Charlie Sheen announced his arrival in Atlanta via Twitter: "I'm extremely honored that CNN has changed it's name to 'Charlie News Network'" (Special photo)
Charlie Sheen almost hit a home run in Atlanta on Thursday.
No, we’re not talking about his “Violent Torpedo of Truth” show scheduled for Thursday night.
#WINNING (Sheen) showed up to work out with Georgia Tech’s baseball team for nearly three hours on Thursday afternoon. It was arranged after ex-major leaguer Todd Zeile contacted Tech baseball coach Danny Hall.
“He was very engaging, about as nice you he could be,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said. “He interacted with our players and coaches. I think he had a good time in the batting cage. He came close to hitting one out. He hit about six right up to the wall, but couldn’t quite punch it over.”
Sheen wasn’t done after BP. He grabbed a mitt and took some ground balls and fly balls in the field.
Before leaving, Sheen gave some high fives, took pictures and chatted briefly with several Tech baseball players. We’re not sure yet what was said, but it had the players smiling and laughing.
Then Sheen, ever the showman, saw that around 100 people had gathered around the field to watch him. Sheen walked outside to the crowd, engaged in conversation, and took tons of pictures that will be showing up on Facebook at any minute.
Earlier in the day, Sheen announced his arrival in Atlanta on Twitter: “Just arrived in Atlanta! I’m extremely honored that CNN has changed it’s name to ‘Charlie News Network’ for the next 24 hours!! epic!”
Did you get your photo taken with Sheen at Georgia Tech? If so, we’d love to see the photo. CLICK HERE to upload.

The difference between Georgia Tech and Georgia is that Tech invites people of questionable character to visit and speak to their teams, but Georgia gives people of questionable character scholarships so that they may be members of their teams. Who should be more embarrassed?

All kidding aside Tech was fairly irresosible by letting him do this, but at the end of the day its no big deal. You could equate it to letting Chris Farley give your team a motivational peptalk down by the river essentially. Sheen is destined to join him sooner rather than later.

Better to have Charlie Sheen at your batting practice in Athens than to have a football roster full of felons and petty thiefs in Athens.

Of course, I’d rather have Texiera, Varitek, or Wieters taking BP with the team but that’s a little difficult to do during the MLB season.

I think it’s awesome! Coach Hall is a great coach and Tech’s baseball team is one of the best in the nation, and is the best in the state, every single year. Get ready for the season sweep again next Tuesday, leghumpers. You’re just jealous that he wasn’t at UGA.
Regardless, my best wishes to the UGA player who was hurt earlier this year and sincere hopes for a successful recovery. The rivalry is intense between fans and alumni, but these are kids who are talented playing a game that they love in exchange for a college education (regardless of how you view the quality of that education) in hopes of bettering their chances for the future. UGA has had a tough couple of years in regards to their players health and livelihood, as has Tech with the unfortunate overdose last year, please keep these kids in mind as actual people who have friends and family who care about them – enjoy the rivalry but respect the players.

Worm seriously we have had a few great black baseball players and D Hall is no racist. We just don’t get them during recruiting. John Daly is talking to the golf team today before the ACC Tourney. Smart or dumb move I could care less. I just hope he didn’t steal anything. Danny Hall needs to pull out every trick in the book to win some games and get to College World Series. Few coaches have ever so far short of expectations……he is another Mark Richt in many regards. I do realize this is an issue for UGA fans because the last team they actually had in Athens to compete for a title was the baseball team.

TOO F…ING FUNNY!
What was Farley’s characters name on SNL that did the bit? He kept pulling on his belt and SPITING on the other cast members when he did that bit. It is almost as great(IMO) and Eddie Murphy’ Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood. KILL MY LANDLORD was the greatest.

The death of common sense-a bit dramatic, but what a pathetic display of leadership by Hall.Mabye he’s having a guy mid-life experience and wanted some info on sheen’s destructive lifestyle. Coach, mentor, teacher;he has failed this miserably.Difficult to understand how anyone except a college student(been there ,done that) would defend the coaches decision. I didn’t go to tech, but I follow their baseball, very disappointed in the coach;the players-they are kids ;they will hopefully learn, but not under hall’s tuteledge

AA is why it is for a reason. The people will/would be ridiculed and lose jobs, families, and respect as they try to beat their demons. Everybody likes a COMEBACK. Hell I don’t like VICK because he KILLED, but the NFL. PETA, and some Falcon fans still think he has a message to SELL. Don’t you poeple thing Charlie has something to SELL too? C. Sheen killed a lot of Kitty cats, but he never killed a DAWG of bet illegally on the event. Hell Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Tic T, Ice Cube, and Prez Clinton F… the women and partake in Illegal drugs. JUST to name a few.

Surprised to see all the do-gooders (did not that ever applied to poodle fans) whining about Sheen. How dangerous can the guy be, unless the Jackets have female baseball players. Just another example of the dregs of all fans whining about something because it has been a generation since any major UGA sports team was relevant outside Clarke county.

I do think however think I would like to hang out in that Van by the river.LOL. I just sleep on the dock at my pond on my farm and I just don’t think it is the same. LOL
Everybody knew Charlie Sheen paid/donated something to hit BP and hang at the park. I hope that is true he gave $10k. Unfortunately that is more than some TECH Alumni have donated to the Team. I don’t give to the Basketball or Basketball other than my ticket buying requirements. Dad and I give to Football and our season ticket purchase requirement. Dad gives equally to the Academic fund that he gives to the GTAA.

Embarrassing(spelled correctly) is UGA recruits coming on campus and ROBBING the current players.Wait it is also the FACT UGA players don’t know how to use a LOCK on a locker. Hell, they are mostly for the Ghetto and should KNOW better.

Further proof of why the North Ave. tools are the trashiest institute and fan base in the nation.

Having Charlie Sheen on campus to , what, lift up the spirits of the players or bring some attention to Tech. Baseball, is like Having Obama speak to the finance committee about responsible budgeting. I think the tech. BB program is solid enough, so they do not have to allow, a person of his character to be associated with them. Can’t think of how his being there can bring any positive light to any university’s progam. I think this may have left Tech. open to become the butt of some serious jokes. Seems sort of like filling out a job application for a peace officer and listing Osama Ben Laden as a character reference, LOL.
Good luck on this one.

As a Tech grad, I agree with those who say this was not an embarrassment. If it was O.J. Simpson (assuming he got out of jail in Nevada), I understand. But, there are a number of present and former major league baseball players who are just as weird and messed up as Sheen – should they be unwelcome as well? What about Michael Vick? If he showed up, should he be banned from the park? Some folks out there just need to chill.

Brad,
With Good Ole Charlies Sheen’s image in the national spotlight the last few months, I can not see where this brings a positive image to anybody. Bet some of the states like Alabama and Tenn. are going to havce a field day with that photograph above. He looks like a poster boy from some half way house that the tech. players have decided to sponsor and help go straight.

Nerds,
Sheen is a scumbag and it is embarrassing for ANY college to host him with open arms, much less one who preaches academics above all (especially success on the football field). While we all have laughed a great deal about his “Adonis DNA and tiger blood” – I wouldn’t want my kids or my school having anything to do with the idiot. You shouldn’t either. But hey, if that’s what you want – go for it.
By the way, what does this topic have to do with high school recruits stealing from the UGA locker room? You guys are really stretching.. I guess looking at the results on the field is just too painful?

Worm,
How many white guys did Hewitt have on scholarship while he was at Tech???? Smelter is on scholarship. He played tonight and on a lot of weekday games. There are 2 other black kids in the dugout as well. I can’t ever remember seeing more than 1, if that, white guy on Hewitt’s bench. I’m sure you were all up in arms about that too, or was that not a problem for you? Don’t insinuate racism when in fact your entire mentality and perception is racism in and of itself (white people call it reverse racism and it’s far more prolific than white on black racism).

It sounds like some of you are saying that pro. sports is racist and holds back or doesn’t sign Black players. I don’t think that is the problem. In baseball especially, it takes a while usually to make any pro. type money, so folks tend to use their athletic gifts in faster reward, higher profile type sports. The minor league for football and basketball is college.
