Georgia Tech A-back Roddy Jones was nominated for the AFCA Good Works Team. The award recognizes volunteerism and community service by college football players.

Jones has been involved with several volunteer activites while at Tech. In particular, he has volunteered with the Special Olympics of Georgia, has visited patients and taken part in events with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and spoken at Kids @ Kollege, an event bringing inner-city children to campus.

Jones is one of 56 FBS (formerly Division I-A) nominees for the 11-player team, which will be chosen by a panel mostly consisting of former Good Works team members and media members.

Jones has started for three seasons and has 1,388 rushing yards, 26th in school history. He is also a three-time Academic All-ACC selection who earned his management degree in December.

Good job Jones! Nice to see someone “give back” instead of just “take”.

Who cares, I want to hear more about football players getting arrested and accepting improper benefits. C’mon AJC, what gives with this story?

Roddy represents himself as a tribute to his family, his team, as and the entire Jacket Nation and we all couldn’t be prouder of him. He is what a Scholar Athlete is all about and should be looked to as a role model for anyone looking to see what success is all about.

Tech students have a long history of mentoring kids in the surrounding neighborhoods, one of the reasons we lead the nation in graduating Afro-American engineers(’course to folks like bo, that’s only the ghetto, why would his ilk be interested)……

A great representative for GT and college football! I’m sure Mark Bradley can come up with something negative about it, though!

Georgia fan here, but good to hear about players actually being student athletes and giving back to the community. Refreshing for a change.

Why do we have to bash the dumb fans from our rival and not say thank you to people like bulldog steve? Thanks Steve for recognizing a good story when you see one. I’m sure that you all have some good kids up there in Athens too.

What a refreshing story! Thanks for publishing it. And thanks, too, to Bulldog Steve for an appropriate response. It’s good to see ANY student giving of himself to make the community a better place … doesn’t matter whether from GA Tech, UGA, or even ‘Bama!
