Dollar joins Gregory’s staff

Chad Dollar has joined Brian Gregory’s coaching staff at Georgia Tech.

Dollar played at Douglass High School, where his dad, Don, coached. Chad played three seasons at South Florida before transferring to Milligan.

He has spent the past 12 seasons as an assistant coach, including on NIT champion Wichita State this most recent season. He is Gregory’s first announced hire.

“The chance to join coach Gregory, one of the top coaches in the country, and to come back home is an unbelievable opportunity for me,” Dollar said in a statement. “I look forward to helping the Georgia Tech program get to the place where it needs to be in the ACC and the nation.”

His brother, Cameron, is the head coach at the University of Seattle and starred at UCLA.

Before going to Wichita State, Dollar spent three seasons as an assistant coach under John Brady at Arkansas State (2008-10) and at LSU (2007-08). Dollar coached the 2006-07 campaign at Murray State and spent four seasons (2002-06) as an assistant at Georgia Southern. He was also an associate head coach at Eastern Kentucky (2001-02) under Travis Ford and served two seasons (1999-2001) at Western Carolina.

Dodd left GT and in 43 or 44 years GT has been to ONLY two major bowls, both the Orange in 67 and 09. Cremmins left and GT now in B Ball will become another ancient memory of fleeting fame.

ACC B ball is now a joke like it is in football. Sad.

Heck hire Wach Hyder’s great, grandson. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHA

Why would gregory hire someone that wants his job…x GT players. He “Coach Gregory” don’t want a knife in his back. Hire the best you can get and do it fast.

It’s hard to shake an odor like that.

paranoid?

Why is everyone so paranoid? Why do you assume the worst about people? Do you know that there actually are people in this world still who care about other people and want what is best for others, not just themselves? There are people out there who would actually try to help someone else have success. What about what is best for the players and who would be the best to help them develop and learn how to win games? People who get it – know that what goes around comes around and you can’t spend your life being paranoid that one of your coworkers wants your job. Every assistant coach wants to be a head coach but that doesn’t mean they will stab the boss in the back. There are still a few people out there who actual are loyal. You should surround yourself with the best staff you can get and if that means former GT players then that is who you should hire.

Congrats to GT for a great hire. Chad is a tireless worker, recruiter, and knows his X’s and O’s. He will bring a work ethic that Tech has been lacking. Plus, coach Dollar has worked his way up, unlike a lot of the “hot” coaches out there. This hire shows Gregory understands the importance of keeping Georgia talent, but also developing the talent. Smart move Gregory!

Chad was the non flashy, efficient, smart, 5′11 point guard on a high school team with future NBA and college championship experience. One might even remember his brother Cameron Dollar who came in after Tyus Edny at UCLA and had a few NCAA last minute shots as a non flashy efficient floor general. He is bringing this tradition of teaching that produced smart point guard play and all around sound basketball mechanics and skills that have allowed he and his brother to play and coach at a high level with success. I look forward to seeing this team in the next years.

No comments on spring practice in about a week. Tech needs a new beat writer. Doug you are just either lazy or just don’t care what your readers want. No new material for days says it all.

well well well, UNLV hires one of their own, Dave Rice who was an asst coach at BYU. And Rice is hiring Stacey Augmon, UNLV superstar from the glory days. Augmon will leave his assistant coaching job with the Denver Nuggets when the season is over and join Rice. Fans in Vegas are estatic over Augmon coming on board.

Now couldn’t Gregory hire Mark Price who could join the GT staff after the Golden State season is over. Or why not bring in another GT former great? What is so unreasonable about it? no brainer

After reading some of these posts, I’m wondering if the job is to hire GT alums or win bball games. Do it with good players who are good citizens and represent GT well.
I don’t care who he hires as long as the team prospers and the Institute isn’t embarrassed. We’ve had too much of that for too long.

Just sorry AJC reporting. Something new about the dawgs everyday. It appears Tech has cancelled spring football. If Doug refuses to do his job maybe someone else there can step up to the plate. I’m having to go to news sources outside of Atl. just to get updates.

The ajc needs to send apologizes to all Tech fans. Spring football is important news. You have or had a journalist who graduated from UGA, who refuses or refused to do his job as a reporter. People pay actual money for your newspaper. Don’t ever hire an UGA grad again to cover Tech.

As Tech grad, I see hire as probably black coach since coached at Arkansas State and not Arkansas where white Tech grad Frank Broyles was coach. I see SW Atl Douglas hs similar to where Favors was from. Tech needs players to stay there and play for Tech, not leave and play for NBA. So do I see a continuation of black hs to NBA talent to recruit trend Hewitt established? Where does Twech come into the picture? Gregory better hire some white Tech player/grad next and from here on out to keep Tech a school and not springboard to NBA for blacks from Atl who have no plans to serve Tech if possible for more than one year. Favors was close to hs phenom King James in hs to NBA talent, what Tech does not want. Tech could also hire a dedicated black player who played for Tech all four years. How about black player Yvonne Josef since he was the only Tech player ever to wear beard while playing. He was good. Strong dude. On one of Cremin’s early teams. Tech wouldn’t have enuf Dollars to hire Salley.

“Where does Tech come into the picture?” is what I meant to convey. As Tech grad, never Twech for Tech. At least I got 3 Bs and 3 Cs in English at Tech during all courses taught in Freshman and Sophomore years. That was in ‘69 to ‘71 though. If I wrote a word like Twech instead of Tech on a blue book exam, the Prof would have flunked me.

Hire Kenny Anderson. Neither of you have connection to the New York City talent, Kenny does, as did Cremins. Kemba Walker was the second best player in NYC and did not start for UCONN until this year(his third). He would have been a starter day 1 at Tech. Kenny ran teams at point guard in the NBA for 12 years, can’t find a better resume than that. If you don’t, you are not serious about winning nor about connecting with the former players. Time to talk the talk and walk the walk
