Georgia Tech’s Attaochu suspended half-game

Georgia Tech outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu will sit out the first half of the Yellow Jackets’ game against Duke on Saturday as punishment for throwing a punch at Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas last Thursday.

Tech coach Paul Johnson made the decision after reviewing the game video. He said he decided on a half-game suspension as that would have been the punishment had he been thrown out of the game and because the strike was out of character for Attaochu. Johnson said he gave Attaochu additional disciplinary measures that are between him and Attaochu.

“It’s out of character for him,” Johnson said. “Certainly, that’s not his M.O., and that’s why it’s not more. But I think that certainly, we don’t condone that and I know he’s learned his lesson, but there still needs to be something. You have to pay a price when you mess up.”

Johnson said Attaochu, whose strike of Thomas drew a personal foul penalty and was a momentum-changing play in the Hokies’ 37-26 victory that dropped the Jackets out of ACC title contention, was embarrassed and sorry for his action.

Also, Attaochu will not face any more discipline from the ACC.

Also, Johnson said he didn’t see the punch, so he didn’t know what had happened. he thought the flag was for Thomas being thrown to the ground after the whistle.

TP Jones – the reason is that the links you’re posting are extremely vulgar. sending readers there isn’t so different from copy and pasting the content of those links into the blog.

The Jackets will need Attaochu for the UGA game. He’s a playmaker like Jemea Thomas. Go Jackets!

Ken you should do a story about fan obsession. Have you seen the firepauljohnson site started by that uga sociopath? Does anyone think it’s alright to harass high school athletes until told to stop?

he should have been ejected from that game.
The ACC should suspend him for a FULL game.

I am nut sure PAul Johnson or Radacovich(sic) understand the term “do the right thing”.

OJF If you and his coach think your boy is good enough, 6′5″ & 275# is pretty good size for a high school footballer. He sounds like he’s got the frame to add 20-25# of muscle without too much problem. Ask his head coach to send film of him to GT. It’s not unheard of and has been known to work. Just saying.

If head injuries are being taken so seriously by the NCAA and the Officials from each conference then a PUNCH TO THE HEAD deserves a full one-game rip just like that clean hit from TJ McDonald, the USCw safety on that Stanford WR 2-weeks ago.

Blows to head are closely monitored with film review after the fact by Conference honchos, but PUNCHES TO THE HEAD aren’t even looked at and the discipline is left up to the individual schools.

Do you not see the hypocrisy in that?

There’s no way that the ACC League office can tell what damage is done to the VT player that receives the punch, so they SHOULD treat it like any other “blow to head” that warrants a one-game rip.

Horrible use of authority by the ACC League Office to sit back and do nothing!

Smokescreen for CPJ I think he should suspend the triple option for a half and the 3-4
I think he should, suspend that crazy recruiting rule for half a season. I think CPJ should do extra laps for not being flexible and not recruiting a real kicker.I think GT Recruiting COOR
should do extra push ups for not being able to close on major prospects!

We’ll worry about that when a Tech player DOES test positive.

There seems to be an unusual level of timidity among some people in Georgia. It would help if people would visit some universities in the Philadelphia area that I am familiar with to get a better feel for urban environments to help fight this fear. I’d recommend Temple, Drexel, Rutgers-Camden and Widener Universities.

CPJ continues to turn the jackets into the shame of the ACC. We are already known as the dirtiest team in the conference and with the thug like antics that are pileing up this season it is obvious things will only get worse. I don’t understand why other fans are so willing to sacrifice Tech’s reputation and embrace this criminal mentality.

It would be bad enough that we are the dirtiest team in the acc if we had something to show for it but cheating and trying to end other players careers and still being irrelevant is pointless.

I was working in Cherry Hill, and a friend of mine and I decided to check out their MBA program. We took the high speed line to the stop at the Camden campus, across the street from the stop. When we got up to ground level and looked across the street to the campus I said, “Joe, you make a run for it and I’ll cover you.”

Heck – I get the feeling that some of the people posting about how dangerous the area around GT is would get terrified at Villanova or Swarthmore.

Attaochu should be suspended for the rest of the season. Half a game is a slap on the wrist. That kind of play is typical of UGAG, Miami and FSU not GT! You want to play like that then transfer to one of the thug U’s.
