Tech freshman class arrives Wednesday
The newest batch of Georgia Tech football players is arriving. After one final evening at home Tuesday, incoming freshman quarterback Vad Lee planned to decamp from his Durham, N.C., home around midnight Wednesday to begin the trek down I-85 to Atlanta.
“I probably won’t be able to sleep,” said Lee, who was to make the drive with his parents. “It’ll probably be emotional and exciting and everything else.”
The entire class is expected to report to Tech by 8 a.m. Wednesday, excluding early enrollee Trey Braun, an offensive tackle. They’ll be fitted for equipment and move into their dorms Wednesday and go through orientation Thursday and Friday. The second session of summer classes begins Monday. Lee has been keeping in touch with many members of the 23-member 2011 signing class.
“Now we finally get to spend time with each other,” Lee said. “It’s going to be an awesome experience.”
He has also been communicating with current players such as offensive lineman Will Jackson, wide receiver Stephen Hill, B-back Charles Perkins and A-back B.J. Bostic.
Lee said he has spent the summer following a workout plan put together for the freshmen by the strength and conditioning staff and trying to prepare his body for the rigors of college football. He has done what he could to study up on the Georgia Tech offense, even looking at plays on Youtube.
“Anywhere I could find information,” he said.
While plenty of fans have been clamoring for Lee to win the starting quarterback job — he faces long odds, given the two-week window he’ll have to compete with No. 1 Tevin Washington and No. 2 Synjyn Days before the team begins preparations for the opener against Western Carolina — Lee wouldn’t bite.
“I just want to prove myself and just go out and do all that I can,” he said. “I can’t really control everything else. I know I can control myself and how I perform.”

I hope Lee also has formulated plans on how to defend himself from the trash that surrounds the ghettofabulous Tech campus.
I also wonder if he’s formulated plans on concentrating on the field when he’s playing in front of less than 30k.

Yeah for football, but can we stop with all the “Boo hoo, Tech basketball is over now that Oliver is leaving!” We may only have 8 scholarship players, but they are all good players. We are talking 3 and 4 star recruits – all of them. No one expects an ACC championship, but this will be a better team than last year.

Glad to see these kids had (have) the smarts and abilities earn their way into college. It’s quite obvious there are “people” on this blog who couldn’t make it past admissions and couldn’t set foot on campus as a student. I guess they highlight of their life is finally figuring out they can change their alias on the AJC blogs and try to act like multiple participants so they can converse with themselves.
It kind of like that joke about the person who can’t get a date so the only company they keep is with the person in the mirror. I think you get the idea.

Funny stuff considering Georgia and Auburn are ones with the criminals in their own locker room!!! Georgia has now won the Fulmer Cup two of the past three years…featuring a school record 12 players arrested last year. Just today, Auburn has four of its players in the news for armed robbery of a family in a trailer. Looks like some college athletes need to worry about who they are being asked to room with much less who is in the community!!!
btw…30k fans…really? Do your research…GT averaged close to 50k which is more fans per student than UGA gets to the game. We cannot help it if we have less sidewalk fans because there is more to do in Atlanta than choose between attending a game and going cowtipping!

I happy to see these guys arrive at the flats and glad to see Vad get some fanfare, but let’s not forget there are several potentiol future stars arriving on campus today. I am really interested to see what Greene and Waller are going to do in the WR drills and can’t wait to see how Days, Menacol, McNair, and Harrell are going to perfrom in the LB spots. Errin Joe will open huge holes for the RBs and many more guys I hate to leave out but am exited to see.

My goal is to bring the Heisman, that barely eluded the Great Josh Nesbitt, to North Avenue.
Coach Pectorals Johnson has some big surprises this year.
The new fumble ruski – statue of liberty based set will shut down the critics who say that he runs a gimmick offense.
Sure, we’ll lose to the mutts 4 times while I’m in school, but the most powerful conference in America, the ACC, will fear us. It will take them another year to figure out our new offense, just like it did for the triple joke. I just pray that we get to a bowl that is shown on ESPN 360, so we don’t have another widely televised beat down, like the Orange Bowl.
I can’t wait to hear the roar of the tens of fans and the smell of free hot dogs in the air as we storm the field next year.
