Greetings-
I’ve got to get cranking on a couple stories, but wanted to give everyone a chance to react. Three initial thoughts.
1) Georgia Tech was in a tight game for the first time, even trailing for most of the first quarter, and responded. The four-play, 61-yard drive for the go-ahead touchdown said plenty about the team’s ability to execute in the clutch.
2) Outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu has shown plenty of glimpses, but had a highlight-reel game Saturday, showing all manner of playmaking ability.
3) There was plenty to clean up from this game. I saw missed blocks, red-zone hiccups, missed tackles and poor kickoff coverage. Lots of room for improvement.
What do you think?
Thanks for reading. Please follow on Facebook and Twitter.

One more observation – Clemson is once again looking very good – but it’s still early in the season and plenty of time to fold

D-Rad need to have a Tech class to do a study on the Average size of the American AZZ of both men and Women. The Seats at bobby Dodd are too damn small. I am getting Pi$$ed having people that try to FAT STEAL my Seat. Bobby Dodd should seat 48K to let people be comfortable.
KEN S think you can pose that question sometime? I have sent MSG to D-RAD’s Office/email.

Great game, great game!!! The 2 teams, Tech and Carolina got after each other today. Tech came out on top as I expected, fighting for it all the way. The GT offense looked really good, the defense is definitely improving. Can’t take anything away from Carolina. They have a very good football team. I thought Washington played a very disciplined game except for that 1 pick. He looks comfortable and under control. Hill is coming into his own and will improve each week. Sims is starting to come around and will be a major weapon as the season progress. The A-backs have got it go’n on and the O-line need not be big concern anymore. Our Tech D is I believe improving every game. Although today they had a lapse or two. It seems the D play much better when they’re attacking. Was at the game today in the northwest stands,,,the area was rocking. We were after the refs on those BAD calls!!! HAD A WONDERFUL DAY,,,TECH WON!!!!

I confess I arranged for most of these lineman to get paid thousands of dollars to come to UNC and play for me..there is at least four going to get drafted in the NFL first round when this season is over..and I did it because I knew I couldn’t beat you any other way and you still found a way to win OH WELL maybe I will see if anyone out west hasn’t heard of me cheating at both UNC and Miama and be willing to hire me

Thanks for the reactions. Let’s remember that Tech had seven sacks against an offense that had only given up one all year, plus unc does a lot of heavy protection schemes. there were mistakes on both sides, though. plenty to clean up.
thanks, tar heel, for your sportsmanship. opinions like yours are always welcome.

Offense: For the most part good. I think Washington and Days need to take a few lessons from each other. Washington needs to learn how to keep the ball himself sometimes. He has got the pitch but the keep is where he had success later in the game in the Red Zone. I agree that something happened to Hill on that Dropped pass. I dont know what and hope it isn’t major. I would like to see some more push up the middle. I dont think our line has the ‘umph’ do make the wholes for the B-back. Saw a few here and there to keep the Heels guessing but nothing really damaging, or I am just having nostalgia for John Dwyer. Passe were good for the most part. Final grade: B
Defense: Bottom Line Up Front – if we can play 2 halves of good defense, I dont think anyone can will stop us. The D has random moments of both greatness and “WTF?!” mostly solid play but need to work on that 2 min drill defense. It is coming together from a season perspective. I think there should be a guy who hits Al Groh with a cattle prod every quarter just so he will go over and yell at the Defense. That is when they started playing better. And is it just me or are we better when we blitz. I am happy that we are getting the to the QB more, which showed in this game. Final Grade:C+
Special Teams: Keep practicing. We need to get better on kickoff return coverage. I didnt like the way they got to the 30s before we brought them down. Punts took some bad hops, one was really in UNCs favor. Final Grade: C-
Overall: I will take it. Though the way Clemson is playing has me a little worried. NC State is on the docket next so, I’ll worry about them after they beat VT or implode like they normally do.
Go Jackets! Whats the Good Word?!

Both pass plays to Hill worked about as good as you could design (minus the unexplained drop) a pass play. Tech used the run to setup the defender so he thought he was going to make a tackle…only to be surprised…greatly!
Triple option + pass= fantastic option.

Good evening gentlemen…..and trolls too, I guess. Just in from Atlanta….FINALLY. Stopped at the bookstore for awhile and then for dinner on the way back to Augusta. GREAT meeting 5150 today and look forward to meeting some more of you at future games.
As for the game today, a win is a win. Some good, some bad on both sides of the ball. I don’t like to question CPJ, but a couple of plays today were sort of strange—-the shovel pass and the 2nd down loss by TW very late in the game. D looked great at times and lousy at times, but I would say that UNC was actually a very well coached team, and although I don’t think we were “lucky” per se, I guess we could say that we were fortunate. Somebody mentioned the line needing to open more holes for the B-backs—I liked it when we let the A-backs hit the holes in the middle that the line AND the B-backs opened for them. Great adjustment by CPJ there. Somebody said we left 10 points on the field; we actually left 17 points on the field—-the 1st drive fumble, the missed FG, and Hill’s drop. But other than that one drop, Hill was major league today. That one-handed sideline reception reminded me of Calvin…..AWESOME.
Anyway, good to be back home in Augusta with another W under our belts.

Hill had a great game and I just hope he is ok. That hammy must have really acted up for him to miss that. Look for improvement against NC State. The D has potential and just needs to clean things up, remember for the most part they are young.
Super, I think that shovel pass was just something to give D coordinators another thing to worry about.

GT played fine today. Clean up some of the mistakes, not all of them, and GT is likely into the 40s on points today. Groh still seems to be calling a lot of vanilla schemes, but it seemed like he reached into his bag of tricks late in the game, calling more stunts, blitzes, etc. The hope is that the team takes some lessons from this game and makes improvements going forward.

The shovel was a little scary with the defender kinda in the way. And you’re right Super about the 2nd down call late in the game – Bob Davies was all over that.

I sense that CPJ has confidence in the D this year. He’s not willing to go on 4th down nearly as much. Settling for FG and even punting for field position. I give him a lot of credit if year’s past strategies, many that seemed very questionable at the time, were mainly to cover for a weak defense.

Otherwise, while not the cleanest game by either side, I’m very encouraged by the response and will to win that this team showed. UNC deserves plenty of credit too for not folding and that back they have is special. Winning ain’t easy as CPJ says and we had to overcome some adversity and earn it. Hopefully we execute well enough to win the next 3 and save the flawless execution for the tough stretch that follows.

Last year, Hill’s hands resembled the side of a barn often. JN definitely didn’t have the touch he needed or that Tevin shows, but it’s not all on him. BayBay was the difference maker in ‘09.

There have to be better non scholarship kickers in the student body than Tech’s kickoff and punter. Does the scoll have a soccer team, men or even a women’s team? With so many scholarships how could Johnson fail to sign two descent kickers? Ga has recruited a OB/kicker who kicked a 57yd field goal this weekend!

One hi-lite and one low. Hill’s one-hander will be remembered but the missed open field reception will not. Hope Stephen doesn’t let it get him down…as that kinda thing did last year. Still did NOT like him taking himself out with the ‘hamstring’ – taped up and back in on next series. If you watched Tech last year, he’s done that before. Bow up, Stephen, it’s all in front of you.
And we did have to beat the refs – bad spots all day long and the H2H call was the worst I’ve seen in a decade. It’s football, not flag-ball. Lowering you shoulder and knocking the receiver on his rear-end is the way it’s coached and should be applauded, not penalized. I’m betting Coach Groh did just that on the sidelines.
