Attaochu, Drummond sit out again for Georgia Tech

After the final practice of the week, Georgia Tech linebackers Jeremiah Attaochu and Daniel Drummond remained questionable Thursday for Saturday’s game against Maryland. The team also downgraded backup linebacker Brandon Watts from questionable to out.

None of the three practiced Thursday, their fourth consecutive missed practice.

Stephen CC – I guess I’m losing it. I used to watch those guys play. My memory is not so good that I remember the exact defense Georgia Tech played then, but he must have been one of those hybrids. He was a great LB in the NFL.

I think CPJ should give the Fridge a sideline pass (our side of course)

Yes, Delbert D., he was a great player and fun to watch. And even though at the time I thought the Black Watch was kind of gimmicky, it did instill pride in our defense. I would love to see us get some pride and swagger back on defense again. If we can do that along with our offense, wow. Go Jackets!!!

I only ask that if Tech comes out in new uniforms, helmets, or whatever, that the players play the game to the highest tradtions of Georgia Tech. Have fun but do not lose your identity like I have seen some schools do in recent years.

Awesome video ADS, great find. They said at the end, the GT player of the game was Calvin Tiggle…a name I’m not sure I remember at all. I can’t believe that Sisson didn’t cut it in the NFL – he was awesome. Unfortunately the big Tuna (Parcells) got into his head I think.

One thing I love about that video is it was before the trash talking days. Westbrook catches the ball for a first down in FG range to win the game and he gets up like it’s nothing. Today they’d be dancing and pounding their chest over that. Then Sisson bangs it through and he breaks out in a nonchalant trot down the field. Sure it was bedlam on the sideline but obviously a different era.

Look at this video at the 3:15 mark. Even though gt won the upi, the ajc says it didn’t. The bias against gt back then was 100 x worse than it is now.

Personally, I think the flat black helmet with white logo is farking awesome.

BUT…

It should be an overwhelming team consensus, and they should have to earn the right to wear something like that- and an evisceration of Maryland would be the start. I mean, they need to just flat out get medieval on the Terps. No mercy, no remorse.

They’ve done some good things so far, but only a total team effort would earn them the right to switch it up.

United Press International was a news service company like the Associated Press. They both sold their wares to newspapers and other outlets. In those days, the Coaches’ Poll was handled by UPI, and the Writers’ Poll was handled by AP. It was not unusual to have differences in the polls. There were (and are now) other polls, but the Writers’ Poll and the Coaches’ Poll were the most significant.

One thing has changed with the BCS: at the end of the BCS Championship Game, the coaches are required to select the winner as the “national champion.” The NCAA does not award a national championship among for the FBS schools. In the FCS, Div. II and Div III the NCAA does determine the national championship via a playoff for those schools and conferences that choose to participate (the Ivy League does not participate, nor do some other conferences.)

This isn’t from a web site or Wiki; it’s from my memory, so feel free to comment.

What was BS about all that voting crap was this
We were the only undefeated team and beat several ranked teams that year including Uva who was 1 at the time and had blown everyone out prior to us beating them.
Then you have Colorado. Not only did they have a loss, they also had a freaking tie like us. Then they had a 5th down to beat Missouri at the end of that game. How the coaches and players missed that is beyond me. And then the phantom clip call against ND. All that and the idiot writers still vote them 1? Total bs.

In 1990 Houston was voted #10 by the AP, but the were not eligible for the Coaches’ poll because they were on 5 year’s probation, banned from bowls and from TV appearances.

@North Ave, I agree they do look awesome (in a modern sense). It’s different and might be motivational for the players. If the players want to wear them I’m all for it. It’s up to them. I’m use to to the gold helmets but can roll with the changes. I don’t want Tech to get caught up with the latest fad. I don’t see any of the traditional schools changing colors. I doubt Texas, Oklahoma, USC, ND, Bama, Penn State, etc. will do anything similar. I would like to see Bama change the logo on their helmets to a Crimson Elephant or an algae bloom (crimson/red tide), but that’s just me. Plus, I’m not sure what an algae bloom on the side of a helmet would look like. LOL
Go Tech!!!!

Not sure why anyone would be concerned about this game, even down three LB’s. Maryland was blown out by Temple and managed to make Colonial Athletic Association member Towson look competitive for three quarters and ultimately were outgained yardage wise by the Tigers.

GT might surrender some points, but ultimately this game is about GT’s offense and how many points they can score on a team that is 91st in the country in rushing defense. As a point of reference, North Carolina has the 42nd ranked rush defense and they gave up 312 yards rushing to the Yellow Jackets. Temple rushed for 285 yards on Maryland. With a superior scheme and athletes, this game will be out of reach quickly. Especially after Paul Johnson got his team’s attention after a poor week of practice before the NC State game (a win I might add).

I predict Maryland’s uniforms won’t be the only thing that looks bad on Saturday.

Be positive!!! Tech 56 – Maryland 14. A lot of Edsall’s players do not like his discipline and coaching style. I don’t think they will play that hard for him. Johnson’s guys love to play for him. Hopefully Tech will develop a killer instinct in this game and kick Maryland hard when they are down.

@Delbert – Swilling was a defensive end.

@Bob – The black watch sucked. It was the only thing to “sell” after Curry “led” us to 2-19-1 after his first 2 seasons.

Who really cares what crusty old alums think of CFB uniforms? (answer – crusty old alums).

Nothing was as ugly as those old gold unis they used a few years ago (CPJ’s first year?). Those were vomit inducing.

I agree- of course all of the old tech alum would hate change. I would be all for tech coming out in black uni’s. I think gold outlining would look awesome. Black jerseys, white lettering with gold outlining and maybe a gold stripe down the side. If the Clemson game was at night and tech came out in black uni’s, it would be awesome.

The players need to EARN the right to do that. They need to be undefeated going into the Clemson game. And CPJ needs to keep his foot up the rears so that they don’t get caught up in the hype of new jerseys and new fads.

that helmet is bada$$. and on my monitor, it actually looks more like a super-dark grey than black (i know, grey isn’t one of our colors, either, but that helmet is cool). i also liked the white helmets we wore against virginia in the htrowback game a few years ago…

Focus on the Turtle, they will come to play.
D needs to get fired up and O line needs to give Tevin more time in the pocket. This game is going to be closer than many of you think. 35-31, Tech wins in a squeaker. I hope we blow them out, but when we think we have an easy game and don’t need to show up to win, that is when it catches up with us. Remember N Carolina in 1990.

Didn’t turnovers cause that 3-3 tie?
Also on road.
The Terps may not be too keen about their coach and the seniors having to learn new systems for one year.
That may have been our problem last year on defense.
Get up on these guys and see if they have any fight in them like UNC and NC State proved they did.
To no avail.
