Georgia Tech’s O. Smith may miss Duke game

Greetings-

Big news is A-back Orwin Smith was injured in the loss to Virginia Tech and may not play Saturday. Coach Paul Johnson made mention of the injury in response to a question about trying to get Smith more carries.

“Hard to get it to him when he’s over there with us (on the sideline),” Johnson said.

Johnson didn’t disclose the injury and said he didn’t think it was serious, “but if we had to play today, he probably couldn’t play.”

Johnson said Embry Peeples would likely start. Tony Zenon, Deon Hill and Robbie Godhigh might also get more snaps. In recent games, Roddy Jones, Peeples and Smith have been in a rotation. Monday, Johnson said, “I don’t think we’ve got any injuries for the next game. I mean, you’re always bumped and bruised after you come out of a game. We had a little extra time because it’s Thursday night, too.”

2. Linebackers Brandon Watts or Malcolm Munroe will likely start in place of Jeremiah Attaochu, Johnson said, depending on which package the defense starts out in. Attaochu will not play the first half of the Duke game as discipline for punching Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas in Thursday’s game.

3. With the goals of winning the ACC and going undefeated at home no longer possible, Johnson brought up to the team that only three Tech teams since 1956 have won 10 games. At 7-3, the Jackets can achieve that total by winning the final two regular-season games against Duke and Georgia and the bowl game. Playing for a better bowl is another motivation.

“If you want to keep position for a higher-pegged bowl game, then you need to win,” Johnson said.

4. Johnson on Duke: “I think Duke’s an improved team. They don’t have the wins to show for it, but I think they’re a better team than they were a year ago.”

5. With the B-back production not measuring up to the past standards with past Johnson teams, Johnson said coaches will look at the position and production from this season in the offseason and fully understand the nature of the lack of performance. He said he doesn’t think it’s necessarily the fault of B-backs David Sims and Preston Lyons.

“I haven’t seen any real gaping holes that they’ve failed had to run through,” he said.

Kind of thin. Apparently, Duke’s basketball team has a game of some import Tuesday that’s drawing a lot of attention.

Game stories from Duke’s loss to Virginia, from the Duke Chronicle and the Raleigh News & Observer.

Duke offensive tackle Kyle Hill, who started all 46 games he’d played in since 2008, has sustained a season-ending shoulder injury against UVa, per the school’s website. Tough way to go out.

Buzz is 11-0 in the Capital One Mascot Challenge, thanks in no small part, if I recall correctly, to the Tech marching band’s trumpet section, and is taking on Mike the Tiger from LSU this week. Michelle Hiskey “interviewed” Buzz and put together a first-person (first-bee?) story for the AJC.

Thanks for reading. I’ll have post-practice notes up this evening.

Write it down, he still hasn’t apologized to me for calling me an idiot……and after I was the first one on here to apologize for the (now questionable claim of) behavior of a Tech student.

HTRedneck I love dogs and I don’t like the UGA Uga VIII because of the bad breading. I like the American Bulldog that Mack Trucks use. It has more Pit and Longer Legs with a Leaner Middle. I do Chow, Akita, German Shepard Mixes. The best size and the right aggressiveness.

Supersize…I like Smokey, too. He looks just like one of Dad’s blueticks. If N.C. State would be honest about Tuffy, that would be cool, too. Tuffy’s not a wolf, by the way.

I know it seems like a minor incident to some of you but to my son it was both embarassing and very scary. He is still too young to understand that the combo of alcohol and stupidity would make an adult attack him because he is wearing a shirt for his favorite team. It sucks because now he won’t go see his sister perform which means my wife or other daughter have to stay home with him.

My closest group of friends include 3 Georgia grads and they all have had nothing but nice things to say about my daughter going to Tech. It seems like the hate that so many of you feel about the Ga Ga Tech rivalry is mostly one sided.

I do not know one person who thinks UGA fans are the worst in college football. Maybe I need to avoid the Tech blogs because comments like many of you make make me want to grill any guy who dates my daughter. If they said they frequent this blog I would probabaly toss them out of my house.

Smokey may be inbred too, but I doubt it. I think he’s just a good ole hound dog. Gotta love them. And I’m sure no school would ever have a real wolf for their live mascot.

American Bulldogs are cool and very strong. Not sure how well Uga conforms to the breed standard for English Bulldogs, but it is an accepted breed.

Tech Dad, you must not know many people from opposing schools who have been to Athens or seen how some of the dawg fans act on the road. Granted, not all are like that, but enough are to give virtually everybody a bad taste in their mouth.

Supersize…believe it or not, but NC State had a real wolf for a mascot a long time ago. However, wolves are very nervous animals and the crowds and their noise caused the mascot to have a heart attack and die.

A friend is making custom bird houses as a side job. Some UGA fans will like the Uga mascot dawg house. There is a Bama bird house and some others. Check the site http://www.atlantahaulitallinc.com you might want some of what he makes. I think he has some GT and local High School Bird houses too.

Well, if all these posts are true,
CPJ better coach.
GT better players.
GT plays a harder schedule than UGA
UGA is in the weakest conference in the land.
GT players are smarter.
UGA fans and players are thugs.

I think i’ll sell my 2 tickets to this match-up, obvious who the winners going to be.

I will tell you this. I attended the UGA v Bama game many years back with my Frat bro(Bama fan). That is the game where Zeier took over the starting job. We went to Dream Land BBQ before the game. I was a drunk butt and I threw rib bones at UGA fans after the game. A few weeks later I realized what it was to be a Fan and not a FANATIC. I felt bad once I sobered up. It was not even my team playing, but I was tired of how the UGA fans had me over the years. I was the BUTT. I don’t do that now, but I have received less than nice treatment at UGA games for a few years after that.

Only thing I didn’t see on these blogs was where GT’s 3-4 D led by Coach AG is so much better than UGA’s 3-4 D led by Coach Todd Grantham. I’m sure it’s listed on here I just overlooked it.

Observer…did you clock in? I see your shift begins at 9:00 pm and you’re 17 minutes late. Coach Grantham appears to have put together a heck of a 3-4 defense. The secondary is tough and the linebacker, Ogletree, is a beast. I expect a knock down drag out on the 26th.

Also, Observer, I like what I see from Coach Groh’s defense this year. Attaochu and Thomas are playmakers. There is always room for improvement, but I see improvement in many ways every game.

A red flag should have been thrown on Tech Dad from the moment that he said his daughter goes to Tech and he let his 8 yr old son wear a Georgia shirt to the Tech Clemson game…really?? What dumbass would put your kid in that situation?

I would never let one of my daughters wear a Tech shirt to the Ga/Auburn game…hell, I would never let my daughters go to Georgia!!
