Morgan Burnett honored by Georgia Senate

Morgan Burnett, a former Georgia Tech standout and current member of the Super Bowl winning Green Bay Packers,  will be honored by Georgia’s Senate today with resolution 235.

Burnett will be attending the resolution’s reading today. I hope to catch up with him later this morning.

Here’s a copy of the resolution:

5 member of the school’s football team, and ran back four interceptions for touchdowns over
6 his final two seasons; and
7 WHEREAS, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where in just three seasons he
8 intercepted 14 passes, falling just two short of setting the school’s all-time record; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Burnett earned second team All-American and first team All-ACC honors
10 as a sophomore at Georgia Tech in 2008, when he picked up seven passes and posted a career
11 high 93 tackles; and

13 as a defensive player; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Burnett, number 42 for the Packers, was a member of the 2011 SuperBowl
15 Championship team and has brought great pride and joy to his family, friends, and this state

So he was honored for nothing more than athletic ability? I sure was hoping that there was a better story behind this headline. Our state Senate needs to get back to work.

Josh Gordy from Washington County High School was also a rookie with the Packers this year. Wonder if he will get any recognition from the senate?

I guess no one in the Senate is a football fan. Morgan tore his ACL and was on IR for the year. He didn’t play most of the season and didn’t play at all in the playoffs.

By my screen name, you can tell I’m a GT fan. Having said that, there must be other people that can honored for their time and contributions and not just their athletic accomplishments. Something is backwards here.

Colin: Josh isn’t going to be honored like Morgan ’cause he’s white. This IS still the Osama administration.

Wish they would hold the honor for Morgan and pass beer and wine sales for Sunday so we can add to our enjoyment of watching Georgia atheletes like Morgan play on Sunday.

How much time (TAX PAYER paid for) did this BullSh.t take? I am a Huge Tech fan, but I am a pi.sed tax payer. Get the F to work Senate and do the JOB for fixing real problems. Lower Taxes so people have money to spend to get us out of the whole we are in. To you people that voted for any ELECTIVE( SPLOST of 400 Toll) TAX do you now know how STUPID that is? Never give the government a da.n thing because they will never give it back. All HOPE has done to to raise the cost of college so that when HOPE fails few people will be able to afford a college education.

Maybe Nesbitt would’ve had better passing numbers if Burnett had played both ways as a receiver, too.

Really, how about getting one of those resolutions with a few million dollars of “discretionary” funds attached to buy out Paul Hewitt’s contract…

At the very least, how about a resolution expelling Hewitt from the state and preventing his return?

Did Brody make the team? If so, and especially considering Morgan didn’t get to play after the Game 1 injury, then he should be so honored also.

BTW, local star from my high school district made the Broncos but was injured two seasons in a row and committed suicide.
Some young guys aren’t prepapred for the bumps in the road and us adults don’t see how they might overreact to negative events.
This could be a preventive action.
Our state pats him on the back so if another negative happens, he will still hold his head up and endure.
Probably not necessary but then I didn’t think my local star was in any risk of taking a drastic action either.

Why do you people want to know why he was honored? Obviously he was the first person in seven years to graduate from a Clayton county school wthout being arrested or shot. This is something to celebrate.

Daddy Dawg…you might be on to something! Perhaps, THIS is why he wouldn’t have fit in at uga…his resume lacked police reports!

Our system is so out tune with the problems in this state, how about you spend your time working on the concerns of the people who voted you in office. You know things like unemployment, taxes and high insurance rates because people don’t do their job to busy trying to honor football players who don’t even graduate from college and we try to make role models out of them, the crew who came up with this crap don’t need to be re-elected. Come on people get a LIFE and do your job …….. signed a Piss off voter….
