The ACC confirmed Sunday that Clemson defensive tackle Rennie Moore was offsides on a goal-line play in the third quarter of Georgia Tech’s 31-17 win over the Tigers Saturday. On the play, Moore split two Tech linemen and forced and recovered a fumble of quarterback Tevin Washington, ending the Yellow Jackets’ drive at the Clemson 3-yard line.
Replays indicated that Moore had entered the neutral zone prior to the snap, but no call was made on the play. Tech coach Paul Johnson said “I can’t wait to see the film because I’m pretty sure the guy was offsides down on the goal line when we fumbled the ball.”
An offsides could would have permitted Tech to repeat third down inside the 1-yard line. A touchdown would have given the Jackets a 38-10 lead with about 3:20 to play in the third quarter. Instead, Clemson took the next possession 97 yards for a touchdown to draw the score to 31-17, which held up as the final score.
Washington said it was an offsides call in his opinion.
In the game, Clemson was penalized five times for 30 yards. Tech was penalized four times for 23 yards.

Don’t you love it when country comes to town and expects to partaaaayyy in the big city after their d_mbas_ players beat the stuffing out of Tech? Tech kicked the stuffing out of Clempson and Auburn the last time their red neck fans came to town. It’s gonna be nice to send the leg humpers and their fat, drunk wives home whining in a few weeks. You just knew all the Clempson grads had this day marked on the calendar and had a bunch of hotel rooms rented for all their cousins. Damn, that was a sweet victory.
I was at the game and from midfield seats, I could not see the offsides, so I am officially changing the score to 38-17. It is now the law of the land.

What year are you referring to as “beating the leg humpers”? 1 out of the last 10 so choose carefully. What do the Tech wives look like? Are there any women on campus at North Avenue? Do they really serve curry in the stands in an attempt to inflate attendance figures?

Tampa Gator, I was surprised that you went with Brantley the whole game, he clearly was hampered and ineffective-at one point I think he had 10 incompletions in a row. I thought you had a couple of good freshmen, why do the coaches not let them play. Also, what is your take on the Muschamp-Weis experiment. Am I reading too much into Weis in pressbox and Muschamp on field. It just appeared that Muschamp was grinding his teeth on every incomplete pass.

Plain and simple !! Piss poor officiating. There is no excuse for missing that call. The officials could have changed the whole outcome of the game by letting the fumble call stand. I think that they should be fined in cases like this. They are paid good to do their job !! Do it right or be replaced.

Chevrev, I think the way it usually works is that all of the officiating crews are graded and only the best get the plum assignments like championship games and neutral assignment games, so hopefully these two officials will be dinged in their job ratings. I would also think in comes into play when deciding to renew for the next year. At least I hope so.

Two things after reading through:
1) Jimmy is an obvious troll and is trying to get a rise out of Tech fans. Look carefully at the self-deprecation — how this is lost on some of you is beyond me. Stop responding to him, he is not serious and may not even be a UGA fan.
2) 5150 — Go back and look at the game logs. The fumble returned for a touchdown, while a huge blown call, was essentially neutralized because the Jackets scored a TD on that drive on 4th down. I don’t know why, on a play like that, they don’t call it a fumble on the field because they can review and overturn, but if it’s the other way you can’t give a TD back to the defensive team. Makes no logical sense.
That one came out in the wash though.

Agree with everyone the no-call on offsides was very bad.
However over a full season, the bad calls or missed calls by refs even out. Although, this one could have been a game changer, lucky for the Jackets it was not. Kudos to the GT players for holding their poise and winning the game.

Uh Florida isn’t exactly a “powerhouse” this year, Dawg fans. Your weak SEC schedule may allow you to get to the SEC championship game this year should South Carolina stumble. If so, it will only allow your team to get humiliated and exposed for the mediocre team that they are by either LSU or Alabama.

Talking about celebrating in Atlanta- when I was a student at Tech, one fall Tuesday two carloads of folks from Athens pulled up outside Smith Dorm and wanted to know where to party. One of them had just turned 18 (or 21 or whatever) that day and they had driven to Atlanta and rented hotel rooms and were ready to get down. They looked kind of sheepish when I told them it was Election Day and all bars were closed.

Not sure you should call it a ‘fumble’. Watch the replay, the Clemson player basically took the snap and Tevin couldn’t wrestle it away from him. That shows how offsides he was.

Stinger 2……..I have heard that all my life, “bad calls and missed calls” even out over the course of the season. It has been repeated so often people take it as gospel. Nothing can be further from the truth. Poor or mediocre teams get bad calls and they never catch up. They just continue to happen all season long. Just the opposite for good and great teams. They get the majority of the breaks and just keep truck’in along. Thats how it really works!
