Greetings
The much-awaited (since earlier today) 2011 AJC Georgia Tech prediction contest sponsored by Vandelay Industries is upon us. Pretty simple. Pick each game, win or loss, no score necessary. Let’s say the first tiebreaker will be the number of games accurately predicted and the second will be going game-by-game backwards from Georgia.
I don’t know what the prize will be, but I guess I’ve got a few months to figure it out. Maybe the good folks in marketing can send something our way.
To make the reading a little more interesting, give your outlook (no treatises, please. 75 words is enough) and feel free to make another prediction, like, Louis Young will be All-ACC, or, at their pre-game meeting before the Tech-N.C. State game, Paul Johnson will give Tom O’Brien an atomic wedgie.
Also, who will be Tech’s leading rusher and with how many yards, what bowl will Tech go to (if it does) and yes or no on if Vad Lee plays and if yes, what’s his first game.
Deadline is kickoff on Thursday. Please don’t be a doofus and post multiple predictions under different handles.
Thanks for reading. Please follow on Facebook and Twitter.

Tech goes (9-3) in regular season. Wins a bowl game. O. Smith rushes for 800+ yards and Sims puts up a respectable 1100 yards. Tevin completes 55% of his passes. Cross leads a much improved defense. Vad Lee will see snaps Thursday night.

Tech will go 6-6, unfortunately losing to Georgia, VT and Clemson again. Vad Lee will be redshirted. The new focus on the air attack will lose wind after after Kansas and lead to the first loss against no coach North Carolina. Roddy Jones will lead the rushing attack with 816 yards as Tech goes to the Kraft Bowl in San Francisco losing against Oregon State. Wish it was better. Go Tech!

Tech goes 13-1, breaks bowl losing streak in the Orange Bowl after taking care of FSU in the ACCG. The only slip up is against Clemson. 3 guys will have 1,000+ yards rushin (Washington, Sims, Jones). Stephen Hill will finally catch passes this year and lead the ACC with receiving yards.

Vad will play thurs. day but will still be red shirted. I think they can play and still be red shirted up to a certain date.
A win in the Chicken bowl would be great.

I do believe that we will beat UGA this season. I just have a hunch that Groh’s defense will come out firing this year. UGA has not stopped Tech’s offense for the past 3 years. Defense has been our problem the past 2 years and Tech will imrpove the defense this year. Heck, Tevin Washington led the offense up and down the field against UGA last year as a RS-SO after starting only a few games. I dont understand why UGA has preseason hype and is RANKED?? They lost to Central Florida in the bowl AND lost A.J. Green. How are they ranked? The hype that UGA gets every year blows my mind. Tech is underrated and will surprise lots of people this year.

12-2 record (11-1 regular season, ACC Champion, lose in Orange Bowl). Nobody on the schedule has stopped CPJ’s offense. I think we slip up at NC State, but everybody else is either terrible or going through significant changes (new coaches, scheme changes, or NCAA penalties). GT wins VT game by 14+ points. Defense has 20+ sacks.

If there are no “nesbitt” type injuries, and the overall TO margin is a plus I’ll say 9-3 … 10-3 with a bowl victory. 10-4 (lose to FSU in ACC champ) if 9-3 wins the Coastal.
If there are bad injuries OR if the overall TO margin is negative I’ll say 7-5 … 8-5 with a bowl victory.
Yes, I think GT wins their bowl game in 2011.
95% of BB carries will be split between DS & CP with CP edging out for overall rushing yds … 1,200+ total yds for the pair.
Vad Lee plays this season
Tony Zenon will be the best AB
Uzzi, Burnett, Cross, Attaochu All ACC …. if 9-3 is the record: Young, Johnson, Washington, Watts will be on All ACC teams too. Sims or Perkins would warrant if either got the majority of the carries, but I think PJ will use them both like a few of his Navy teams thus keeping either from the “stats” needed.
D will be top 3 in ACC for sacks

We’ve beat UNC like 8 out of the last 10 times. It might be time for a loss, but I don’t think so at home. We used to NEVER win AT UNC, but that seems to have changed recently, and I don’t think we will lose at home this year either. For one thing it was a UNC man who was mostly responsible for putting Tech on probation, and I think the coaches, the team, and the fans are going to want to take it out on the Heels.

As Tech grad, I agree with WONDERING about some of the things they have put up being too far out. What I consider as too far out are avoiding the pass, not using a shotgun, wearing black socks and colder weather high stockings with mainly black shoes, spending too much time faking handoffs in the backfield, taking snaps 4 loss @ los if qb then runs off guard/tackle toward sidelines, running turn that corner runs instead of downfield toward goal line runs, wearing pink socks, planning to start Tevin Washington, wearing 85% black side stripes on pants on white unis, not wearing white helmets every now and then, ditching the early 70’s long legged yj for Buzz and wearing Buzz patches on the T-club jackets, ditching the unis worn for CPJ’s first year that featured old gold stripes and preferring to wear black stripes last year in the black on black pants/socks combo. I hate to be critical toward alma mater, but as alum I’d like to watch games. There’s no reason why Tech should lose to anybody this year if they keep the momentum up from CPJ’s first year up to the Chick fil A Bowl, which was a uni bust for Tech with the navy jerseys on gold pants…too dark. They’ll lose to alums if they wear black, just like they did last year.

If Tech can take care of the football and with the different attitude the players have I truly believe this team will go (Best) 11/1 – (worst) 10/2 before the bowl game
Western Carolina – W
MTSU – W
Kansas – W
UNC – W
NCST – W
Maryland – W
VIR – W
Miami – W or L (they get all players back from susp)
Clemson – W or L
Vir Tech – W
Duke – W
Stinky Pups – W

I have always had a hard time deciding which Tech lie I love the most. The fact Tech fans annually accuse UGA fans of predicting national championships (which they never do) all the while Tech themselves own two of the most overrated programs in sports history with their baseball and basketball teams; or, the fact Tech fans EVERY SINGLE YEAR predict victory over their masters from Athens….when we all know how that usually turns out.
Tech fans couldn’t be more pathetic or hilarious if they tried.

Realistically, the over and under is about 7.5 wins:
I say we win 3.5 of our four easiest games: WC, MTSU, Kansas, Duke
We win 2.5 games against out four next best opponents: Clemson, NCST, Maryland, UVA
And 1.5 games against our toughest four opponents: VT, Miami, UNC, UGA.
6 wins will be a disappointment, 9 wins will be great, 7 or 8 wins would be expected. Though the players seem to be adopting the system well and have a much better attitude than last year, they are still one of the youngest teams in the nation, and will find it difficult to do much better than this.

ugag – W
Champs Sports Bowl vs. Notre Dame – W
This prediction is barring any big injuries/early season upsets. I believe we will go 9-3 in the regular season, ending 10-3, missing the ACCCG on tiebreakers to VT. One loss coming to someone we shouldn’t lose to, and one win against someone we aren’t supposed to beat. That win will be VT or ugag, that loss being NC State.
David Sims will rush for 1350+ yards and Tevin Washington will pass for 1100+ yards. The defense will be ranked in the top 35 in the nation, and our rushing offence will be in the top 5 nationally, gaining 300 yards per game on average.

You guys are giving State WAY too much respect. I think Tech shocks the ACC and the media by going 10-2 with losses to VT and UGA. I think we win our bowl game. I think the passing game is the best since Johnson left Navy. I think Sims gets 1300+ yards. I think one of the freshman becomes a phenom….not sure which one yet though. Johnson is due one of those guys and we are so young it’s bound to happen…..he’s great at putting young players in position to be ultra-successful early. I think we put up our best offensive numbers of the CPJ era. I think Washington gets hurt in week 4 or 5 and Vad Lee comes on an struggles but just keeps on winning and making enough big plays throwing the ball.

09/01/11 vs. Western Carolina – W Tech will run, run and run some more. Will only pass 10 times this game and complete 7. Washington does great job at QB and Tech Rolls 48-7 Over 500 yards total offense. Everyone except Vad Lee gets to play
09/10/11 at Middle Tennessee State – W Tech will drive the field and score on the first series and Tech will put up big numbers again. Tech wins 42-10
09/17/11 vs. Kansas – W Revenge will be so sweet! Kansas will not know what hit them. Very different from last year and Tech will roll and roll big! Over 400 yards rushing. Defense will be very tough and Tech will dominate. 36-7
09/24/11 vs. North Carolina – W They still won’t have their act together with the new coach. Tech will be on a roll The Heels will be wishing it were already Basketball season. Tech puts the hurt on the heels and rolls 28-14
10/01/11 at North Carolina State – W Tough game however Tech will win on last posession
10/08/11 vs. Maryland – W The turtles will curl up in their shell and Tech will Roll! 35-14
10/15/11 at Virginia – W Not even a close game Tech will have 400 yards rushing and the defense will rule!
10/22/11 at Miami – W Miami will have 12/15 starters that won’t be elligable and Tech will win this game 28-21 Tech will also break into the top 20 in the polls with this win!
10/29/11 vs. Clemson – W Clemson will fold like a Cheap suit Tech Rolls 32-10 Clemson’s coach will be fired at the end of this game.
11/10/11 vs. Virginia Tech L – At this game both teams will be undefeated and it will be on National TV It will be a close one but Tech will fall 32-28 :0(
11/19/11 at Duke – W Tech Rebounds and Crushes The Pukies, 38-7
11/26/11 vs. Georgia – W Tech faces the Bull Puppies in Atlanta and both teams will be ranked. It will be a very close game but Tech’s offense will roll up 350 yards on the Puppies and keep the ball most of the game and Georgia will have to throw almost every down to play catch up. Tech will win 32-28

Tech will be invited the the Big Chick bowl in Atlanta on New years and Crush Georgia in a remach! Because Georgia won’t be able to stand two losses to Tech in one year Georgia will fire their coach.

I also think Alabama loses to Florida in the SECC game. Knocking them out of the National Championship. Paving the way for a Virginia Tech vs. Oregon BCS Championship game. Florida will lose to Bama and LSU in the regular season but get the East crown over South Carolina via the head to head tie breaker. Carolina will lose back to back games against Arkansas and Florida. Georgia will go 9-3 with losses to Boise, Carolina, and Florida. LSU will lose to Oregon, Tennessee, and Bama. Bama’s lone regular season loss will be @ Mississippi State 14-10.
And finally, Orgeon will beat Stanford with both teams scoring in the 50s.

Tech will go 9-3 this season (loses to NC State – in overtime, VT – rally falls short, and Miami – blowout). Synjyn Days will close the season as the starting quarterback (Vad Lee will play, but not be the full-time starter). When Coach Johnson shakes the hand of the UGA head football coach after “Clean Old-Fashioned Hate”, the hand will be someone other than Mark Richt.

9-3. Lose to NCState, Miami, and one other TBD. Win over UGA though. Orwin Smith will push 1000 yards, as well as Sims and Washington will all be in the race for a 1000 yrd season. Sweeting, Cross and perhaps Jones and Uzzi will be all-acc.

There are 5 should-be wins and 4 should-be losses on the schedule. We will probably go 1-2 in the other games for a 6 win season.
If the defense has major improvements we can win 8 games, but no more than that.

Consensus looks to be 9-3. I would agree. We split against UNC and NC St, although i’m not sure which is a W right now. We lose 2 of 3 against Miami, Climpsen and VT. I’m leaning toward the W being against Climpsen for homecoming. We beat the Doggies in another close game.
CPJ gets first bowl victory in Champs Bowl against UConn.
GT leads nation in rushing, again, but doesn’t have one 1000 yd rusher. Roddy and Orwin top the list with 700+ yds each.
Vad gets the RS as Tevin and Synjyn (sp?) work well as a 1-2 punch, Tevin getting the bulk of the playing time and throwing for over 800 yds.
D is much better than last year but not great. Finishes 5th in the league in D stats.
Special teams is the big question mark. I don’t think anyone right now knows what we have, including CPJ. Hope they just don’t lose us games.
Someone posted earlier that we return a KO for a TD. I think that will be the first time in maybe 10 years. Anybody know for sure?

9-3 will be great, with a real butt-whipping of the Dawgs in Hotlanta!
Last year, well, as much as a real tough-guy Nesbitt was, he was not much to get’m fired up. I look for Roddy Jones to be that leader this year. IF we can cut our fumbles in half, and double our pass completions(which should be easy to do), we’ll surprise at lot of people.
