Charlie Sheen announced his arrival in Atlanta via Twitter: "I'm extremely honored that CNN has changed it's name to 'Charlie News Network'" (Special photo)
Charlie Sheen almost hit a home run in Atlanta on Thursday.
No, we’re not talking about his “Violent Torpedo of Truth” show scheduled for Thursday night.
#WINNING (Sheen) showed up to work out with Georgia Tech’s baseball team for nearly three hours on Thursday afternoon. It was arranged after ex-major leaguer Todd Zeile contacted Tech baseball coach Danny Hall.
“He was very engaging, about as nice you he could be,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said. “He interacted with our players and coaches. I think he had a good time in the batting cage. He came close to hitting one out. He hit about six right up to the wall, but couldn’t quite punch it over.”
Sheen wasn’t done after BP. He grabbed a mitt and took some ground balls and fly balls in the field.
Before leaving, Sheen gave some high fives, took pictures and chatted briefly with several Tech baseball players. We’re not sure yet what was said, but it had the players smiling and laughing.
Then Sheen, ever the showman, saw that around 100 people had gathered around the field to watch him. Sheen walked outside to the crowd, engaged in conversation, and took tons of pictures that will be showing up on Facebook at any minute.
Earlier in the day, Sheen announced his arrival in Atlanta on Twitter: “Just arrived in Atlanta! I’m extremely honored that CNN has changed it’s name to ‘Charlie News Network’ for the next 24 hours!! epic!”
Did you get your photo taken with Sheen at Georgia Tech? If so, we’d love to see the photo. CLICK HERE to upload.

Well, he is a winner and Tech will use that formula to win the College World Series!
Seriously though, Sheen was great in Major League and he actually was able to pitch over 80 mph (not easy) and seems to have some sports in his blood. I am amazed at his age and his drinking/smoking/drug? issues that he is in good enough shape to hit a few to the base of the wall or warning track. Thats pretty impressive considering most actors couldn’t even hit a ball out of 10 pitches.
Its not really embarassing as college baseball is small potatoes. Had it been football or basketball (which Sheen has not made a movie about) then it would make no sense. Kudos to Sheen though for being fun and spending time with players and students/onlookers alike. Not all stars would do that, whether balanced or unbalanced.

This goes well beyond embarassing for Ga Tech. As an alumni, baseball season ticket holder and a financial supporter of GT Baseball, this was totally irresponsible! Yes it may have been fun for the players and coaches but there comes a time to draw the line in the sand. This individual has been nothing short of ranging idoit with his personality disorders. For the Head Coach to allow such a theatrical stunt is well beyond my comprehension. As the Head Coach, Danny Hall has a responsibility to show leadership and common sense. In my opinion, he failed miserably on both counts! Some of you may see this a being overly harsh but I just do not understand Coach Hall’s irresponsibilty in this case. I will certainly reconsider my thoughts towards financial support of the baseball program.

I agree with Mark Crisp. How could you allow Charlie Sheen to interact with the players? Sheen is a total wreck and in my opinion out of control. This reflects badly on the leadership. I guess they were hoping by allowing Sheen to take BP he would donate some money!!

The lack of leadership shown by Danny Hall never ceases to amaze me. Guess he decided to get a jump on embarrassing the program, no need to wait for the annual post-season collapse. Anyone involved with approving this ought to be shown the door before morning.

I am also a Tech alumni and I say lighten up, Francis. This is no “embarassment”. So Sheen’s not a poster boy. By all accounts he was a model citizen with the team and they all enjoyed a meaningless diversion for a little while. I’m not worried this will turn the team into crackheads and who knows…maybe it will have a positive effect on Sheen.

Oh gimme a break. This is not an embarrassment at all. It’s not like GT won the Fulmer Cup… That honor went to the other football team in the state. That’s embarrassing. My favorite Sheen character is easily Wild Thing from Major League, and I find it hilarious that he came to work out with the baseball team.

I can ONLY IMAGINE how many Techies would have absolutely LIT UP a UGA blog if this admitted prostitution and drug junkie spent the day with any of our teams.
It’s amazing how you question and judge the character of so many, then harbor somebody with a, not even questionable, pathetic character like Charlie Sheen. And on top of it all, you publicize it to show how “awesome” you nerds are.
I am always ashamed to have you Techies living and studying in my state of Georgia…… today is an exceptional day to say the least.
Now come on, bring up a rebuttal that has nothing to do with the topic…… let’s hear it!!!!
