Joshua Nesbitt said he thinks about that bitterly cold night in Blacksburg every day.
Should he have thrown the ball? Could he have led Anthony Allen more? Should he have tried a different way to make the tackle?
It doesn’t matter now. What’s done is done. Now, Nesbitt is focused on showing scouts what he can do at Georgia Tech’s Pro Day today. He hopes to show the talent evaluators that he can play in the NFL. He hopes it’s as a quarterback, but he’s willing to play anywhere. He’s been working hard in Charlotte, N.C. since early January precisely for this day. His trainer thinks he can run a sub-4.5 40-yard dash, which will certainly get him some attention. He’s also been working on his accuracy, trying to improve what was perhaps his biggest weakness at Tech. His agent thinks he can be an asset similar to Brad Smith, who is featured in a variety of positions for the New York Jets after a standout career as a quarterback at Missouri.
Georgia Tech was rolling that night, though. The offense was moving up and down the field on Virginia Tech. The Thursday night crowd, so loud at the start of the game, was quiet.
Was this the same Jacket offense that looked so mistake-prone for most of the season?
Earlier in the game, Nesbitt sprinted 71 yards up the middle of the Hokies’ defense to give the Jackets a 14-0 lead with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter. The run also gave Nesbitt the record for career rushing yards by an ACC quarterback.
Leading 14-7, Nesbitt and the Jackets were third-and-goal on Virginia Tech’s 6-yard line.
The play called for Nesbitt to roll left and hit Allen running to the corner of the end zone.
Nesbitt saw Davon Morgan shadowing Allen, but he thought he could squeeze the pass in. Morgan cut in front of Allen, intercepted the pass and began running up the sideline. Nesbitt sprinted over and tried to push Morgan out. Instead, Morgan’s knee slammed into Nesbitt’s forearm, breaking it.
It cost him the remaining games in his career and started a new set of questions.
The arm is healthy now. Nesbitt said a few weeks ago that he feels no physical effects from the injury. Though there is a mental hangover.
“I regret it to this day and probably for the rest of my life that just being lazy on that one play,” Nesbitt said. “That’s what I think about it every day now.”

That play should have never been called.GT should have taken the field goal. It was a low percentage play and Tech had VT on the ropes. That one play spoiled the season for GT.

dawgfan-I couldn’t care less what the subject is on what you post, it’s the simple fact that you stated not to come on here (a uga blog) but you come on here (a tech blog) and post your useless nonsense every single day like it’s your job. I sometimes choose not to respond to your drivel but you keep on like a little girl whining about tech fans.
It’s that old argument- well, you post on our blogs so I’ll post on yours. Whether it’s our fans calling your players thugs or you calling us nerds who give a rats azz.
Post something with substance or move on for cryin out loud.

Joshua is going to be one of the most beloved players in GT history because he was loyal to Tech and the way he carried himself on and off the field.

Good Luck Joshua! You were a class act and a great player. With you on the field, we may have lost the game. I believe that you still have those mad skills that made you a threat. You’ll get you chance and will shine.

This guy was/is a good kid and worthy competitor – nothing not to like. I hope he does well in the NFL. I suspect he will be a success in life, regardless. College football sorely needs more like him. Go Dawgs.

Dawgfan: Your delusions of grandeur are funny. UGA had an esteemed football program in the past. Your only claim to significance now is beating GT(which if in your mind GT is so bad then that is no big accomplishment). UGA is in the same state as GT and needs to earn back the lost respect and relevance. The real problem GT fans have with UGA is their misplaced arrogance. You guys still think your great when your record the last few years says otherwise.

Nesbitt is a running back at best in the NFl. Look for him to go late to Miami to help out the Wildcat formation. The VaTech loss wasn’t his fault entirely. Yes he made mistakes. But in the end VaTech just beat the lesser Tech. Nesbitt might break out 3-4 years into his career.
Again? It has happened again?

Coach O’Leary of GT fame was found out as having a fraudulent resume and in fact, he did not play college ball or earn his Masters. he lied basically and Gt was DUPED.
It has happened again !!! Two married profs were earning salaries from GT AND at the same time were charging another major university for salary. Apparently, GT has no oversite on their staff.
This is yet one more embarassment for GT, along with Tarrent and Joey Hamilton and Reuben Houston, Drug ODs and Drunken Driving charges and Ethel Street crime and Robert Hall and spousal abuse and the exodus of GT kids leaving CPJ’s regime in droves and his failure to recruit any decent running backs and the fact that CPJ has not won a bowl game.
GT …….. the right stuff.

The Dolphins won’t waste any draft picks or FA invites on a wildcat player of any position, they WASTED a 2nd round draft pick on Pat White at QB and he took ONE HIT and is now out of the NFL.
The Dolphins are still trying to play “catch up” for not drafting Matt Ryan and wasting a 2nd round pick on Pat White, there’s no way that they’d waste a valuable Training Camp invite on a spec player like josh with no NFL-type skills.
When Coach Kung Fu Panda showed up with his gimmicky Cripple-Option Offense (play in it long enough & you’ll soon be crippled), Josh had the chance to transfer or move to Safety, he chose to stay at QB, and now he’s paying the price.
Once again, back when Teflon-Coach Fish Fry got hired (2007) I raised the thought of GT playing with Burnett & Nesbiit as the Safeties, and was vilified, now Josh WISHES he get in a “converted Delorean” and go back and do things again as a Strong Safety.
I do feel bad that Josh trusted his potential NFL career as a Safety to a slick-talking used car salesman with a gimmicky Offense.
Coach Fish Fry won’t lose one DIME, but Josh has lost any slim chance he had to make any money at the NFL Level, if he plays Str-Safety for 3+ yrs. he has good chance of getting drafted.
It is all your fault josh you made the stupid decision to put your career in the hands of Teflon-CPJ.

Misplaced arrogance?!?!? You have beaten us a grand total of ONE time in 10 freaking years but still come on here and trash UGA football. Yet WE are the ones with misplaced arrogance? Why do you feel that you have license to trash UGA football? Misplaced arrogance? Unbelievable.
I am well aware of the fact that beating your steaming pile of effing crap football program is not a big deal. Preaching to the choir there Techie. How can anybody call it a big deal when we’ve done it 16 times in the past 20 years? How can we call it a big deal when we’ve fired coaches after they beat your ACC Chumpionship overrated pile of crap team? We do not pretend it is a big deal. We simply point it out to a) make Techies cry for sport and b) shut delusional morons with misplaced arrogance like yourself the hell up.
Good day.

I like josh he is a heck of an athlete but why is he wasting time trying to be a qb? cpj did not develop him at all in the 3yrs jn played qb. To be honest woody dantzler was a much better qb prospect coming out of clem and he didnt a 30 sec shot at qb, same for ronald curry.
