Lyons, Greene upgraded for Georgia Tech

The injury status of B-back Preston Lyons and wide receiver Jeff Greene was upgraded Thursday to questionable for Georgia Tech’s Saturday game against North Carolina. Coach Paul Johnson graded them as doubtful on Wednesday.
Both would play important roles if available. Lyons is the backup to starter David Sims and Greene is the No. 3 receiver behind Stephen Hill and Tyler Melton.

Lyons’ backup is Charles Perkins. Daniel McKayhan and Chris Jackson are behind Greene.

Hopefully we won’t be over confident tomorrow.

I still wonder what happened to Chris Jackson. I thought that he was going to be the next Calvin. Seems like he should be somewhere on the depth chart.

Chris hasn’t played football for the past two season. He had to sit out when he transfered and now he is coming off a season ending knee injury. I wouldn’t expect too much from him this early in the season. My guess is that he’ll be back to game ready next season, MAYBE towards the end of this season

UNC is, by far, the best team the Jackets have faced. If the Jacket defense and special teams do not improve significantly, UNC will score often, I’m afraid. That is not to say the Jackets cannot outscore them, but, maybe not.

Our system is foolproof. We can bring any decent athlete in off the street and they could get 180 yards in any given game. I cannot wait to win our first national championship in 20 years this season. This will be the first of 10 or 12 under Paul Johnson.

If the Jackets continue to hit on all cylinders, and put up 45+ pts & 500+ yds vs. UNC will everyone cast the Tar Heels into the “they stink/have no talent” pile that they’ve put WCU, MTSU, and Kansas in?

Not saying WCU, MTSU or KU are worldbeaters by any means, but GT has done, in 3 consecutive games, things they have never done under PJ. 2010 didn’t see ANY game equal or surpase GT’s lowest (49, 596) thus far in 2011. 2009 had a few 500+ yd games, but only one (56, 597 vs Vandy) surpased Tech’s lowest in 2011.

I like the Jackets tomorrow.

The UNC QB is good. He completes just about everything he throws, but he is prone to interceptions. If we can bring pressure, it should create opportunities for our secondary. Problem is the D-line has trouble pushing the pocket. Our OLBs need to step up their rush.

damn NASAJacket….how high are you lol. on a more serious note I think a NC is a possibility in the 5 years. Our defense still needs to recruit well and if we get can players with the caliber of Derrick Morgan or Morgan Burnett I believe we will have a solid shot at a NC.

Kudos Ken! Always enjoy reading your blog. Excited for this weekend. Go Jackets!

Jack is right on target. We’ve simply got to get a pass rush. Hopefully, this is the main thing the team has worked on this week. And, obviously, NASA is a Dawg having a bit of fun.

I am afraid the Media is over looking the fact that we have a Gapeing defiecentcy on our Defensive line!! They seem to focus on what were good at and not what were are bad at!!!
I hope this does not Bite us in this UNC game…

Al Groh and Andy McCulla need to find a way for thes guys to be productive up front

UNC is the greatest team in the world; they have Div IA’s best defense, their QB is all world; we should be afraid, very afraid; blah, blah, blah. Seriously guys, if we can’t beat UNC, then we don’t deserve the press or the top 25 ranking. Go Jackets!!!

I agree ramblingbuzz. I won’t get worried until I see us behind, turning the ball over etc. I’m going into this game with a lot of confidence. Tech should beat them by 2 td’s at the very least.

I don’t know if our D line is bad or it is just the 3-4 defense. I’m a Patriots fan and the 3-4 bend-don’t-break defense is terrifying to watch. I guess the theory is you give up 4-8 yards an attempt, but never the big yardage, but if you stop them once, they have to punt.
It is terrifying to watch.

I know this is off subject, but what the heck happened to Tenuta? I watched the NC State game last night and that was the most clueless defense I’ve ever seen. It almost looked like the NC State D had never played tackle football before. If they didn’t have some good individual play Cinci would have put up 222.

As usual, great job Ken and thanks for your efforts. Liked the story about the Wreck (or Reck).

If either Lyons or Greene can’t play, there are good players behind them that will get their shot. Perkins in particular. I think with more PT he might start to shine.

As for the Rambling Wreck, I don’t know what others think, but I would like to see more merchandise with the Wreck image on it. Nothing against Buzz but the Wreck image is very classy. I’d buy a hat tomorrow with the Wreck on it.

I don’t think the defense is getting enough credit. I’m not saying they are great, but there has been much improvement. So far, we have done a good job stopping the run, and we are attacking the ball carriers with the linebackers and secondary at the line of scrimmage. Yes, the pass rush is lacking, but in the past we couldn’t stop the run. Several of the TDs we’ve given up have been by the 2nd & 3rd teamers. The defense is getting better.

RT in NC,

What about bringing Tenuta back here at Tech?

Supersize that order, mutt

September 23rd, 2011

I don’t want Tenuta back. He didn’t do anything at Notre Dame, and regardless of what position he currently has at NC State, he’s not doing anything there either. I liked Tenuta’s defense WHEN they decided to play. There were way too many games, when they just sat back and did nothing. The incredible loss at UVA one of those years is a prime example. We got behind; even with Reggie Ball, we fought back and took the lead, only to watch the defense give it up again and lose the game. All the stunting and blitzing were spectacular and fun to watch, WHEN they put their hearts into it. One very positive thing that can be said about this year’s defense is that I have not seen any lack of enthusiasm on any player’s part. I can NEVER forget how Phillip Wheeler could look so ferocious in one game and so pathetic in the next. I don’t look for that to happen under Al Groh.
