Georgia Tech will open its 2011 football schedule with a Thursday night game against Western Carolina on Sept. 1, according to WCU. The rest of the ACC’s football schedule may be coming out this week. Georgia Tech’s opponents are already known:
2011
The Catamounts went 2-9 overall, 1-7 in the tough Southern Conference last season. They averaged 16.5 points and allowed a whopping 34.5. The rushing attack was led by Decatur native Michael Johnson (611 yards), who will be a junior. The team was quarterbacked by Zac Brindise, a transfer from South Carolina. He passed for 1,405 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. After the season, coach Dennis Wagner fired offensive coordinator Keith Heckendorf and tabbed himself as the play-caller.
Tech coach Paul Johnson is a WCU alum (class of ‘79). The Catamounts are 0-4 against Tech, losing their last meeting in 1994.
Tech has won four consecutive season-opening games. It last lost to Notre Dame 14-10 in 2006 at Bobby Dodd.

GStateBen, why all the hate? There are a lot of factors that go into scheduling, and I wish the games weren’t at the same time, but GT didn’t schedule this to do anything to GA State. It’s possible — even LIKELY — that the initial discussion and planning for this game was done BEFORE the GA State game. (I have no idea, but it’s certainly possible.)
I’d like to see GA State do well and will go to some games when GT isn’t playing at the same time, and I know a lot of Tech fans who feel the same way. You do know that Curry coached at GT, right? And he has nothing but good things to say about Tech. If you want support for your program, then put down the hatorade!

A Quote from Bobby Dodd:
_____________________________________
“I just could not compete with those damn state universities. And Auburn is just as easily a state university. They could take these same boys we couldn’t take, who wanted to come and play for me. And it just broke me down. I couldn’t beat’em. You can just outcoach’em some of the time, brother. Better football players will beat you.”
_____________________________________
Despite that Quote from Dodd roughly 50 yrs. ago, there are still too many delusional, idiotic GT Fans that beelieve that Teflon-CPJ can take lesser Talent and work miracles with it.
At some point GT needs to get serious about its FB Program and get better players, there are enough of those better players that can major in Bus. Admin. that can play FB at a high level, but GT has to make itself a more desirable place for those types of players to want to major in Bus. Admin at GT.
Coach Dodd knew what Ol’ Wrecks has always known, the shame is that the majority of the GT Fanbase hasn’t learned it yet.

Wrex you do know that you are hating on CPJ for recruiting what you are calling lower level talent then posting quotes you say are from Dodd about him not being able to get high level recruits and he was one of the greatest coaches around? Maybe the rest of us have learned over the years that GT is not and will never have classes like UGA, Bama, or FSU and that we are OK with that. These schools have no problem admitting anything and everything and yes it pays off in football but they forget about these kids as soon as they are no good to the program and could care less what happens to them off the field.

Well it looks like a favorable schedule. Most of the hard games at home and easier ones away. No excuses for Johnson this year. Carolina will be the toughest home game followed by VT. I’m not sure GT has the talent for a winning season but Johnson is done if they don’t.

wow GDBurdell I really respect your opinion since you are obviously not biased. Clemson will be starting a new QB with Boyd, though I do think he is good, and the defense that gave GT fits is gone. Maryland is a wait and see for both teams and UNC has not found a way to stop GT yet, save your breath about the NCAA and the suspended players. VT will be looking for a new QB and how you list them as a big loss when GT was dominating that game until lossing Nesbitt and still almost came back once Washington got some rythem going amazes me. Miami depending on when the schedule places them and how quickly they take to the new coach is an unknown. NC State is another program that has to rebuild around a new QB if Wilson leaves. I will admit GT has to fix a whole bunch of things, but the D really should be better but special teams and offense are a wait and see. The ACC as a whole could be open next year just because of new coaches and QBs. Nice job on not knowing how to post a link by the way.

PJ is looking at a three win season…no Nesbitt, no passing, no D (again) and no ACC opponent not devoting time to prep for kicking the sh it out of tek.

BYRDDAWG,
Nice try but the FBI is not looking for Houston the US Marshals are and that is only because they felt he fled the state. If you can find the link putting him on the FBIs most wanted list please post it I checked te FBI most wanted list and he did not come up. The FBI has slightly more important investigations going on and had nothing to do with the investigation of Houston for his idiotic and thug actions. Now since you decided to be negative and show your lack of knowledge please read the following story about a star UGA player that stole millions and was actually on the FBI most wanted list. By the way GT tried to seperate itself from Houston and the fans wanted nothing to do with him. The only way he got back to GT was by a lawsuit. Good night all. http://www.enewspf.com/index.php/latest-news/police-reports/16996-former-uga-football-star-and-nfl-player-arthur-marshall-sentenced-to-69-months-in-prison-for-mortgage-fraud
