Jimmie Kitchen, a former standout at Lithonia, signed a letter of intent with Georgia Tech. He is the team’s 23rd signee.
According to jacketsonline.com, Kitchen was going to be in Auburn’s 2009 class, but there were questions about his academic eligibility.
He then signed with Tennessee State, but the NCAA Clearinghouse had an issue with an online English class he took. He never enrolled.
He began working to improve his transcript and the Clearinghouse recently cleared him.
Tech assistant Joe Speed was recruiting some other players when a coach suggested he look at Kitchens, a 265-pound defensive end.
Kitchen visited Tech, was offered and signed.
He will add more depth to Tech’s defensive line. He is the first signee in the class who is a defensive lineman.

UGA football players in the turf management program earn class credit for turning the sprinkler system on and off at Sanford Stadium, Foley Field etc. I’m not complaining, because years ago they were actually given cash for the same task. Who says Richt hasn’t straightened matters out?

I think uga gets 9 wins and ga tech gets 7, just how i see it
I know. I kind of figured that’s what you would say. Tech actually has the easier schedule next year. At least on the front end. I think UGA will need 9 wins for Richt not to be fired.

i’m not disputing the fact that you’ve seen “UGA” stickers on the lower socieo-economic classes. That’s just reality, as UGA is the main state University with the states most successful athletic programs.
What i still haven’t seen addressed is the gaggle of clunkers bearing the “GT” logo when i all i constantly hear about is amazingly rich and powerful tech grads are.

joe never got an arena ring – they lost the championship game. However, joe DID get busted…
On May 6, 2008, Hamilton was arrested by the Georgia Tech Police Department for DUI, hit and run, marijuana possession, and violation of the open container law. Hamilton resigned from Georgia Tech on May 7. On May 7, 2008, Joe Hamilton offered his resignation to Coach Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech Athletics Director Dan Radakovich.

Then, he gets caught in a sleazy motel with a one legged, transsexual, illegal alien midget from Albania with underwear around his ankles and a can of whipped cream in his hand. Yall signed a player who was refused admission by Auburn and Tennessee State. HAHAHAHA. Get off your soapbox!

apologies, let me clarify – he played in 28 games. Also, there’s this…
He made his debut as a Bulldog on October 5, 1991 against the Clemson Tigers, a game Georgia won 27-12. Zeier went on to start the final seven games of his freshman season and started every game during his final three seasons at Georgia. His tenure included a 4-0 record against Georgia Tech, a victory in the 1991 Independence Bowl over Arkansas, and a victory in the 1993 Citrus Bowl over Ohio State.

whoops, i’m wrong again…
In 2002 the Buccaneers allocated Hamilton to NFL Europe, where he led the Frankfurt Galaxy to 5-2 record in 2002 before suffering a severe knee injury (torn ACL). He spent the entire 2002 NFL season on injured reserve and was released by the Buccaneers at the end of the season.

dawgy, in one breath you seem to admit that clunkers bearing the red and black “G” logo are just fans and not grads of UGA necessarily, but then you ask why you see some clunkers with GT stickers when Tech “GRADS” are supposed to be financially well-off. I have two reasons 1) you might be seeing STUDENTS…most college students drive beaters or 2) it may just be that TECH has more non-student fans than people think! We ARE still an old Southern university and were at one time the athletic power in the Southeast. I’ve heard entire families in South GA still root for Tech as a tradition – ask people in Macon, Savannah and Augusta about that. Plenty of GT rednecks near those locales.
As a grad, my car might not impress anyone, but cars aren’t where I put my money. There’s just a lot I don’t think you’re considering.

For those comparing the path John Jenkins took to college and the path Kitchens took, Jenkins played football for 2 years while improving his grades. He hasn’t played football in a while, not listed on scout or rivals in 2009 or 2010. Congrats to the kid for getting himself in school.
