ACC confirms offsides penalty

The ACC confirmed Sunday that Clemson defensive tackle Rennie Moore was offsides on a goal-line play in the third quarter of Georgia Tech’s 31-17 win over the Tigers Saturday. On the play, Moore split two Tech linemen and forced and recovered a fumble of quarterback Tevin Washington, ending the Yellow Jackets’ drive at the Clemson 3-yard line.

Replays indicated that Moore had entered the neutral zone prior to the snap, but no call was made on the play. Tech coach Paul Johnson said “I can’t wait to see the film because I’m pretty sure the guy was offsides down on the goal line when we fumbled the ball.”

An offsides could would have permitted Tech to repeat third down inside the 1-yard line. A touchdown would have given the Jackets a 38-10 lead with about 3:20 to play in the third quarter. Instead, Clemson took the next possession 97 yards for a touchdown to draw the score to 31-17, which held up as the final score.

Washington said it was an offsides call in his opinion.

In the game, Clemson was penalized five times for 30 yards. Tech was penalized four times for 23 yards.

Along those logical lines then the insects will win one of the next ten against UGA. Aren’t statistics just wonderful along with trend analysis?

Sounds like old TD can’t handle the reality of GT taking the national stage again

No crying….just stating the facts. Not everyone gets to play in a pushover conference like yourselves. There are actually multiple teams in the league that can win the NC. Not sure anyone in your league can actually win a BCS game. Does not happen too often and when you go out of conference in the postseason the results aren’t too good now are they?

National stage? Now that’s rich. When was your last championship in football? Have you won the All Cupcake Conference lately?

JD- I never like to round robin how teams play one another- I agree if UGA could look past Tech if they make the championship game could be ours to take- I don’t see USC getting by Ark- I really think that is what happend two years ago when Tech looked past UGA- and then CPJ made his worderful quote which mutt nation likes to say- “bigger fish to fry” for me I say throw Hot sauce on every fish and eat the one that is front of you- VT is our next fish.

Lose two games to unranked teams and beat an overrated team and you are on national stage? Last I checked you were still ranked below big brother who runs the state. Oh I know you will say “This is our year” just like you babble every other year. But you know what in the end you end up losing every year except one out of ten. Hope springs eternal for a win against big brother doesn’t it?

Nice win nerds. It is what it is though, just another win against an ACC team. Want a cookie? Not as great a win over an SEC powerhouse in Florida. Nighty nerds, gotta be up early for the 1st shift at the QT in the morn.—Im pretty sure a win over a #5 ACC team> a lose to a #5 MW team like Boise State. Esp. When UGA was their BIGGEST game of the year.
Cant wait till Clemson POUNDS usc, and fsu DESTROYS uf, and of course our win over you nad licking imbreads.

Tech wins 31-17 and they are upset over a missed offsides penalty/fumble? Paul Johnson is an a-hole. How about DJ Howard’s fumple in the first quarter? His elbow hit the ground before the ball came out and you don’t hear Clemson fans whining.
Tech needs to get to Charlotte and we beat Wake and NC State then we’ll see.

Billy Mac…Watching a television helps to see if it was a fumble or not. Listening to the radio, while you’re minding your sheep doesn’t count

It was a horrible (lack of a) call. I was going to be real mad if we lost that game by a touchdown.

So the score was actually 38-17. Not bad over the #5 team in the country. I can’t wait for some juicy
Dawg Meat !!! And give me some more Sims up the middle and some more HIGH SCHOOL OFFENSE. I was releived to see that Groh has found a high school defense to go with the Tech high school offense.

Actually, the off-sides was very smart move by Clemson. They had nothing to lose but a few inches. Very smart . The doofus refs need to be fired.

Well, what is the ACC going to do about this oversight? Are they going to discipline the officials looking down the line of scrimmage? Is this stuff going to keep happening, or are we going to get officials that actually know the rules and can see the play?
