ACC schedule is coming out today

The 2011 ACC football schedule will be coming out at 2 p.m. today.

Here’s what we already know about Georgia Tech’s schedule:

After opening with a Thursday night Sept. 1 home game against Western Carolina, the Yellow Jackets will play at Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 10 and then will host Kansas on Sept. 17. Tech will end the regular season at home against the Bulldogs on Nov. 26. That completes Tech’s non-conference schedule.

The rest of Tech’s schedule:

  • ACC Home: Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia Tech
  • ACC Away: NC State, Virginia, Miami, Duke
  • The Yellow Jackets went 6-7 last season.  Tech lost several standout players from last year’s team, including quarterback Joshua Nesbitt, B-back Anthony Allen and middle linebacker Brad Jefferson. The team must also replace three starters on the offensive line and the entire secondary.

Here is some info on Tech’s non-conference opponents:

    Western Carolina

Sept. 1 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

2010 record: 2-9 overall, 1-7 in the FCS Southern Conference.

Last year’s result: Did not play.

Tech coach Paul Johnson is a WCU alum (class of ‘79). WCU averaged 16.5 points and allowed a whopping 34.5. The rushing attack was led by Decatur native Michael Johnson (611 yards), who will be a junior. The team was quarterbacked by Zac Brindise, a transfer from South Carolina. He passed for 1,405 yards and seven touchdowns last season as a junior. After the season, coach Dennis Wagner fired offensive coordinator Keith Heckendorf and tabbed himself as the play-caller.

    Middle Tennessee State

    Sept. 10 in Murfreesboro

2010 record: 6-7 overall, 5-3 in the Sun Belt.

Last year’s result: Tech won 42-14 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

This will be Tech’s first visit to Murfreesboro, Tenn. Dual-threat quarterback Dwight Dasher is gone, but the team returns Logan Kilgore (540 passing yards) and Jeff Murphy (395 passing yards), who each started three games last season. The team averaged 26.5 points and allowed 28.1 last season.

    Kansas

Sept. 17 at Bobby Dodd Stadium

    2010 record: 3-9 overall, 1-7 in the Big 12.

Last year’s result: Tech lost 28-25 in Lawrence, Kan.

The loss in Week 2 last season set off alarms for Tech fans. After all, the Jayhawks were beaten in their season-opener by a FCS team. In the second year of Turner Gill’s regime, Kansas will bring its most productive quarterback, running back and wide receiver to Atlanta: Jordan Webb (1,195 passing yards), James Sims (742 rushing yards) and Daymond Patterson (487 receiving yards). The Jayhawks lost three of the best defensive players, but will return linebacker Steven Johnson (team-leading 95 tackles). Kansas averaged 17.1 points and allowed 34.4 last season. Both were among the worst in the FBS. This will be the Jayhawks’ first game at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

    Georgia

Nov. 26 at Bobby Dodd Stadium

2010 record: 6-7 overall, 3-5 in the SEC.

Last year’s result: Tech lost 42-34 in Athens.

The Bulldogs have defeated the Jackets two consecutive seasons. Tech dominated last year’s game on the stat sheet, but four turnovers were its undoing. The Bulldogs return quarterback Aaron Murray (3,049 yards, 24 touchdowns) and a big question mark at running back, where incoming freshman Isaiah Crowell, one of the nation’s most sought-after running backs, could provide an answer. The Bulldogs lost wide receiver A.J. Green, who caught eight passes for 97 yards in last year’s game. Will Georgia’s 3-4 defense improve under second-year coordinator Todd Grantham?

Georgia Tech has lost 5 of their last 6 football games, only beating Duke.

“Tech dominated last year’s game on the stat sheet, but four turnovers were its undoing”

I guess it’s easy to forget UGA had 4 turnovers of their own huh??

Regardless, the game was sloppy, which tends to be a trend in the Clean Old Fashioned Hate. Unfortunately it’s used as an excuse way too often.

I really wish our 2 schools could be highly ranked at the same time and bring a little National spotlight on our bitter rivalry. We could really have an Auburn/Alabama like southern jewel of a College Football game every year.

Can anybody imagine a COFH game both going in undefeated with BCS implications…..

Good luck in Spring Practice, nerds. Get your QB woes fixed and we will focus on our RB woes.

There would be no shame in losing to Boise. However, I do not think it will happen.

I am just glad UGA has a set of balls strong enough to schedule decent BCS OOC teams on a consistent basis, in addition to the standard cupcake or two. Makes it a LOT more fun.

GT would have Auburn almost every year, but Auburn has no desire to play us anymore. It’s usually a loss for them and beating us (as much as I hate to say it an average team) does nothing for them. Renewing the Alabama rivalry in a few years will be fun. Everyone seems to forget GT is referenced in Bama’s fight song…

“Tech dominated last year’s game on the stat sheet…”

    UGA total yards: 425

    Tech total yards: 512

Of course the Techie puppet Roberson makes no mention of how Tech had absolutley no answer whatsoever for Aaron Murray and our passing game. Murray completed 79% of his passes and registered a whopping 14.3 yards per attempt. UGA scored fast and often. Meanwhile, Tech ate up a bunch of clock with its archaic offense but struggled to get in to the endzone, exactly what you DO NOT want to do against a quick strike offense like Georgia’s. And of course in true Paul Johnson fashion, he had absolutley no effing clue what to do with the game on the line and only minutes left on the clock. 3 years on the job and Tech’s hurry up offense is still a complete and utter joke. Genius my azz.

    Thanks.

    To All Jackets:
Why sould UGA even agree to play GT? Whats in it for UGA? If UGA wins its not evel a blip on anyones radar, Lose and UGA is the laughing stock. Sort of like when UGA plays Ga Southern. Yeah CPJ, UGA gave your southern teams a shot when GT ran scared.

don – you can look at the record of 9 out of 10 games, however, a lot of the recent games in this series that has been going on 1893 (one reason the game is still played, because it’s a long, on-going in-state feud that regardless who you are, people look forward to) have been legitimately close or good games. No one can sit and call these games blow-outs or dominations – i know GA fans like to think that, but in watching the game, stats, and potential chances (fumbles, just missed passes) that could have changed the game – there’s no reason this game wouldn’t still be played.

Ramblin’, Tech fans like to think that these games come down to a few fumbles and “just missed passes.” Just a few unlucky breaks. That’s all. When you’ve only won ONCE in 10 years its kind of hard for anyone to take that seriously.

And its not just 9 out of 10. Its also 16 out of 20 and 23 out of 30. We own you like a rented mule. Always have and always will.

Interesting that somebody actually thinks THUGa CONSISTENTLY plays quality OOC foes. OK State two years ago, nobody his past year, Boise (a LATE SPECIAL addition next year), and yet they dropped Oregon off future schedules. Where is the consistency there? Not saying that Tech does much better, but Tech HAS played Notre Dame many times, Arizona, and various SEC schools (including Auburn). If you look back over the past 20 years, you won’t see much of an OOC schedule for the mutts.

dawgfan, if you want to live in the past, then go back 40, 50, 60+ years. The series was either tied or led by Tech for most of that time, so you certainly cannot claim that THUGa has ALWAYS owned Tech. The past 30+ years, yes, but definitely not prior to that.

dawgfan – so you’re telling me you’ve been bored to tears watching these games? This pompous attitude you put forward is ridiculous (definition: characterized by an ostentatious display of dignity or importance – crap – do i need to define ostentatious now?) and the fact that half the tech blog is already filled up with u uga fans – many of which never even attended the school but were told you had to bark by your parents because there was never any hope of your making a logical decision in your lifetime – you’re not that big and mighty – play someone of relevance and win the game and maybe you’ll have a better leg to stand on. When was the last time you did anything of significance? besides beating tech of course – because in your arguments, that obviously doesn’t count

Dawgfan, GT ties UGA in the longest winning streak so the “always have and always will” comment isn’t true. GT left the SEC largely because of teams oversigning (See Bobby Dodd’s book) and UGA was considering it too. Since leaving the SEC we can’t really compete for recruiting. “School is really hard and you’re most likely going to fail out, so we’ll have to redshirt you your freshman year regardless of your talent level. Then, if you can take the academics, good, because you most likely won’t play in the NFL.” That is what we look like to a recruit. Then the ones that can take the academic rigors can also get a Stanford or Notre Dame (Vaughters and Tuitt) education so they would prefer to go to those schools if they aren’t interested in engineering. When we somehow get lucky enough to get someone of NFL potential we are really good. You guys have NFL talent all of the time and do nothing with it

yeah, well I had a nice long post written out but I guess the GT puppet Robinson blocked it. BTW don’t say stupid sh$t like that to me until you read the stupid sh$t that your fellow Nerds say. For example look at what “Brock” had to write, then look at what Winklevoss wrote. If what I wrote is so mindblowing then your brain should have exploded after that stupid sh$t that they wrote. To be a “better school”, you guys sure are dumb.
