Radakovich “entrenched” at Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech athletic director Dan Radakovich denied a report that Tennessee was interested in making him their next athletic director.

Volquest.com, a website devoted to Tennessee athletics, reported on Friday that the Volunteers were interested in hiring Radakovich as their athletic director until the NCAA report came out on Thursday in which the Yellow Jackets were stripped of their 2009 ACC championship in football, put on four years of probation and fined $100,000. In the report, the NCAA said that Tech tried to manipulate player interviews with investigators and that Radakovich had improper conversations with football coach Paul Johnson regarding an on-going investigation.

Radakovich’s name has been linked in the past to many openings, including the a.d. job at Miami.

“I don’t know where this comes from,” Radakovich said. “I’ve never spoken to Tennessee. I’ve got enough on my plate here. I wish them well with whatever they are looking to do.”

To eliminate any nuance, Radakovich said that neither he, nor anyone representing him, has spoken to Tennessee, or anyone representing the Vols, about any position in Knoxville.

Radakovich said on Thursday that he is entrenched in Atlanta and hopes to work at the Institute for as long as President G.P. Peterson will allow.

He is entrenched now because he is tainted by the stain of being the cause of his school being on probation. No other school would hire him now. His days at Tech are numbered…..he intentionally disregarded the NCAA’s instructions about communicating about the investigation…….

yeah that is too bad about Demaryius Thomas and the $300 gift of clothes. Too bad the Pastor Uncle that became his guardian a few years ago didn’t shop around and receive 6 figures for the first round draft choice to play at the school that came up with the cash. Also too bad, Demaryius didn’t just steal the clothes and if the police came to the door asking about it, all he had to do is just throw the clothes out the window, Then all would be hunky dory today. NCAA wouldn’t have a problem with either.

I don’t see how these sanctions are going to stand. Reading the NCAA report and talking to people within the athletic department, it just seems like the NCAA is more pissed that they really didn’t find anything and that Tech essentially told them to f off.

The only thing the NCAA has is that D. Thomas did received $312 in clothing that was never worn and still have the tags. They have no definitive evidence on who gave D. Thomas the clothing and have absolutely nothing on M. Burnett. They also have no proof that the players were coached on how to conduct their interviews other than the fact that D. Radakovich told Coach Johnson about the investigation.

If the Jackets value their integrity at all, they would find a way to appeal this with a third party in order to prevent the NCAA from abusing its power.

I think both Peterson & D-Rad are probably entrenched for a while, but if they don’t appeal they should be fired. I know we don’t have a lot of $, but I would spare no expense in hiring the top lawyer to appeal. I have a serious problem for the NCAA nailing us for not sitting them, when I believe the week of the UGA game last yr, the NCAA recommended that AU sit Scam, but AU told them to F off. He recruits no big name kids and his wishbone O is a thing of the past. Athletic teams like LSU or Iowa or UGA, Miami or VaTech, FSU or others can defeat is 8 out of 10 times. Yes, lately, FSU has also been bad for their historical standards.

These facts are far more important than what DRad has or has not done.

I for one am very disappointed in Dan Radakovich . Sure , I like him better then our last AD who settled for just being ” mediocre ” and told us that we should be happy winning 7 games on any given year . But Dan Radakovich certainly bungled this investigation and I hold him responsible for the penalties that the NCAA handed down to the football
program . Which part of ” Don’t tell anybody about this ” did he not understand ?
What he did was make a bad decision and it makes me wonder if the timing [ UGA game, ACC Championship game & Orange Bowl ] had any weight in that decision making process . Anyway it was just plain stupid for something this small to get all blowed up out of proportion like it did .
Should Dan Radakovich be allowed to remain at the helm of GT Athletic’s ?
For me it would mean that the $100,000 penalty would come out of his pocket and also
freezing his wages for the duration of the probation period . And I am being compassionate here . Likewise , I made a stupid decision one time in my job and it cost me my job . My mistake did not bring embarrassment to the company I worked for or cost them in any financial manner . But I did learn my lesson .
I as a GT fan and all Alum’s should be embarrassed about this revelation that our program is not conducting business above reproach .

@MJC you are trying to apply logic – something the NCAA doesn’t exercise. The pattern is well established. The NCAA plays favorites based on the money the program brings in.

Proof is in the pudding. AJ Green breaks a pretty meaningless rule. UGA self reports and suspends AJ until the NCAA can clear him. The NCAA smacks AJ with a four game suspension. OSU admits 5 starters broke numerous rules (some major) and rules they can serve their punishment when it is convenient for OSU. Follow the money…………………..

The NCAA is corrupt and sucks – no way around it.

(keep in mind UGA spotted Hokies about 24 before we roared back to stomp them in the Chic Fil A Bowl) and Miami and FSU have been CONSISTENTLY good to very good over the last few many years. 15? +

UGA was awful in two of the last 15 -18 years BUT is STILL one of the top 10 or 12 winning prgrams over the last 15 + years and ALL TIME # 4 in bowl wins.
Clemson? What have they done in 31 years?

Besides …………….. the world knows that the CPJ wishbone only works well vs Furman or Chattannoga U or Elon College or U of Charleston, etc.that do not have Defensive side depth which is a key. CPJ knows that it works in small boy ball but in the low to mid low level ACC it is a 5-6 system at best.

One thing that seems to have escaped everybody’s notice here, although maybe the dawg fans are just ignoring it, is that the final 3 games of 2009 were VACATED. Pretty small consolation, but still…….

About three days ago Dan Radakovich was using Georgia Tech as a stepping stone.

I think that little career plan just took a dramatic u-turn. It’s going to be a while before a school bigger than Tech offers him a job. The way he handled a fairly simple issue was a huge error in judgment.

Oddly, he doesn’t yet seem to understand that.

I am an attorney. If a judge were to tell me not to tell someone something I would damn sure not tell them. I don’t care what my future relationship would be with whoever I witheld the information from. In this case the relationship of DRAD to the NCAA was very similar to a judge/attorney relationship. i.e. you don’t screw with them under any circumstances or your credibility will be forever blown. It also appears that the attorney hired by Tech got them in a lot of trouble also. I am a Ga grad with 2 ex-wives who were Tech graduates. Great gals who gave their all on the field of play. Can’t help it now if I was young and a you know what. Love UGA and think a lot of Tech. I would love to see one of my kids go there.

My point is this. DRAD violated the most basic of policies in any professional setting. Always tell the truth and your word is your bond. I am sure he told the investigator that he would keep the information private. He did not and the investigator got blasted by his boss. I find it shameful that DRAD still has a job.

This is a minor violation that resulted in huge penalties due to your incompetence, arrogance, and untruthfullness. I can’t imagine a much bigger screwup for an AD than this.

@What vacating means … sorry, bubba, but vacating means the same for a loss that it means for a win. If a player is ineligible to play and still plays (which is what the all-knowing NCAA) is claiming, then it is the same as never having played the game. It is NOT a forfeiture, which would be what you are claiming—-in fact, the game does not count. So, silly as it may be (and I grant that it is silly), UGA cannot claim that as a win. In the same sense, Clemson cannot claim to have beat Tech in Tampa. As far as the NCAA is concerned, the game never happened, and Clemson wins the ACC championship by default.

Sucks when you cheat and still lose to UGA and in your big time bowl game in the spot light! Tech graduates are the only people who think they have any integrity. Enjoy vacating unearned wins yet again; tool, and choke on it.

I thought people associated with Georgia Tech are suppose to be smart. Now you’ve lost your ACC Championship and it will be very difficult to win another one.

This guy (Dan Radakovich), has had enough chances, get him OUT! Why is not Mark Price a basketball coach at TECh?

The NCAA representative had no right to ask Radakovich to not discuss the inquiry with the head coach. We are still citizens of the US where the accused has every right to know that he is being investigated. As usual the NCAA overstepped its bounds in what could have been a minor problem. I believe that the NCAA has many more important problems including their own organization which should demand their attention.
Incidentally, I have no attachments to Ga Tec.

City schools, Ethel Street, City of Atlanta laying off folks and not honoring retiree pensions, empty houses, the gross failures of MARTA and now, GT’s basketball and football programs, GT students OD ing and doing drug transactions out of their car trunk, and their DE slapping his gal pal around, low graduation rates for inner city players, etc.

All have one thing in common …………………..SHAME.

Good Lord, dawgfan, Buzz Buzz, Shame Abounds, Headley Lamar etc etc etc.

All the same dork, totally obsessed with everything about Georgia Tech. Tell the truth dork, you couldn’t get in could you? Your posts are totally worthless, you add nothing to any discussion you enter.

Oh and by the way, your beloved UGA has six MAJOR violations, and is pretty high on the NCAA all time dirtiest programs (tied for third all time with about ten other schools), so give your BS a rest.

I feel bad for the puppy fans they don’t have a chance in this coming season so they are over here trying to bash our program. I have a feeling we know who the source for the NCAA investigation came from. One of Burnett’s Dawg relatives. Puppydawg, do you guys have a tailback left? I figure there is still half a month left for a few more to end up in jail. UGA is sad so they have to come over here and to find something to cheer them up. Who will be your next coach when you start 0-2?

Can't spell cheat without T-E-C-H!!!

I love the audacity of the nerd fans. Their program is yet again the laughing stock of college football and forced to vacate even more wins, and all they can do is cry about UGA fans making fun of them.

Last time I checked UGA OWNS you on the football in every way possible. Best come up with some new material to deflect yet another humiliating chapter in Yech football, tools :)

One way to look at this scandal GT fans

I have a long time pal living up in Badger country in the Milwaukee area. He and I email almost every other day …………. both retired from the same firm. He is a huge
college football fan and BIg 10 fan and U of Wisconsin Badger man all the way. He hates me when UGA stomps his boys every so often in the Cap One Bowl or the Outback Bowl like we have about 3 or 4 times over the last 12-14 years.

Anway, he is simply not really schooled on the GT NCAA scandal beyond a blirp on TV and he is “unaware that GT has really any major history since the 1950s”. He does recall Bobby Dodd’s era, back in the 50s when he was a 6th grade or 7th grade middle school kid. He does recall an Orange Bowl stomping of GT in 2010 by a “slow Iowa team” but beyond that……………”GT has no real major bowl history”, he said.

Nationally, GT is just an unknown, folks. Rejoice in this fact …………… because, unless they live in Fulton County, or maybe Cobb or Dekalb, no one even cares about GT sports. Besides, in China or Sri Lanka or India or Vietnam, they do not play our brand of football, so even the great % of the GT students could care less.

See ?? The glass IS 1/2 full.

Gooooooooooooooooo Dogs, Sic em.
