The ACC confirmed Sunday that Clemson defensive tackle Rennie Moore was offsides on a goal-line play in the third quarter of Georgia Tech’s 31-17 win over the Tigers Saturday. On the play, Moore split two Tech linemen and forced and recovered a fumble of quarterback Tevin Washington, ending the Yellow Jackets’ drive at the Clemson 3-yard line.
Replays indicated that Moore had entered the neutral zone prior to the snap, but no call was made on the play. Tech coach Paul Johnson said “I can’t wait to see the film because I’m pretty sure the guy was offsides down on the goal line when we fumbled the ball.”
An offsides could would have permitted Tech to repeat third down inside the 1-yard line. A touchdown would have given the Jackets a 38-10 lead with about 3:20 to play in the third quarter. Instead, Clemson took the next possession 97 yards for a touchdown to draw the score to 31-17, which held up as the final score.
Washington said it was an offsides call in his opinion.
In the game, Clemson was penalized five times for 30 yards. Tech was penalized four times for 23 yards.

Virtually every close call in the game, those that came under review and those that were not, were made in Clemson’s favor. Thus Tech had the disadvantage on the reviews and replays.
Was it inept officiating? If not, then what was it..hmmm???
It was obvious.

Seems like every questionable call goes against GT. Really excited about the defensive effort against CU. We knew the offense could do the job if the execution improved. But a defense that started the season looking shaky against the run sure looked 200% better agsinst CU.

Ken, You have to watch the 4 minute mark of the second quarter. The line judge at the top of the screen marks the spot then looks over his shoulder at the marker then shifts his foot back about 4 to 6 inches. They brought out the sticks to measure, and you guessed it we missed the first down by a shifty foot. it didn’t matter because we made the first down on the next play. My guess it is the same line judge that missed the off sides. He must have had a bet on the game. This is just too obvious.

The ACC is notoriously lacking in the referee department. This is just another in a LOOOONNNNGGG line of ridiculously blown calls in games. It’s just comedy at this point. The ACC will continue to be the laughing stock of CFB as long as the refs continue their obvious blown calls and the scheduling continues to suck (scheduling big conf games just after national scale out of conference games). The SEC and other conferences never do these types of things and yet we wonder why the ACC is just referred to as just a basketball conference. The ACC will never be big time until it recognizes that football is THE bread-winner.

Bad officiating everywhere. Watched the rest of the Southern Cal – Stanford game on ESPN3 after the Tech game was over. USCw got robbed at the end of regulation. With time running out, the ball carrier raced for the sidelines and made it out of bounds with one second still on the clock, which would have given USC a shot at winning the game in regulation with a field goal. That’s a difficult call to make on the field with the speed of the game being what it is. I don’t fault the refs there. But the replay clearly showed the ball carrier completely out of bounds with one second still on the board. Two different camera angles and numerous replays proved it. After a long review by the officials, the call on the field stood, and they went to overtime with USC ultimately losing the game. The official explanation was that USCw didn’t call time out before time expired, but that’s a moot point since the clock automatically stops anyway when a ball carrier goes out of bounds, right?
The only conclusion I can come to is that the powers-that-be didn’t want a potential BCS national championship team going down to an unranked team at this point in the season. It’s bad for future television ratings, bad for business. It’s possible they didn’t want Clemson going down to an unranked team, either. Bad for television ratings, bad for the ACC. But that’s just speculation…

I’m just glad the call didn’t have a serious impact on the game. It was horrible. The ACC really needs to improve its officiating.

You boys gotta be happy.
Who saw THAT coming?
The thing about the TO, if the D-line for the opponent has size and discipline(like Miami), it can be stopped. Clemson was as clueless as anything I have ever seen.
That being said, your QB was terrific and it sure helped with their QB and their receiver not being on the same page on the corner route after the interception. Huge turnaround
Virginia Tech has good discipline on defense but offensively, I don’t know if they can keep up.
Our game will be a war. discuss later
Congrats

I would like to hear what the refs have to say about the call. I know this is highly unusual, but that was the most obvious bad call I’ve ever seen. Something more than an acknowledgement must be made.

Sounds a like lot some of the Florida faithful after the UGA-FL. game. Referees very seldom determine the outcome of a game. Tech. won easily which proves the point. There are blown calls in each and every game played. Those referees believe it or not are human, and have to make split decisions, which sometimes they miss due to various situations. Tech. won and that is all that should matter. The referees didn’t cost them the game. Florida lost and the refs. didn’t cost them the game either. Doo Doo happens as they say. Just celebrate the win and get ready for the next opponent. Clemson is gone now, and that is history. Your next opponent doesn’t care that the ref. blew a call or two in your game with Clemson.

All the dawg fans trolling are just jealous because they lost to their top 5 team-Boise and we beat our top 5 team-Clemson. Even if clem was over-rated, tech fans don’t provide the rankings. Some say that boise is over-rated.

Everyone should take a look at the still photo making the rounds about this play and you’ll see how truly bad the call was. To make matters worse, the photo also clearly shows the Line Judge staring straight at the play so either his eyes were closed, he was a Clemson alum, or he had a wager on the game because ther was no way he could have legitimately missed this obvious call.

LowCountry- In the USC game, the ball carrier got out of bounds with 1 second left, but his knee touched inbounds before he got to the sidelines. That’s why the clock kept running and there was no way the USC sidelines could get a timeout called in that split second since they have to get the attention of an official.
DawinLex- hope we’re both 9-2 and it’s a great game. Of course, I’m polling for Tech.

Lots of research here, looks like someone struck a sensitive area in dawgland.
OK here is some more research.
uga’s 5-1 in SEC. Those 5 wins came against teams with 4-22 conference records. Those 4 wins amongst those 5 teams came against the teams with winless conference records.
So we have to listen to the constant blather about the mighty tough SEC and their horrific schedules. OK Bama and LSU are monsters, after that, the schedule lays out promise for a half way decent team to get bowl eligible blindfolded.
Good luck with New Mexico state

@ Just saying- I think your figures are wrong- you are missing about 8 wins on the teams Tech beat- Teams Tech beat 25-32 and Teams Tech lost to 9-7. Unless I missed something here- I could be wrong- although that would be the first time today. Take a look. Bottom line teams play who are on the schedule we have no control on what other teams do except in the game they play us- same with mutt nation- very soft schedule- and the true fans know this- True Tech Fans thought UVA would be a difficult game and the L says it all- Miami if you break that game down-yes our offense did nothing- no rythmn that game but the ST unit cost us- bottom line though Tech has VT next- get the rest boys been a long schedule and the rest will be good for the boys and then another short break after the VT game-

tech’s pass defense was made better by the pressure on the QB. Only miss was that crossing pattern with yards after catch. If we had more pressure on that play, the QB would not have had time to wait for the move.

Great comeback for the Jackets after that obvious blunder by the 2 line judges, then Clemson driving 97 yards.
Hard not to think “something’s going on” with those 2 refs seeing how blatantly bad it was.
DawginLex …. I don’t know about you, but to me it appears that GA is playing on borrowed time a bit. There isn’t a team in their 5-game SEC win streak even close to good, and the Dawgs are squeaking by. Just Win Baby, I know (I’m a Raider fan too), but they can’t keep playing with fire and expect to finish 10-2.

GT Fan- I think the only game UGA can afford to lose is New Mexico State. That wouldn’t affect the sec east or the big game at the end. Unfortunately, that won’t happen unless the bus doesn’t make it to Sanford Stadium. Auburn will be their biggest test before Tech in Atlanta and if Tech from the Clemson game shows up, UGA might have a long ride home.

Florida not exactly a pushover this year even if they have 4 losses. 2 losses were against the top two teams (head and shoulders above anyone except Oklahoma perhaps) in the country. Other 2 losses were against ranked teams. Florida has a brutal schedule this year.
