Georgia Tech will play Air Force in tonight’s Independence Bowl here in lovely Shreveport, La.
With the single game left, it’s time to start looking ahead. Let’s do a mailbag that I’ll publish in the blog next Monday. Post your questions in the comments section below about the team, the players or the coaches by Friday and I’ll do my best to answer.
If you’d prefer, email me your question(s) at droberson@ajc.com.

You have to put this one squarely on the offense and special teams. Both of those are on Johnson and he has to pull it together quickly or his ass is in the hot seat. The defense played very well and there is absolutely no way this is put on them. Johnson had better get this in order quickly or his will be a short tenure.

You forgot to add that after THREE RECRUITING CLASSES, when CPJ’s 1st Punt returner went down, that he could not find ANYONE on scholly to catch a friggin’ punt to prevent his Team from losing the game.
So much for that “Genius” tag that the Kool-Aid drinkers want to bestow upon him.
I find it funny that the ESPN announcers used the Game as a 3-hr. infomercial as to WHY Air Force’s version of the Triple-O is better than CPJ’s and then they went on to win the game to boot.
I wonder what Vad Lee thinks about the announcer’s comments about him having a much lesser shot at the NFL playing for “Fish-Fry-Johnson”?
I’ve read your Blog BTW, your research is worthy reading for all members of the GT fanbase.

“keen observer” nails it, or at least a reasonable bit of it. Either hire actual WR & ST coaches or put CPJ on the road, because what’s being done currently is an embarrassment. Of course unless Johnson magically develops the ability to identify and recruit legitimate D1 talent instead of the current collection of glorified I-AA “talent” then that only delays the inevitable anyway. Can a Bill Lewis era disaster really be far from happening? Undertalented & undercoached ain’t no way to go through life son.

like it or not, Gailey never had a losing record, you cannot be one demensional at this level of football. Seven points against Air Force, let me repeat that, 7 points against Air Force. Absolutely PATHETIC, the time for excuses is gone, DRad needs to Johnson to make changes or needs to be gone, he is 0-3 in bowl games and in all three we looked awful

I’ve made a few bad decisions in my life that I wish I could change.
I wonder if the person that decided to play #80 has that same feeling…or is he void of hindsight?
An old saying in racing…run what you “brung”. That is exactly what Tech did…fumbles, muffed punts, dropped passes and picks. Same as regular season.
I also wonder if Coach Johnson is so stubborn that next year will be the same as this with no improvment in passing and special teams….do you?

keen observer, most middle school players could have caught the punts that were muffed. I agree we need a special teams coach but muffing easy punts isn’t something great coaching corrects. Most of us on this blog can catch an easy punt. If anything you can say that it was bad coaching to let that guy on the field.

collegeballfan, Air Force never really stopped Tech, Tech fumbled the ball four times, that’s what stopped Tech, they loss two of those, one in the red zone. Tech beat their self with turnovers, still had a chance to win even with all those turnovers, interception sealed their fate at the end.

Instead of this Game being a POSITIVE for GT FB, it ended up being a 3-hr. kick in the groin:
ESPN showed a graphic where only 4 Schools in all of D1-A ran the Triple Option, they were:
Army
Navy
Air Force
GA. friggin’ TECH
If there’s one guaranteed way to scare AWAY TOP RECRUITS, is it to “compare” GT FB to friggin’ Service Academy FB.
Thanks a lot CPJ, for embarrassing GT FB to any & all “decent” Recruits that might have considered GT.
To be put on that “list” in Nat’l TV with all the Recruits watching will HARM GT’s recruiting efforts for years to come.
Thanks for nothing “Fish-Fry”!

This exhibition was pathetic. I’m laughing. Nothing left to say. Pathetic. Our “special” teams are “special” ok. How do you play this way? No coaching. I’m not pulling for CPJs head or anything, but for some guy who supposedly hates to loose, he has sure looked pretty bland all year. I am glad this disaster is over. I have said all year, losing a ball game I can live with, but this display of crap all year is pathetic. No heart, No leadership, no learning from mistakes. We have no one, no one, who can catch the damn ball! Paul better do something about finding some leadership. A special teams coach and a passing game would be good, too. He’s not playing Little League ball anymore.

Your 2 min offense is non-existent. You could have beaten UGA earlier this year and AF tonight with any semblance of a passing game.
Bob Davie was right when he said there’s not enough versatility / variety in the GT offense.

During the telecast, ESPN Analyst Bob Davie stated that Tech coach Paul Johnson doesn’t want or feel the need to change anything with GaTech’s offense. I hope that’s directly from Coach Johnson and not an impression that Davie has. With a season record of 6-7, I guess I can see where Johnson should feel that way. In other words, there is no need to make any changes to try and improve the offense. Good thing. I love to see Tech lose. Message to Coach Johnson, PLEASE don’t change anything. Losing 5 of it’s last 6 games, it is obvious that Tech’s offense is making opponents shake in their boots and of course there doesn’t need any changes. My favorite football team is any team that beats GaTech. Go Kansas, NC State, Clemson, VaTech, Miami, UGA and Air Force!!

Those of you that have been on this blog. for 3 years know that I predicted just as this team has evolved. I took so much abuse from from some of you that I now take great pleasure in saying I TOLD YOU SO.
The bad part is its going to get worse.Recruiting stinks because no HS football player with any talent (and sense) wants to play in CPJ’s system. He can only recruit the rejects from UGA and other schools with decent systems.
From day one all we heard was just wait till he gets his players—-Well he got his players, and it didnt make for
a winning season. It made for a disaster.
Stay tuned folks there’s more to come.
Oh yeah—-Drad is doing a lousy also. The system is broke and all he does is voice support for his losers. If you dont recognise the problem, you damn sure cant fix it.

Those of you asking for an off-season of soul-searching by Coach Johnson will be disappointed, I’m afraid. I really don’t think he has any idea what went wrong this year. He has never faced a season like this, and I think his response will be more of the same. Next year either the team will bounce back and he will be proven right, or they will stink again and he will be fired. We’re in a race with UGA to see which coach retains his job. Maybe both, maybe neither.

Doug, will this team be any better next year? They can’t pass, can’t catch, played terrible defense almost all year and the special teams is pitiful. There are 2 offensive line coaches and no special teams coach?? What the heck? 6 straight bowl losses and how will a losing season effect recruiting? Even chan didn’t manage a losing year! We had 15 guys back this year and to lose 7 games is beyond me. Look forward to your reply.

Middle school offence against the same……..Difference is, one team is a little better than the other….Tech people, you, in the ACC can’not recruit top knotch athletes who have any aspirations of going to the next level to play in such in college……..For all of you who post “fire CMR” should sit back and take a good look at what your own coach is setting you up to be!….

Points are almost meaningless with the Tech Fund. You want good seats, you pay the seat license. There will be plenty of spare seats. If you decide to drop your season tickets for a year or two, there is no penalty to speak of.
DRad really, really screwed up when he forced the Tech Fund down the fans’ throats. He destroyed years of fan loyalty, and next year will see the full fruit of his decision.

No doubt that was a terrible game. But I will still give Johnson 2-3 more years (and I think DRad will too) to prove he can win with HIS players. But at this point, I am definitely more skeptical than optimistic. It was a questionable hire because of exactly what seems to be happening now. Other teams are finding ways to stop the no pass offense and it is seeming like we can’t recruit the players needed to run the base offense or give us a passing threat. Only time will tell, but at this point I wouldn’t put money on it.
