Jimmie Kitchen, a former standout at Lithonia, signed a letter of intent with Georgia Tech. He is the team’s 23rd signee.
According to jacketsonline.com, Kitchen was going to be in Auburn’s 2009 class, but there were questions about his academic eligibility.
He then signed with Tennessee State, but the NCAA Clearinghouse had an issue with an online English class he took. He never enrolled.
He began working to improve his transcript and the Clearinghouse recently cleared him.
Tech assistant Joe Speed was recruiting some other players when a coach suggested he look at Kitchens, a 265-pound defensive end.
Kitchen visited Tech, was offered and signed.
He will add more depth to Tech’s defensive line. He is the first signee in the class who is a defensive lineman.

That’s funny. Half the comments are from a bunch of obnoxious UGA fans. Typical for them to stay on Tech blogs. Oh yeah. Just because he was a bad student when he was recruited in 09 doesn’t mean he didn’t try harder to get his grades up. Can anyone on here verify that his academic grades are still terrible. I figured UGA fans would just assume that since they assume this years “Dream Team” will do something different than all the other top 5 recruiting classes they’ve had.

“Boe was among three Georgia Tech graduates on the mission, which included crew members Lt. Col. Robert “Shane” Kimbrough and Sandra Magnus.” -AJC
Don’t be running smack about Tech… It is an elite Institution in Technology and Engineering. Life at Tech does not revolve solely around football, but being an academic all-star that has good overall athletics. Take football away from UGA and what do you have?

Really sad to see so many goobers dedicating their intelligence to the failure of some young athlete one who may really be trying to do better. Hopefully he will do alright at Tech both as a player and as a student. Something the goobers here probably can not do.

the only reason this is so funny is the high and mighty stance you Techies take when comparing athletes when we all know that you would take every player Ga signed if you they would just look your way. If you would just admit that your problems are not related to your academics you wouldnt be such easy targets. Stanford, Duke, and Rice have all won natl championships in major sports this decade..whats your REAL problem? if you can answer that, maybe you guys might start geting some decent athletes.

More delusional drivel from the CPJ kool-aid drinkers!
Something is very strange about this SA.
If he were just one class shy of the NCAA Clearinghouse OK’n him to play, then WHY didn’t he just take that one English Class in summer School and then Start his career back in Fall 2010; there’s no need to not play FB for what will be 21 months by the time he gets to GT over one tiny little class.
He could have played at a Hargrave type of school and continued on the FB field w/o losing any eligibility, so WHY would he suit around for one FULL YR. over just one class?
BTW, all the smug, elite GT types (not me I’m a realistic GT alum) that pokes fun at the factories over SAs taking online courses, GT has just taken in this SA that has taken an online course, and if he has taken the one that the NCAA disallowed, then it is likely that he was taken more online courses.
Brick by brick that phony wall of Academic Eliteness is being slowly dismantled.

BTW, if he’s still 265lbs. after taking what was basically a RS yr., then he’s not likely to get much bigger which makes him a “career tweener”, and not likely to help in GT’s 3-4 def., he’s not a LB and he’s too small to play DE, a career-tweener that won’t help GT win MNCs.
Also those comments above are bogus as hell, if he wasn’t able to play at Auburn for Academic Reasons, then Tenn. St. is also an NCAA School, so that’s why the clearinghouse dinged him there also.
In summary there’s a good reason he was headed to TENN ST.
The GT SID Dept. is trying to spin this as if GT “stole” an Auburn recruit, when it is very clear that this is not a case of that.
Basically the GT Media is trying to spin a sub-standard recruit into a legit BCS-level Recruit, I’m not falling for that, I can see through the BS.

First of all, Tech gets decent athletes. The three programs you listed are only good at one sport. Duke and Stanford (with the exception of this years football team) are only basketball schools. Rice, we all know, is a baseball school. By the way, What UGA team has won any national championship this decade or even in the last 30 or so years…..? I thought so.

Not being cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse has nothing to do with grades. It has to do with a specific set of courses that you have to take and pass to meet minimum requirements. Apparently one of the courses he took on line did not get accepted so he didn’t meet the
Clearing House requirements. You can have a 4.0 and perfect SAT score and if you are missing one of the classes required you don’t pass the Clearing House. He made a mistake and corrected it. I’m sure he had the grades and SAT scores to get into Tech and be successful, otherwise why would the coaches bring him in knowing he is going to have academic problems. Good luck Jimmie and welcome to Tech. Also, please read all the negative comments from UGA fans and remember them and then take it out on them on the field.
