Georgia Tech will play Air Force in tonight’s Independence Bowl here in lovely Shreveport, La.
With the single game left, it’s time to start looking ahead. Let’s do a mailbag that I’ll publish in the blog next Monday. Post your questions in the comments section below about the team, the players or the coaches by Friday and I’ll do my best to answer.
If you’d prefer, email me your question(s) at droberson@ajc.com.

If you can’t execute plays, turn the ball over, and do just about everything wrong on special teams, you won’t beat much of anybody, no matter what system you play. Honestly, Air Force has stopped the offense a couple of times, but every offense will get stopped at times. It’s the turnovers that have killed us. It was the same thing in the UGA game.

Say what you want about Gailey but he never had a losing season. PJ has turned GT into annapolis south without the discipline. Heck Navy is better than GT this year.

Wow, CPJ can’t beat Air Force in Shreveport.
We can’t beat Air Force in Shreveport.
I mean, if he’s going for some kind of “learn by losing” thing he’d better tell us about it, because losing to Air Force in Shreveport is, well, it’s just pathetic.

6-7, 6 bowl losses in a row, turnovers galore, so-called BCS conference. Maybe gtu and the service academies can form their own conference. Wait – that’s a slap at the service academies, and I wouldn’t do that. Well, at least gtu can talk about their academics being better than AF. Wait – that won’t work, either.

Gailey also never beat UGA or won an ACC championship and only had 1 season with more than 7 wins. His usual season was 1 more win than this terrible season. If you want Gailey back, you can have him. We’ll see if the rest of CPJ’s tenure looks more like this season or the past 2, but CPJ has already done more at Tech than Gailey ever did. CPJ could be a bum, and I still wouldn’t want that bum Gailey back.

That was embarrassing. Tech’s special teams have been a total grease fire all season. The defense played well for a change, but there was no emotion and no leadership visible either on the field or on the sidelines. It sure looked like Tech did not want to be there.

I agree completely. With Washington at QB 5 wins at best.
How this team gained 400 yards rushing on Georgia is beyond me. UGA must suck a lot more than I thought. Georgia never stopped the Tech running game and Air Force stopped it dead in its tracks.
Anyone at GT or UGA wanna hire the AFA DC?

@ Too Easy – What is your criteria for saying the Air Force Academy has better academics than Tech? Which of their degree programs are in the top 5 in the nation? Oh and another thing, a Tech athlete being academically ineligible is similar to being on the Dean’s List at every SEC school except Vandy!

All the CPJ slurpers are trying to blame this collapse on Nesbitt going down, but the truth is that Tech played just as poorly before his injury– it was just facing worse competition. I find it hilarious when they try and blame the UGA loss on not having Nesbitt, when the offense gained over 500 yards with Washington under center.
Nesbitt or no Nesbitt, this was going to be a 6 to 7 loss team.
Most boring bowl game of the season, perhaps the most boring ever. No discipline, no desire from the players. Of course here come the slurpers who will argue inane things like “PJ didn’t fumble the ball” or “PJ didn’t drop the pass.” Well PJ doesn’t score touchdowns or make plays on defense either! They are his players and he is responsible for coaching them to play their best.
14 consecutive winning seasons down the drain. 3 bowl losses in a row. 2 losses to the worst UGA teams in recent history. A boring offense no one wants to watch or be watched playing in. Starting to get the picture PJ fans?

Terrible game, terrible punt returner, terrible QB, terrible effort, terrible offensive display. The offensive line played hard and the defense deserved better. The most boring bowl game of the year. Tech is embarrassing to watch and hard to root for.

RH: Didn’t say that AF’s academics were better. Point is that you really can’t say gtu’s are, either. Don’t think the service academies are included in the rankings you cite. Besides, this is a sports blog where techies always bring up irrelevant stuff when the sports don’t cut it.

GTBob, PJ refuses to hire a special teams coach so yes the muffed punts are his fault. And Tech really doesn’t have a wide receivers coach either. hmmn. What are two trouble areas for tech? Poor special teams and wide receiver play!! Now thats not really rocket science now is it.

I would like to congratulate this team for having the first losing record in 14 years. Pathetic. Just like the GA game. Deja Vu all over. Good drive going down around the 10. QB fumbles AF recovers. Defense holds, AF punts, Tech fumbles punt AF recovers. Defense holds, AF punts, same player that fumbled first punt, fumbles this one. AF recovers and scores what amounts to winning TD. As much as I love the option game, until we have some type of a decent passing game and receivers that can catch or hang on to the ball, Tech will be nothing but a fair football team in the coming years. Tech has no defense, and Groh seems to not have any passion on the sidelines. Until the defensive side of the ball improves tremendously, we can find someone who can cover and special teams improves drastically, we will be in trouble for future years. I think CPJ has to take a hard look at staff after this season as he has a lot of issues that need to be addressed. No way this team should have lost to AF, just like no way they should have lost to GA and VT. Shoot yourself in the foot long enough and you will pay. Well Tech fans, we have paid.

You can put that loss on PJ. He should not have had 80 in the game on punt returns, particularly after the 1st fumble.
Anyone could tell 80 was totally uncomfortable fielding (trying to field) punts.
