Nate Hicks out

Georgia Tech center Nate Hicks will miss the next 2-3 weeks after having his appendix removed Thursday morning. He is averaging 1.6 points and 2.4 rebounds a game.
The Yellow Jackets will host Maryland on Sunday.
Hicks is having a rough week. He suffered a broken nose in practice on Monday when it was hit by a teammates’ elbow.
In addition, Glen Rice has flu-like symptoms but is expected to play against the Terrapins. Kammeon Holsey was sick last week and wasn’t able to travel to the game at Virginia.

It’s amazing you can have your appendix out and be playing college basketball 2 to 3 weeks later, and practicing sooner than that.

Oliver I think has been adjusting to playing a different position. He’s really developed some scappiness as a result. We won against the Hokies in spite of average shooting nights by Shumpert (what he says) and Rice. Also Morris failed to get going though he has impressed. The more who contribute, obviously the better our chances.

Talked to Marvin at IHOP this morning. He had on nice casual clothes without any team logos. He said he was tired from all the attention from coaches and the press. He was eating with Otis Cleveland, his brother Garnett, his mother Katie and his girlfriend, Michelle. Non of them were wearing any items depicting college teams. Otis said Marvin would reveal what his choice would be by showing the tatoo Charles Garrett had put on his arm at Hayes Corner after lunch. Michelle said she knew as did Otis,Garnett and Katy, what school he would choose and that people were going to be real suprised. I will be at Hayes for the announcement. They were driving the new Oldsmobile and it had Ohio State,Michigan,Miami,USC,FSU,GT,Missouri,Alabama,LSU and Rice stickers and decals on it. Most notable was the Auburn pompoms on the antennae. When asked about all the stuff on the car, Marvin just laughed. Katie said the car was hers and she could put any damn thing she wanted to on it. Otis said they just hadn’t had an opportunity to get it cleaned up but they hoped to before going to Hayes Corner at lunch for the announcement.

Marvin Jr. is at the podium wearing a red UA shirt and jeans with a black ball cap with the name Fieldale on it. He is surrounded by Otis and Maude Cleveland,Garnett McCollum,Katie McCollum,George Johnson and Opal Farmer. Otis has on a GT cap as does Garnett, who is also wearing a GT Jacket. Katie has an Ohio State sweatshirt and Oregon cap on. Now Marvin is taking off his jacket to reveal the tatoo of the school of his choice. It is on his right arm. It is an ear of yellow corn!!!! Marvin has also put on a Nebraska cap!!!! Marvin is going to the cornhuskers!!!! Nebraska gets Marvin McCollum Jr.

Dabo Swinney said “Well, I’ll be a spotted hawg” when Marvin revealed his corn tatoo. Marvin crushed a lot of teams hopes when he committed to Nebraska. “I just wanted to go where I could get a quality education” Marvin told the huge crowd. He added that “I am glad to get this done and Michelle and I look forward to living in Nebraska. I was torn between Michigan,Kent State,GT,Rice and Nebraska but I made the right choice as my education will mean a lot. Michigan was probably my second choice as I like the people there. I hope to make an immediate impact and am thrilled to be a cornhusker”. Marvin kept showing everyone his tatoo of an ear of corn and yelling Go Cornhuskers. Larry Gadivear of Nebraska stated”weare proud to be Marvin’s choice and realize this is without doubt the most prestigious signing in the history of collegiate sports.”

Congratulations Marvin.Would have loved to see you play at GT but you should do well at Nebraska. One question I have is if you are really interested in a quality education why did you choose Nebraska over GT? I mean you thought Michigan,Kent State, Rice and Nebraska would offer a better chance than GT?

Maybe somebody told Marvin he’d have to pass a calculus class to graduate from Tech.
