Guard Omoregie Uzzi, outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu and safety Isaiah Johnson were named ACC players of the week at their respective position groups on Monday, following Georgia Tech’s 35-28 win over North Carolina.
It’s Uzzi’s second such award in as many weeks. Uzzi (lineman of the week) helped Tech produce almost 500 yards of total offense and run for 312 against a Tar Heels defense that had been allowing 77 rushing yards per game. Coaches credited Uzzi with almost 20 knockdown blocks in the game.
Attaochu (linebacker of the week) had a team-high nine tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a tipped pass that led to an interception. (Side note: I spoke with Jeremiah’s father Paul Saturday evening. He didn’t get to watch the game because he was driving people home from a church service – he’s a pastor – and just caught the last few minutes. Mr. Attaochu, who grew up in Nigeria and is still learning the game, said he prefers reading about the games as opposed to watching them because the game has so much hitting. My kind of fan.)
Johnson (defensive back of the week) got his second interception of the season (the one tipped by Attaochu) and had seven tackles, second most on the team.

Is there not an international student enrolled that was a great soccer player in high school that can be taught to kick the ball through the endzone from 75 yards out? I can hit my lob wedge that far, if I keep my head down.

I remember Pat Swilling having 7 sacks himself in one game, a Tech record. It was against NCSU.

Wild Bill – Georgia Tech had Mohamed Yahiaoui as the kickoff guy a few years back. He didn’t get that many touchbacks, but more than Scott Blair did last year. Also, remember that Scott Blair had to make 8 tackles on kickoffs in 2009. A tough rugby guy might be better.

Ken has a preview of the NC State game up now. He mentions that 4 of NCSU’s top 8 D-linemen are injured, and a walkon is starting at DT; he’s not one of the guys enumerated in my post, nor is he a backup on the 2-deep for the game against the Bearcats.

To solve our NT woes, maybe we recruit a couple of sumo wrestlers from Japan with 4 years of eligibility. Put a 500 lb guy in the center of the line who’s trained not to fall down and let him drive the opponents center 5 yards into the backfield. Feed them buckets of fries, O rings and chili dogs from the V and they should be able to keep their weight up.

Well, enjoy it anyway you like. I’m just proud to be a Yellow Jacket and wanted to state that for the boys. I truly believe that the teamwork and chemistry are the biggest differences from last year. It’s great to be a Tech fan!

19, I’ll say it again, “What are you talking about?” It is strange to me that you think anything from my comments other than that they are genuine. And I assure you that they are. I was a student at Tech in the early 80’s and have been a long-time Tech fan. Why do you think otherwise?

Sorry, the score was 28-6 Georgia Tech. Georgia did not take it well and ran GT off the field with everything they could get their hands on! It was not a pleasant experience for Tech’s team or fans. If you are real, good for you! If you are a poser then that’s sad. That’s where the treatment “thingie” comes into play. BTW? No standard statement like “Go Jackets!”, “Go Tech”, “THWG”? You should have written something like that to identify yourself with the people on this blog. I may be wrong, but only you know. Sleep well. THWG! Go Yellow Jacket!
Sorry Ken, I hope it post. Go Georgia Institute of Technology!

Ken Sug???? Why does this blog stop posting after I submit a comment? I have to go off your site and return, then new posting will appear. Now that I think about it, No new postings appear while I am on the blog site. Could my Firefox browser be the cause or what?

Observations about the defense:
The nickel package is much more effective than the straight 3-4. UNC recognized they could throw on our 3-4 package. We could not stop them until we switched from Drummond to Jamea Thomas. We got better pressure from various blitz packages and did not lose much in Thomas’ run stopping. Drummond has to get better in pass coverage, or we will continue to get burned over the middle.

1 4 GT, I have Firefox, and I don’t have the problem you described. I do have a lot of posts blocked though for unknown reasons. Ken says the filters are doing it; I wish they would redesign the filters.

Ken can you talk to the Tech brass and see if they can put the words to the fight song on the jumbotron two or three times during the home football games. This would help the new fans learn the words during the games.
