Georgia Tech will open with a Thursday-nighter

Georgia Tech will open its 2011 football schedule with a Thursday night game against Western Carolina on Sept. 1, according to WCU. The rest of the ACC’s football schedule may be coming out this week. Georgia Tech’s opponents are already known:

2011

  • ACC Home: Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia Tech
  • ACC Away: NC State, Virginia, Miami, Duke
  • Nonconference Home: Kansas, Western Carolina, Georgia
  • Nonconference Away: Middle Tennessee State

The Catamounts went 2-9 overall, 1-7 in the tough Southern Conference last season. They averaged 16.5 points and allowed a whopping 34.5. The rushing attack was led by Decatur native Michael Johnson (611 yards), who will be a junior.  The team was quarterbacked by Zac Brindise, a transfer from South Carolina. He passed for 1,405 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. After the season, coach Dennis Wagner fired offensive coordinator Keith Heckendorf and tabbed himself as the play-caller.

Tech coach Paul Johnson is a WCU alum (class of ‘79). The Catamounts are 0-4 against Tech, losing their last meeting in 1994.

Tech has won four consecutive season-opening games. It last lost to Notre Dame 14-10 in 2006 at Bobby Dodd.

As a Georgia State fan this stinks. We got 30K fans at our first Thursday game last year but averaged less then 15K in all other games. The best solution is for Tech to host GSU in future Thursday night openers.

What a pathetic schedule.
Should be a minimum of nine wins.

Love the Thursday Night opener. We need a huge crowd for this one and get the season started on the right note. The rest of the games make for a dynamite home schedule.

I don’t think we can afford to let Vad sit out a year, he will have to learn on the run.
UGA QB question: What ever happened to the sure thing David Greene?

404, I believe THUGa is the permanent home for it. They have no competition, so it was decided to leave it there full time.

The biggest “patsy” on UGA’s schedule every year is the one on thanksgiving weekend. As the record shows..

the sure thing David Greene?

David was a 3 star coming out of high school and redshirted, then overachieved at UGA. Never was considered NFL material but he sure won a lot of games in college.

Awesome, I love Thursday nite games.

Usually when I leave the library late at nite, I worry about getting assaulted. But with the late games there is always a crowd around so I don’t get as scared.

To all of you Tech Fans. The biggest “patsy” on UGA’s schedule every year is the one when they play ” TECH “. Look at the last 10 seasons: UGA 9 Tech 1. Now when you all grow up maybe you can carry on a good conversation.

Kenny,

Not all the Tech folks are like supersize and “404″.

Don’t feed the trolls and they usually go away.

I have had to limit and beat down my inner redneck that still hangs around. It is really difficult not to get into a contest with them.

I save my best shots for yellow fuzz because he truly is a douche.

Thursday Night against WCU. Guarantee to have a lot of empty seats! Out of towners will stay away…Way to go Athletic Dept! One Thursday night game a year is enough, should have been a Sautrday night game.

Only a couple of notes here

Whether a college QB, say one from UGA, or GT or Alabama ever, ever, ever plays a down of NFL ball is of no concern to 100% of that school’s graduates. Allow me to repat that: no cnoncernt to the school’s alumni. None. To use this so called NFL comp as a player standard is dumb. Sort of like saying a pilot for Delta is certainly good enough to go right into navigating a moon launch. Dumb.

Now, by the time of the Western, SE by SW NC game, maybe Stephon Tuitt will have come to his senses and come back to GT.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

CSS TV here in Atlanta said the “2011 GT result in recruiting was disamal, as none of the so called D linemen is a true NG”. Another dismal ACC year for GT because the sad ACC IS better. NC is much improved and Clemson and Miami and Va Tech and FSU. GT will be again in a minor, minor bowl.

UGa is lousy. CMR is a lousy coach. UGA palyers are worthless. Did I cover it all?

If true ………….. then, um, ah, where does that leave GT with 1 win in 10 tries and soon to be one win in 11 tries??????

This result says it all.

Oh, yeah. To lose by 8 IS WORSE than to lose by 1.

Another assault?

Yet one more valid comp for GT and UGA

CPJ is a graduate of Western Carolina. His teams reflect that talent level too.

UGA’s Mark Richt is a graduate of THE U. UGA has a winning tradition similar to the U but UGA’s is much, much deeper, spanning nearly 100 years.

CPJ coaches like he is competing with Elon College and Davidson and College of Charleston.

Now we know why.

At least this gives some of those recruits that Tech took away from Western Carolina a chance to play against the team they almost signed with till they got a D-1 ? offer. And to those who signed anyway with WCar, they will be able to show out to CPJ

Are there seriously Tech fans that believe you’ll win 9 games this Fall?

•ACC Home: Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia Tech – 1-3 at best there.

•ACC Away: NC State, Virginia, Miami, Duke – Should go 2-2

•Nonconference Home: Kansas, Western Carolina, Georgia – 2-1 is very likely.

•Nonconference Away: Middle Tennessee State – Better be a win.

That’s 6 wins people. A bowl game will get you a possibility at a 7th win.

@Ramblin Man, As you put it UGA may struggle to beat Tech but in the end they do win.

Just a thought for you: If UGA is so bad and the SEC Conference is so bad, how many champions have come from the ACC in the 13 years of the BCS? Let me help you out: SEC is 7-0 in the BCS where is TECH at and why did TECH leave the SEC back in the day? Could it be they could not stand the heat and got out of the kitchen?

It’s true that a win is a win, no matter the score, and a loss hurts, no matter how close the game. BUT, all of you mutts bragging about 9-1 against the Jackets need to realize that 8 of those 9 games COULD have gone either way. They were all close enough to be considered very competitive matchups. Sometimes luck, 4 years a lousy QB, sometimes just not quite enough effort accounted for those losses to the mutts. And those games were against THUGa teams with some of their best players every. But like I said, a loss is a loss, and all of us Tech fans concede that fact.

Kenny, Dodd pulled Tech out of the SEC for two reasons—-misguided greed, thinking Tech could become the Notre Dame of the south, but MORE IMPORTANTLY because of the practice among othe SEC schools of dropping kids from scholarship simply because they wanted to give a scholarship to somebody else. Dodd NEVER revoked scholarships. When Tech left the SEC, we had winning records against ever school in the conference except Bama and UT, so it sure wasn’t a fear of competition.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

February 7th, 2011

“Where are UGA’s NC’s??”

You nerds fail to mention that we play in the SEC, where our recruiting class is NEVER the top recruiting class in the conference. We get beat by teams that are expected t beat us. We beat you, like we are expected to.

The fluke of 08′ happened….. But it was just that. A fluke. You play ANY two teams head to head 10 times, the little brother will usually win at least 1. And that’s all you got. 1.

9-1
Mark Richt OWNS you.

@GStateBen,

That’s why they play the games. Maybe your 6 win prediction is right. I’m guessing not. We will see. Either way i’m pretty excited to see our young players get a chance to play this year. It should bring a spark to the team that was missing last year. If nothing else maybe our team won’t sleepwalk through every game this year.

Kenny I said nothing comparing SEC and ACC fact is UGA should blow GT out of the water considering how each recruits and yet they fail to do so. I would get into the debate on why GT left the SEC, but that topic has been beat to death and meaningless to the topic. I was simply pointing out that to say GT is UGAs patsy game is stupid and you tried to turn it into an SEC vs ACC thing.
