WR Sims to transfer

Georgia Tech wide receiver Quentin Sims has decided to transfer. Sims, a redshirt sophomore, will not travel with the team to the Independence Bowl.

The reasons for Sims’ decision were not immediately available, but he has not seen the field much in his two seasons with the Jackets. As a backup wide receiver, he did not have a catch in two years and mostly played special teams.

After playing quarterback at Colerain High in Cincinnati, Sims was recruited to Tech as a wide receiver. However, he worked at quarterback in a few instances to provide depth. Safety Cooper Taylor, A-back Chris Jackson and quarterback Jordan Luallen also left the team earlier in the season.

When CPJ says that same thing about “we just didn’t execute”, the GT Fanbase calls him a genius and allows him to throw the players under the bus, when Blewitt does, GT fans don’t want to hear any excuses.

I guess if you’re the right HC, then excuses are acceptable to the GT fanbase.

Its such a good feeling to present coherent, intelligent arguments for GT that can be compared side-by-side with the incoherent ramblings of some character named Logan Booker that supports UGA. Fans (short for fanatics) often have a blind optimism in their teams (and negative views of rivals), and I’ll admit I am no exception. But having to verbally support my positions with rational, well-thought-out arguments does help me to see that GT is headed in the right direction.
Case in point, Wrecks (aka Logan Booker) states above that the ACC is such an inferior conference to the PAC-10 . I said that top to bottom the ACC has been better than the Pac-10. The Pac-10 sent 4 teams to a bowl this year, the ACC sent 9. Lets go back a year, last year the PAC 10 was 2-5 in its bowls, the ACC was 3-4.

The difference between the Paul’s, and the GT fans’ reaction to their performance, is that CPJ has been here for 3 seasons and CPH has been here for 10! Count ‘em … 10 SEASONS! One winning basketball record in the ACC in all that time … one magical run in the tournament in ‘04 when the planets aligned correctly and Will Bynum wielded the hand of a god.

Criticize CPJ all you want and claim that he “throws the players under the bus” when they don’t perform … but at least he tries to motivate and get results, and his players understand the game he’s teaching. It is clear by now that CPH can’t coach and his players have no idea what game he’s teaching. 5 guys stumbling around the court in a lethargic coma.

I’m stepping off my pedestal now. Merry Christmas sir “ReXX-N-fX” and everyone else.

I think maybe Siena has pushed me over the edge. I think its probably time for CPH to go. I was not saying this after Kennesaw St. or UGA, but its just too much to take. CPH has been riding the 2004 season for six years. We need a coach that can start a sell-out steak in our new building in 2012!!!

don’t see how any intelligent observer would talk about any coaching change before basketball is fixed unless they are paying for it, & neither would any football prospect smart enough to go to Tech…any of you CPJ haters that are real Tech fans, hold up a picket sign out side gate 4 Monday, & we will discuss it…….

Wrecks or ReXX, who cares?

ReXX-N-fX – “I guess if you’re the right HC, then excuses are acceptable to the GT fanbase.”

You might want to return to the UGA blog where the exact same thing is being discussed about Richt and Fox. Richt has been at UGA long enough to avoid a 3-5 SEC season, just like Hewitt who has been at Tech long enough to avoid the obvious problems in BB. Fox hasn’t been at UGA long enough to get all of his players in place and it appears that he is not recruiting to the expectations of some Dawg fans. Isn’t that the same for Johnson at Tech in FB?

Wrecks or ReXX, who cares?

ReXX-N-fX,

Obviously you find Tech athletics a whole lot more interesting than UGA athletics. As a Tech fan, I certainly agree that Tech is more interesting. The question is why a Dawg fan finds Tech more interesting? We both know that Tech is a far superior academic school, so perhaps that is your fascination with Tech. :)

Sorry GTFan2011, but the ACC having a bunch of bowl tie-ins to horrible bowls doesn’t make the ACC a better Conference than the Pac10, those 9 bowl bids don’t mean a damn thing.

The ACC is the ONLY BCS Conference to NEVER get 2-team to BCS Bowl Games in the same season, this yr. the Pac10 has two, Oregon & Stanford.

Also the ACC has only won 1 game in the history of the BCS Bowl system and are something like 0-fer in recent history in BCS Bowl Games and the Games weren’t close either meaning that the ACC’s “best” weren’t anywhere close to the best teams in other Conferences.

Very similar to a 9-3 CPJ Team being completely undressed by a FIVE-LOSS LSU Team in the Chick-Fil-a Bowl.

You just made yourself sound very uninformed by saying that the ACC is better than the Pac10 because they have bids to 9 horrible bowls.

Do GT Fans like you follow CFB at all, or do you just repeat what CPJ and Wes say during the weekly Coach’s Show?

I’m not going anywhere Putzes, I’m a GT Alums that knows CFB and is willing to tell it like is to the mentally-fragile GT Fanbase.

Go and ask some of the folks at 247.com/GT—BBuzzoff.com about WrecksNEffect and they tell you that I was a GT Alum 3 yrs. ago when CPJ was first hired and I actually predicted most of what has happened so far including the dip in Recruiting and mediocre 6-6 seasons, and I did all this back in Dec 2007.

Wrex, did you predict the ACC Championship in 2009, too? If you did then kudos to you, because I didn’t know anyone who thought CPJ could get us to an ACC championship in year two. And this “dip in Recruiting” you speak of, can you tell me to what you are comparing that? CPJ has recruited 8-4* and 29-3* recruits in two and a half years (according to scout.com). Chan Gailey recruited 1-5*, 16-4*, and 51-3* in SEVEN years. Now, you tell me who is the better recruiter based on that.

Actually Wrex pathetic ramblings got me to looking at the recruiting. I did not realize that even though CPJ came to Tech in December 2007, with only 1 month to go before signing day, that he actually got commits from some very solid players in that last month (Uzzi, Barnes, Wright, Smith, Washington)

Oh, and the reason that the PAC-10 has only 4 bowl representatives, is because 60% of their league didn’t QUALIFY for a bowl. Whereas, 75% of the ACC DID QUALIFY for a bowl. So my statement that TOP-TO-BOTTOM the ACC is better than the PAC-10 does make sense.

GTfan2011,

Ole Wrex doesn’t want to be told the facts – he just wants to spew the hate. That’s what confirms him to be a Dawg fan. His anti-Tech rhetoric with typical Dawg overtones and expressions is so obvious that even a casual observer would tag him as a Dawg. Yet, he tries to convince us that he’s a Jacket. How lame can you be to impersonate a rival and then try to convince them after you’ve been exposed that you really are the genuine thing. Like I said above, we aint buyin’ his garbage!

To me the athletes need to look at the school first in case their is a coaching change. Jackson was Gailey’s first recruit I believe that year and had potential then a change occurs. Luallan probably better off at a more passing school. Taylor I was hoping would be tried at WR/OLB since that is where we needed sure hands/and some playmakers. Johnson did great the first two years way above norman and now third year has a little letdown. Hopefully 4th year it’s back up and this bowl will give uss some insight.

It never fails with you guys. When times get tough, you start whining about academics. If you believe for one minute that your fine young men are all scholars, you are really deceived. Give it up! It is a fantasy! They are not there for that fine Tech degree. Wake up boys! When a recruit decides against going to your fine institution, suddenly he was not qualified academically in your mind. Your institution is just like the rest of them. If they have athletic talent, they will get by. It is the same across the country.

Love PJ’s attitude and in-game coaching skills, but concerned about this offense in the long run. Unless we get a QB that is fast AND CAN THROW, we will never beat the big boys. Once every couple of years, but this offense is too limited unless you have a real special player. Doubt PJ will ever adjust the offense to a spread like Oregon or Michigan runs.
Just hope he’s got a special QB in the fold somewhere or we are in trouble.

We may not overcome the recruiting CPJ has NOT done ever since he was hired…. I don’t care what you run, if you don’t have the horses then all is academic… I like Coach Johnson, but I am intelligent enough to realize the longer he stays, the worse we get…. He has not recruited, and it doesn’t look like he is going to change. He has undersized lineman on both sides, it’s no wonder why are defense $ux…. Our offense is the MOST boring offense that I have ever witnessed… We will never beat anybody that’s good, we will only beat average to terrible teams, and sneak up on some every blue moon…. Just sayin… I’m with the team win or lose, but I see more losing coming our way…. IMHO.

4ever,
Agree with most of what you say. I think we need to see next year how Days turns out at QB. But if he can’t throw it we’re cooked for a while.
PJ is a real gamer, but afraid he is too stubborn to change anything he does. As far as the Fridge goes, not a big fan of his. He was great as OC but I’d rather see someone young and energetic like a Dooley type at UT who can really recruit and relate to the kids.

Will they have any players left for AF???

Losing only by 1 with 90 seconds to go and about to make a huge stop and you let the other team score a TD because, it makes you ” look slick and strategic”. Wait a minute!!! We lost by 8!!! Is 8 BETTER THAN 1?? I don’t think so. Dang, then CPJ is a moron.
