Georgia Tech will open its 2011 football schedule with a Thursday night game against Western Carolina on Sept. 1, according to WCU. The rest of the ACC’s football schedule may be coming out this week. Georgia Tech’s opponents are already known:
2011
The Catamounts went 2-9 overall, 1-7 in the tough Southern Conference last season. They averaged 16.5 points and allowed a whopping 34.5. The rushing attack was led by Decatur native Michael Johnson (611 yards), who will be a junior. The team was quarterbacked by Zac Brindise, a transfer from South Carolina. He passed for 1,405 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. After the season, coach Dennis Wagner fired offensive coordinator Keith Heckendorf and tabbed himself as the play-caller.
Tech coach Paul Johnson is a WCU alum (class of ‘79). The Catamounts are 0-4 against Tech, losing their last meeting in 1994.
Tech has won four consecutive season-opening games. It last lost to Notre Dame 14-10 in 2006 at Bobby Dodd.

GT is picked at 150-1 chances of winning the pathetic ACC. Amazing, given how lousy ACC is. If GT played in big boy ball it might be like 300-1.
UGA with all the negativity??? 50-1 in THE BIG BOY SEC, home of the NC ever year.
150-1 in the ACC illustrates how the sporting world views CPJ. NO RESPECT. NONE.

Actually, if the O’leary games ewre played under today’s official review rules, then he would’ve only won 1 time against uga. But who cares, I certainly don’t. Nothing like a 9-1 stretch to erase memories of a fluke streak.
And yes Ramblin, any jabroni can google names to find out about arrests on football teams. Who cares?
Try winning. It feels good.
And whats the point of playing on Thurs night if no one can watch it?

Not that I expect trolls to be able to read properly but it’s actually 150-1 to win the MNC, not the ACC.

URArrogant…yeah, and at UGA’s opener, there will be 92000, of which 70000 will be exactly like the guy I saw this morning with the block “G” all over his pickup truck. When I mentioned his favorite team, he grinned a toothy grin then proudly rolled up his shirt sleeve to show off his block “G” tattoo. Of course, he was not a grad of UGA, but did say, “Ah’m just a fan.” LOL.

Footballrules, actually, there will only be 75000 at THUGa’s opener, since it will be at the Dome against Boise State. But the percentage of those typical mutt fans will probably be what you said. How embarassing for a national TV audience, plus however many guests come from Idaho, to have to see those people and think they are representative of all southerners.

The ONLY time I’m OK with playing a lower-division school is for opening day. It’s still a no-win situation, however: you either win by a heap of points and don’t get tested, or you come out flat and get upset. Still, a bad day of football is better than a good season of Hewitt-coached basketball.

If UGA embarrasses you so much and the South at the National level. Then your problem is solved very easily. Turn to a different channel when UGA matches up with Boise St.
If you have problems with that, check wth your children they usually do much better with the newer age electronics. But usually a remote control is not that hard to figure out.

the reason why they watch Detroit is not b/c of Stafford, who is injured all the time, it’s b/c of Calvin Johnson who makes plays and is a highlight reel everytime he catches the football.

This just reinforces the fact that Tech has slipped even further into the “mid-tier” program with the likes of Southern Miss, Buffalo, and Miami (Ohio). Anytime a self respecting D-1 program plays on a Thursday night, it shows their lack of attendance as well as low television ratings. CPJ has got to go.

Thank you for making my point. It gets old watching some UGA fans come on GT blogs daily and bring up the same old played out stuff. As long as trolls like those come on here saying stupid stuff I will simply show them how stupid they are by using a simple toll like google. I could see if it was relevant to the topic but this is simply about GTs schedule and opening game so why bring it up?

Full Metal, you are obviously the mutt trolling the Tech blogs. And you still didn’t answer my question about Auburn and Oregon. Hell, virtually every school in the country outside perhaps the Big 10 schools, plays Thursday night games. THUGa just thinks they are above such scheduling, but with the newest SEC TV contract, from what I have heard, every SEC team will be required to schedule Thursday games.

I have an idea that DRad scheduled this game on Thursday, even without TV, because the only other competition in the Atlanta sports market would potentially be the Braves, depending on where they play that particular night. It’s tough to draw a crowd for a team like W Carolina, when there are better games to watch on the tube.
