Greetings-
Big news is A-back Orwin Smith was injured in the loss to Virginia Tech and may not play Saturday. Coach Paul Johnson made mention of the injury in response to a question about trying to get Smith more carries.
“Hard to get it to him when he’s over there with us (on the sideline),” Johnson said.
Johnson didn’t disclose the injury and said he didn’t think it was serious, “but if we had to play today, he probably couldn’t play.”
Johnson said Embry Peeples would likely start. Tony Zenon, Deon Hill and Robbie Godhigh might also get more snaps. In recent games, Roddy Jones, Peeples and Smith have been in a rotation. Monday, Johnson said, “I don’t think we’ve got any injuries for the next game. I mean, you’re always bumped and bruised after you come out of a game. We had a little extra time because it’s Thursday night, too.”
2. Linebackers Brandon Watts or Malcolm Munroe will likely start in place of Jeremiah Attaochu, Johnson said, depending on which package the defense starts out in. Attaochu will not play the first half of the Duke game as discipline for punching Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas in Thursday’s game.
3. With the goals of winning the ACC and going undefeated at home no longer possible, Johnson brought up to the team that only three Tech teams since 1956 have won 10 games. At 7-3, the Jackets can achieve that total by winning the final two regular-season games against Duke and Georgia and the bowl game. Playing for a better bowl is another motivation.
“If you want to keep position for a higher-pegged bowl game, then you need to win,” Johnson said.
4. Johnson on Duke: “I think Duke’s an improved team. They don’t have the wins to show for it, but I think they’re a better team than they were a year ago.”
5. With the B-back production not measuring up to the past standards with past Johnson teams, Johnson said coaches will look at the position and production from this season in the offseason and fully understand the nature of the lack of performance. He said he doesn’t think it’s necessarily the fault of B-backs David Sims and Preston Lyons.
“I haven’t seen any real gaping holes that they’ve failed had to run through,” he said.

Kind of thin. Apparently, Duke’s basketball team has a game of some import Tuesday that’s drawing a lot of attention.
Game stories from Duke’s loss to Virginia, from the Duke Chronicle and the Raleigh News & Observer.
Duke offensive tackle Kyle Hill, who started all 46 games he’d played in since 2008, has sustained a season-ending shoulder injury against UVa, per the school’s website. Tough way to go out.
Buzz is 11-0 in the Capital One Mascot Challenge, thanks in no small part, if I recall correctly, to the Tech marching band’s trumpet section, and is taking on Mike the Tiger from LSU this week. Michelle Hiskey “interviewed” Buzz and put together a first-person (first-bee?) story for the AJC.
Thanks for reading. I’ll have post-practice notes up this evening.

Supersize…Gailey would have trounced FSU at the end of his tenure but GT didn’t play them when FSU SUCKED. Before, that FSU had some really good teams. I realize that CPJ has a 10 win season but that was overshadowed by the UGA beating and the absolutely horrid LSU trouncing. I just don’t see CPJ getting it done. If you can’t beat your rival and go 0-3 in bowl games…you’re just not getting it done. Any…HELL yes I would get Ralph. His offense with Little Joe was much better than this triple option trash that I see and a hell of alot more exciting to watch. Not to mention we would have a chance at some real talent and not the bottom of the barrel which is what we get.

You nerds can rationalize anything……what will the excuse be when you lose to UGA again? I would think some of you may understand statistics and probabilities (A She She record in BCS games is not something you have to makeup but rather lookup)….but alas put back on those yellow glasses and drink the yellow koolaid….of course made from the yellow snow.

SPDGI….only pointing out the facts….however again at least I commented on football in my posta…which you haven’t done that I have seen. Town Crier..the excuse would be that UGA is better coached and has a better team. What other logical excuse could GT have. However, if GT wins what will be UGA’s excuse? That is what I want to hear from you about! Let me hear it…….

If they win we will say that is your 1 win for the next 10 years. Or we could just blame the whole game on 1 call as many of the tek fans have done when discussing the Hokie loss.

Under Gailey, GT lost in 2002 to an FSU team that went 9-5 overall and in 2003 to an FSU team that went 10-3 overall, This means that, excluding the head to head – FSU was 17-8 in the 2 years they beat GT.
Under CPJ, GT won in 2008 over an FSU team that went 9-4 overall and in 2009 over a team that went 7-6 overall – meaning excluding the head to head FSU was 16-8.

Town Crier….is it that you need additional time to find an excuse? Let’s face it you can find an excuse and so can GT if they lose. The problem is there is only one fact…if GT wins then GT is a better football team than UGA….period. Now you can go mull that thought over for a little while because it would be the truth.

Look UGA has better players and those playing on Sunday bear this out…..I thought Johnson did a wonderful job at Georgia Southern and would do a good job with better players. Problem is the so called better players are hesitant to go to tek as they are not as prepared to move to next level. Don’t forget that a high quality cb will not be tested in practice as they seldom will run passing drills. This leaves Saturday afternoon as being thrown out there with little preperation in practice (and no the scout team flinging it around is not the same as another team).

Paul…again I am stating there wasn’t that much difference. I sure as hell am not saying that we should get Gailey back as a coach. Just get a coach….like Ralph Friedgen. This experiment is over and GT will come to see that next year and the next and the next unless a move is made NOW. What school in D1 is having success with the TO. Sure, they are having more success than they did but not real success like a top 10 team, BCS invites in bowl games, or bowl victories against quality opponents. It just doesn’t work at this level and CPJ is proving that. Time to move on!

Fair enough there S&B (Tech nerd). UGA has been the better team throughout history in head to head vs. tek. Also 9 out of 10 have gone UGA’s way so I guess they have a pretty good team this last decade or tek is territble. Which one?

Amazing video of a high school player from Columbia TN who kicks the ball dead straight 75-80 yards in the air. He was successful on 54 of 54 attempts this season….100%. Now he needs a college team.

Town Crier…UGA is a football factory and that is just the way it is. They will always get better football players over GT. Not one person on here is disputing that! The question is how does GT overcome the lack of talent that it can get? The only answer is to have better coaching. Can coaching overcome the lack of talent? So far no. That is why I am calling for a NEW coach at GT. Will that be the answer to GT’s woes? I don’t know, but why wait around to see if CPJ can get it done. I say make a move to Ralph Friedgen or someone else.

We need Orwin to get well, he is a player.
If the team thinks of Duke like they did about Va and Miami, they can look forward to the weed eater bowl. Just saying the level of effort seems to decrease the lower a team’s ranking appears to be. That is why we aren’t in the hunt for the ACC championship. Could say it is the coaches fault, but the players are the ones that have to get fired up.
So if you want a decent bowl trip guys, you better get after the Dukies or they will smack you upside your head and it will be the end of the 4th quarter before you realize it!!
So go after them just like you did the Tigers because they stand in your way of having a very good season and a mediocre one. Don’t be last years team!!!

GTJOE….you’re an idiot. CPJ is doing a great job at everything except special teams. ESPN compared our running back recruits to a horse stable. We beat number 5 Climpson, and 1 player caused us to lose to #10 vpisu. Special teams lost the game for us against Thug U. There is no viable excuse for losing at uva. I’d say that we’re doing alright. He needs to step on discipline on the field. Yes, Attaochu is a thug…honestly I’m hopin the ACC comes down hard on him and there is a petition starting around campus to have his scholarship revoked. So learn what you’re talking about before you speak. Also, to all you mutts fans…you’re competing in a dying conference. Come on, I mean aside from LSU and Alabama there aren’t any great teams in the SEC this year. Arkansas will likely get CRUSHED by LSU and their over inflated rank will drop. I mean aside from Boise State and South Carolina who has Georgia played of quality….the answer is no one except an over inflated Auburn. I’d recommend ya’ll get your mess together before coming at us or you may wind up sore right before getting booty raped by LSU in the SEC championships.
