Allen sole Tech rookie to survive final cuts

Just as he was the only Georgia Tech player drafted in April, Baltimore Ravens running back Anthony Allen was the only Tech rookie to make an NFL opening day roster.
As teams pared down their rosters to the 53-player limit, Allen earned a spot with the Ravens as the third running back behind Ray Rice and Ricky Williams. Allen, a seventh-round pick, beat out veteran Jalen Parmele for the final running back spot. Ravens coach John Harbaugh has called Allen “a natural fit” for the team’s offensive scheme.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mario Butler, Falcons wide receiver Kevin Cone and fullback Lucas Cox, Buffalo Bills safety Joshua Nesbitt and New York Giants safety Jerrard Tarrant all were cut this weekend, following Bills linebacker Brad Jefferson’s release earlier this week.
Those players will be eligible to sign as practice-squad players. Teams can keep up to eight players on those units.

Congrats to Anthony Allen.

Looks like Dwyer will be getting some carries for Pittsburg this season.

I would be willing to bet Mario Butler, Lucas Cox, Jerrard Tarrant and Brad Jefferson will be signed to practice squads. Joshua Nesbitt might even make the Bills practice squad because Chan likes him and he is an exceptional athlete (future Safety if given time to learn the position).

Why was Nesbitt playing Safety for the Bills, I thought CPJ was an Offensive “genius”?

Since Nesbitt played QB for an offensive genius like CPJ, one would think that he also play QB for the Bills.

I wish one of the local(Atlanta) Sports talk radio Stations would interview Nesbitt and ask him does he wish he had moved to Safety when CPJ took over and if he did have 3 yrs. of safety exp. at the college level does he think he would have made an NFL roster at safety, probably Strong safety?

Our offense sure looked much better than UGA’s offense this week. UGA is in for a long season. South Carolina will destroy them. They have no receivers other than a tight end, an offensive line that was absolutely destroyed by Boise St, and a defensive team that was ready to quit in the second quarter last night. Those were the worst uniforms I have ever seen. I compared them to Gramblings earlier, but saw Grambling on TV later last night and they were much better than UGA. So was their players. LMAO

I can see how u might not be able to sleep after watching your team get “manhandled” as Georgia homer Chip Towers even admits.
Is Boise State a well-coached team or what?
If the Broncos were able to appear in mid-season form, why wasn’t Uga?
I agree with GT Grad’s remarks.

I think even Dwyer should have stayed. You need that Sr year to develop and get stronger. You Juniors who want to leave early for the draft, consider that you will be going up against guys 3 plus years older than you who have done nothing but dedicated themselves to being as strong as they can q

Careful singing UGA O-line. Tech is still not as good as we should be up front (size, quickness) like Boise St. is. That’s why UGA is always able to run on us.
Boise St, more 2-star recruits than 3-star, and only one 4-star in the past four years. I love it!
Wonder how the “dream team” is feeling right now.
Thanks to Allen, we are 2 for 2 in B-backs in CPJ’s system!

Good job Allen. Hope the team is focused this week. MTSU went to Perdue and almost pulled the upset. They are jacked up for the game in their house. Tech needs to come in and put any upset hopes to rest quickly and don’t let up. Keep working hard guys. I see this team getting better as the season goes as long as they play with the mindset that they have to outwork people and take nothing for granted.

Even though the uga Staff does idiotic things on gameday, Mutt Stafford did not get drafted by the NFL as the #1 overall pick based on his Plano HS, Tx. teachings, so he had to have learned “something” at uga.

But we’re talking about Nesbitt here.

If Nesbitt makes the NFL Practice squad as a Safety, then by NOT playing safety at GT for 3 yrs. then he in all likelihood cost himself $300 to $600K in signing bonuses by not playing safety in College.

He might have entertained us GT fans as an option QB, but he cost himself a lot of MONEY by being “more loyal” to GT & CPJ than he was to himself and HIS OWN FINANCIAL BEST INTERESTS.

If Nesbitt plays safety in College for 3 yrs. he’s easily drafted in the 3rd 4th round and probably makes an opening day roster.

All you smug CPJ-lovin’ GT Alums aren’t gonna do a darn thing to make up that MONEY that Nesbitt cost himself.

Those are facts(well kinda) and they cannot be argued.

WnE correct me if I’m wrong but when Paul Johnson was named the head coach before the bowl game after the 07 season nobody MADE Nesbitt stay at Tech. I remember Colin Peek transfering to Bama and having a decent career. Your response will prob. be well he wouldve wasted a year. Not really, the genius known as Chan wasted his first year with the Tebow light package. So for arguements sake lets say he transfered after the 07 season he sits out a year he is still left with 3 YEARS at a school of HIS CHOOSING. CPJ even said when he took over that he would and did grant unconditional realsease to all players who wanted them. It was NESBITT who decided to stay and play QB at tech no ones fault be his. THESE ARE THE FACTS

Do you thint that Nesbitt regrets his decision to stay at QB in a triple option offense or do you think he wishes he would have stayed at GT and played Safety or transferred and played safety?

Just because Nesbitt stayed at QB under CPJ that doesn’t mean he doesn’t REGRET it now that he has more info on the “real world” (i.e the NFL).

I have no idea if he regrets it. I’m not Joshua Nesbitt. But making a claim that us GT alums should pay him money because he stayed and played qb is absurd. The point is HE had the choice to leave. Heck he could’ve left after his Jr. year to the nfl and he wouldve gotten drafted in a later round because of the sucess he had throwing to Thomas!

Coach

September 4th, 2011
2:43 pm

Get your facts straight and quit trying to stir up controversy. Nesbit was advised as far back as HS by his Greene County coaches that his best chance to play on Sundays was at DB. UGA probably would have offered him at DB but made it clear they did not want him as a QB. (They were, in fact, rude to him, and he did not forget it.)

It was HIS decision to play QB, not Gailey’s or Johnson’s. Don’t try to make this into something it is not. Does he regret it? Who knows, but the decision was his and his alone. Good luck to him.

WnE from your 1:11 post and I quote ” All you smug CPJ lovin Gt alumns are gonna do a darn thing to make up that MONEY that Nesbitt cost himself.” Sounds exactly like you are emplying that we should pay him to me. No one is more thankful for what Nesbitt did at Tech than me and believe me he will never be without a job weither it is in football or in the real world. As a matter of fact it really wouldnt suprise me to see him coaching if he doesn’t make it on a practice squad. However, I would almost bet money that he is named to the practice squad in Buffalo. Perfect player to have, he can learn to be an nfl safety and also give the defenses a really good look at a mobile qb.

Re: mwh6767

The difference between making a practice squad and getting drafted in the 4th round or so is an easy $300K to $600K, so Nesbitt is probably hating himself for falling for CPJ’s slick talking used car salesman tactics.

Also I clearly said that Nesbitt cost himself the money.

Dwyer & A. Allen didn’t pickup blitzes and catch screen passes and they cost themselves $500K and up dues to CPJ’s gimmicky Offense, and now Nesbitt is losing tons of money also.

What a recruiting spiel, come an play in my gimmicky triple-(s)loption Offense and lose upwards of $300K in NFL signing bonuses, money that you’ll never get a chance to make up.

WnE, its seems to me that you have something personal against CPJ. Trust me, the “used car salesman tactics” that you claim is used by ALL college coaches and recruiters. They will promise you the world to get you on campus. Thats just the nature of the beast. There are thousands of former star high school players who didn’t work out at the colleges they went too. Its not just something that is caused by ” the gimmicky offense.” Lets not forget as well that Allen transfered INTO Tech from Louisville, he was here before CPJ. Once again you are talking about choices and making them is part of life. Cpj isn’t trying to make these guys money in the Nfl he is trying to win college football games.

I think at root of it if WnE is a tech fan he just doesn’t like CPJ. And that is certainly your entitled opion WnE. Do I like the man yes, however I want my school to be sucessful football program. The limited sucess he has had does buy him a little time IMO. However, I need to see improvement from last year during this season and next year needs to be a very good year. That would be 5 years under CPJ. If at that time we are looking at only one win against uga and no bowl wins it will be time to look at going in a different direction.

WnE,
Same story, different day. Its tired and old. You actually believe that you are going to convince us that CPJ is the used car salesman that convinced Nesbitt to stay at QB, DESPITE the fact that Nesbitt was already committed to being a QB before CPJ got to GT. You can’t convince me with your “facts” that Nesbitt would be in any different position (the practice squad at Buffalo) if CPJ never came to GT. Actually, that’s not even true, he is likely only on the Buffalo practice squad BECAUSE CPJ is the coach at GT and not Chan Gailey.
