Georgia Tech back in polls

After dropping out of both polls following its loss to Miami last Saturday, Georgia Tech re-appeared Sunday. Following their upset of No. 5 Clemson Saturday night, the Yellow Jackets were ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press writers poll and No. 23 in the USA Today coaches poll.

By dropping their first game of the season, the Tigers fell from No. 6 to No. 11 in the AP poll and from No. 6 to No. 12 in the coaches poll. Virginia Tech, which Tech will play next in two Thursdays at Bobby Dodd Stadium is No. 12 in the writers poll and No. 11 in the coaches poll.

Maybe poll rankings don’t mean much, but I’m glad we’re back in. Wonder what Coach Johnson’s game plan is for Virginia Tech? Like Clemson, they’re ranked higher than GT.

I think PJ will use the game plan he always uses. Score more points than they do.

After beating VT and finishing off the little puppies, we’ll have salvaged out season and a BCS bowl is still a possibility.

We did get one commitment this weekend from a to p 100 player. It was for women’s basketball and not football though.

We Own UGA? Glad we won but I don’t think we own UGA. I think we need to win a game or two against them before we start bragging!

No new game plan: run the option, play stellar in the secondary and limit turnovers. if we can do that
then we will win. No ifs ands or buts.

Good win over the Tigers, GT!! Took them to the wood shed big time. Both UGA and GT beat teams wearing orange (hate that color!). Dawg fan here and hope you guys win out so we can meet next month with both teams ranked. Should be a fun game!!! Congrats on a great win.

I wish our football team wasn’t rated last in the ACC academically though.

That’s really an embarrassment for Tech.

Nice try, Old Gold (mutt fan).

GT still has one of the top academic programs in the world. Every engineering major is top 10 and Management is right behind of Emory and ahead of UGA.

There’s a difference between academics and graduation rates (calculated by the NCAAA). Honestly, it’s just more difficult to graduate from GT when you can’t major in Recreation & Leisure Studies, Housing, or Turf Management.

Old Gold, not an accurate statement, you sound like a Dawg fan…The issue is graduation rates not academics and the timeframe is 10 years ago. Different than liberal arts schools, more difficult. Still,it must be a priority and get better no doubt.

However, the real shame is when you have underwater basket weaving as a degree option and still only graduate 65%…

The Hokies are 1 of 3 ACC teams that have a better overall record against us—FSU and surprisingly UVA are the other two. We need to cut into that lead. I just hope we play loose and keep opening things up. I hope CAG stays aggressive with the blitz against VPI and CPJ puts in more short pass plays. Also, have TW work on seeing the field—his INT was a short pass while SH was wide open on the long ball. Lately he seems to stare at his primary receiver. He did a much better job throwing last night and hopefully getting a record rushing by a QB and the big win will improve his confidence.

Yeah the tek football players are so much smarter, LOL. Both schools recruit the same players and most can’t spell CAT if you spot them CA. There are exceptions to the rule but let’s not overjoy ourselves with stating football players are smarter and one university vs. one institute.

You will find that the graduation rate for all students will also rank at the bottom of the ACC. That is because Tech is a harder school than the others. Most graduate almost everyone who enters, including Duke, and Tech makes you earn a degree. Tech ’s overall graduation rate is now 80%, but it was closer to 67% in the past.

Don’t worry, they will drop back out by this time next weekend. Oh and if you missed it Georgia is ranked 18th in the AP and 20th in the Coaches Poll. After losing to Tech, Clemson shouldn’t even be in the Top 20.

Robert, Give me a break. Wake Forest and UNC are just as hard of schools to get into and just as hard and the graduation rate is better. Maybe Tech is losing all their students that can graduate to other Universities because they fear for their life down there.

TBTS, if you are going to comment on this blog, at least do your homework. Tech doesn’t play next weekend, so no chance of dropping out. I know your team plays the fearsome New Mexico State so they should hold their ranking.

Clemson did crush Auburn. If Auburn beats UGA, what does that say about UGA and the SEC. Like CPJ said, their are only a very few teams that can expect to win every week. Others must play the games.

Anon, I know they don’t play. When teams behind them or teams that barely aren’t in win, they will drop them down. And then they will drop further down when they play Virginia Tech. Oh, and we will beat the heXX out of New Mexico State, just like Tech did against mighty Kansas, Middle Tennessee State, Maryland, Western Carolina and NC State.

If we can play at the same level as last night, we’ll easily beat VPI. Then, don’t snooze at Duke and we’re in the Championship game. UVA has MD, FSU and VPI still on their schedule. I doubt they can run the table—if they do, then they deserve to be Coastal champions.

The ACC sucks and what did they do, add 2 more sucking football schools in Pitt and Syracuse. It’s a basketball conference. While the SEC adds Texas A & M the ACC adds basketball schools. My the time its over, Virginia Tech will probably move to the SEC to go with Missouri and either Florida State or Clemson.

But you have all the 5 star dream team… You should be one of the teams that just has to show up to win, but you aren’t and it just kills you.

Anon, Vanderbilt would kick Tech’s butt. I don’t believe I have ever seen such an easy schedule than what Tech has. While UGA opened the year against 2 Top 10 schools, Tech is over there playing before 25,000 against HS teams. I doubt Tech could beat Ole Miss. Ole Miss would be conference champions playing teams like Miami, Virginia, Duke, UNC, and Tech.

All of the SEC if in either conference of the ACC would be their division champ, that’s how bad the ACC is. That’s why the SEC has all the Championships and the ACC plays in a half empty stadium in Miami each year. I know the Orange Bowl will be so glad to get out of that ACC commitment.

Anon,
Because they are the only schools that have “REAL” stadiums (seating more than 50K) and COULD benefit in being in the superior conference in the NCAA.
Have you ever thought why the Chick Fil A bowl gets the # 2 ACC team and the #6 SEC team? (behind BCS, Sugar, Capital One, Cotton, Outback). It’s because they want it to be a close game, which didn’t happen when Tech lost to a 7-5 LSU team .

Auburn would not be first in the Coastal division of the ACC. Stop comparing teams if you don’t know what you are talking about.

Tech can’t beat UGA. That’s why they do all the Clemson beat Auburn, we beat Clemson and if Auburn beats UGA then we are the best. NOPE, because you and that HS offense can’t win against UGA. God, Georgia had to beat Tech last year to get to a bowl game, and did it with ease.

If UGA gets to the SEC game, LSU or Alabama will crush them. I guess that means they are on the same level as all those other lesser schools. PS; Tech beat Vandy and Miss State recently.

I don’t compare teams by who they beat or didn’t beat. It just always seems to be a dawg fan that tries to figure it out by point differential. I don’t know if you watched the game last year, but UGA definitely didn’t have it easy. They won, period. CPJ is 1-2 against UGA so he has won against UGA so get off your high horse and hope that UGA can get through the next 3 games before Tech.

Anon, you must REALLY be a Tech nerd. I have tried and tried to yank your chain and you just CANNOT give a good come back. God, you are talking about Tech beating Miss. State and Vandy two years ago? God, please.

I hope you know I have just been trying to get a comeback from you. Just all in good fun.
2 nephews and a brother in law that graduated from Tech. Great school. Good luck the rest of the way, although I hope Tech can put up a better effort against UGA this year. They will probably catch UGA on a 9 game winning streak so CPJ better do something. He could be on the hot seat if Tech doesn’t finish strong. Funny thing, just six weeks ago we were talking about Richt being on the hot seat.

See ya.
