Chris Jackson will be re-instated to the Georgia Tech football team if he meets conditions over the summer set by coach Paul Johnson.
Jackson, who left the team last fall and was in considerable academic trouble, met with Johnson last week, according to Rex Robertson, a mentor to Jackson and his offensive coordinator at Henry County High.
“He had to make a lifestyle change and he did that over the last five months,” Robertson said.
Jackson is just shy of the 2.0 GPA he needs to be eligible and is taking summer classes to try to clear that mark, according to Robertson. Jackson was a hotly pursued recruit coming out of Henry County and Alabama, where he played as a true freshman in 2008. He transferred to Tech in 2009 but did not play in the 2010 season after tearing his hamstring and then getting dismissed in November. At the time, Johnson said Jackson was dismissed for a combination of things.
“He and I just didn’t see eye to eye,” Johnson said.
Jackson, who came to Tech as an A-back, would play wide receiver, his high school position. Jackson has been studying video cut-ups of routes provided to him by wide receivers coach Buzz Preston. Jackson would have two years of eligibility starting with the upcoming season.
“We’re grateful to Coach Johnson,” Robertson said.

Why are people so quick to throw other people away for mistakes? Have you never made one? The bottom line is have they changed. If a person corrects their mistakes and is willing to do the right thing, then who are we to throw them away?
Matthew 18:21, 22 – Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

2.0 GPA…….
So Tech football players are only required to have a 2.0 GPA (like all NCAA regulations)
I thought Tech held their players to standards above the NCAA requirement???
Well, we can cancel the “academics, academics, academics” argument from Techies in a FOOTBALL argument.
I am glad that is over!
———————————————-
Sounds like someone who has never taken a class at Tech. We didnt say we are held to higher standards by the NCAA. but a 2.0 at Tech is a hell of a lot harder than a 2.0 at any other college in GA at least. I would say that in all honesty, a 2.0 at GT is about a 3.7+ at uga. Its not impossible, but you really have to work at it. Since the course work is more difficult, you are held to a higher standard to remain eligible.

I think you are confusing admission requirements with academic requirements after you are already in school. A 2.0 GPA is a C student. Believe me, there are a lot of C students at GT, athletes and non athletes.

Is Emory to Georgia Tech as Tech is to Georgia? Could it possibly be that the criteria and the curriculum is so different at all these schools it is hard to put a real number on how much better one school is than the other?

Dawglasville, that is true; it is not reasonable to compare liberal arts studies to engineering/science studies. For one thing, liberal arts courses are all too often graded on the subjective evaluation of the professor, whereas engineering/science courses are almost completely graded objectively on performance. It may, in fact, be harder to get a good grade in a subjectively graded course than in an objectively graded one. But that does not necessarily mean that the subjectively graded courses are more difficult or even require more study. Sometimes a subjectively graded course is a lost cause even before a student walks in the classroom door, based on the comparison of the student’s beliefs, world-view, etc. But with proper preparation, study, and performance, a GOOD and INTELLIGENT student can succeed in engineering/science courses. Too many times liberal arts students have to kiss the a** or liberal arts professors…..or sleep with them. Engineering/science students need merely to prepare and study.

I’m not saying I don’t like Richt-I do. I am appreciative of 96 wins, 2 SEC titles in 10 years.
But, he has won with defense, not offense. All us DAWGS complain about bobo ad nauseum but the facts are that the defense carried the day for us from 2001-2005 and the offense was just good enough.
We allowed 14 PPG from 2001-2005 and gave up 30 ONCE(2003 LSU SECCCG).
Now we allow 22 PPG and the offensive shortcomings are magnified.
Same as Tech. I have argued this with other Georgia folks but I trult believe that if you put CPJ in Athens right now with Grantham, we are championship caliber in no time flat.

Didn’t UGA allow conference USA their 1st ever win over an SEC team in bowls? Talk about a complete joke! Let me explain the difference to you in your lose to UCF and our loss to AF simple so that even an idiot like you could follow along.
1) UGA was a 7.5 FAVORITE..
2) GT was a 2,5 point UNDERDOG…
Now which was favored again and i think we were picked to lose by the experts but what is your lame excuse for the meltdown? You couldn’t even score a freakin TD with a top 5 pick vs conference USA!!!! You are the biggest tool! You got owned yet again, go wipe your tears and go stand in traffic loser!

Wide receivers are irrevelant at GT. This is because we do not have a real QB who throws forward passes in CPJ`s TO offense. What we have to replace the QB is an extra running back who is designated to take the snap from center. He then runs the ball himself or hands off or pitches out to the A and B backs.

Good job and luck. Tech needs a couple of Wr’s who can catch and make plays, possession rec. types. If we can throw 15 to 30 times a game and complete 60% nobody will stop the Flex bone. It will be Fridge all over again, #1 in Country with a defense this time. I still would like to see the Wishbone with a passing attack…power sweeps, lead blockers, options, deep passes, screen passes, Qb draws and sweeps, etc..In the 70’s Wishbone teams could’nt throw the ball now they can.

gt4ever, it’s obvious that you have bought into the idea that getting a bunch of 4- and 5-star recruits define a coach’s ability to recruit. Can you tell me ANY TECH COACH who has consistently brought in highly-ranked recruiting classes? Gailey had one, and even it didn’t compare to those at other schools in the south; the rest of his recruiting classes were average to mediocre. Neither O’Leary nor Ross had recruiting classes that were better than those in Athens, although I guess they were all average to excellent ones. I doubt even Dodd had highly rated recruiting classes, but I have no idea how HS players were evaluated back in that time. As CMR has proved over and over the past 3 years, and Donan before him, it’s not the pre-college ratings of the recruits that matter in the long run; it’s the ability of the coaches to bring out the best in them. Dodd could do it. Ross and O’Leary (with Friedgen’s much respected help could do it. Gaily could NOT do it. I think from what I have seen of CPJ thus far, he can do it too. Maybe for whatever reason, he cannot get those whom you think would make him a good recruiter, but if he can bring out the best in what he gets, then I’m certainly happy with it. One bad year out of the first three isn’t so bad; even Dodd had a few less than stellar years before he struck gold, and both Ross’s and O’Leary’s first couple of years stunk. Was it because they recruited 4- and 5-star HS kids? NO!!! But it WAS because they recruited GOOD athletes who fit into their systems, and both those coaches made the best of it.

I am cautiously optimistic that Jackson can make it back and make a difference for Tech’s offense, which will need all the help it can get at WR. It is also evidence that CPJ is more reasonable and compassionate than he is sometimes portrayed to be by his detractors. Chris Jackson is welcome if he meets the Coach’s…and therefore Tech’s…conditions.
