolls like mutt fan Steve have to come over to a Tech board to talk smack is that
1) very few on a mutt forum are capable of forming coherent sentences
2) He knows that the game next week can easily go our way, so he has to get his smack talking in beforehand.
3) and last, but NOT least–he knows the mutts are gonna get theri a$$es handed to them by LSU, so it’s his last chance for now to talk about a team that the pups actually have a chance against

its not looking good for tech this year thats for sure. the talent level at tech will be exposed this weekend for sure. uga should win by 21 points but if they turn the ball over like they did yesterday it might be closer to 12 points. tech will have a problem scoring thats for sure and they cant defend worth a dang. uga could pass for over 400 yards or run for over 300..pick your poison tech.

I guess trolls like Steve come here because they know that whether WE beat them or not, they have virtually NO shot at beating LSU(barring LSU taking repeated knees on the UGA 1 yard line) so this is the last week they get to smack talk & actually feel like they might win the game they’re talking about
