WR Sims to transfer

Georgia Tech wide receiver Quentin Sims has decided to transfer. Sims, a redshirt sophomore, will not travel with the team to the Independence Bowl.

The reasons for Sims’ decision were not immediately available, but he has not seen the field much in his two seasons with the Jackets. As a backup wide receiver, he did not have a catch in two years and mostly played special teams.

After playing quarterback at Colerain High in Cincinnati, Sims was recruited to Tech as a wide receiver. However, he worked at quarterback in a few instances to provide depth. Safety Cooper Taylor, A-back Chris Jackson and quarterback Jordan Luallen also left the team earlier in the season.

Georgia must live off beating Tech because they aren’t doing much else and have not made any significant changes. Even against Tech I wouldn’t feel too comfortable, the last two years you were settling it in the forth quarter and of course there was that one in Athens you never settled at all. Tech ended up with the same record this year as Georgia, yet Georgia is now the source of our mental inspirations? You lost to Colorado with AJ Green playing. I think just out of habit some of you come over to the Tech blog and toss a couple at us. Use to make sense you had a football team anybody in the country would take some advise from. We got a nice little team at Tech, won the ACC and got to the Orange bowl last year. At Georgia you act like that is an entitlement, you are finding out it is not. Every year one more team passes you in the SEC, you only need one more and you become non eligible for a bowl. Georgia can’t live off the difference between Georgia and Tech right now, but Tech can. If Georgia had been playing for some real marbles instead of a back alley bowl Tech would have beat em, it is when nothing matters that Georgia plays their best. Nope I am not hearing any coaching advise coming out of Athens.

I agree. Paul Johnson has to go. His ability to accept losing to Georgia is the last straw. Not much character there either, just a character. How many more will leave before Radakovich determines that losing and leaving are two great hints that it is time for a program change.

You mean like in 2002 or in the past 10 years overall? Clarify please.

You want get any coaching advice from me.We have enough issue’s with Richt to be casting stones towards Tech and P.J. I will say this-I do not think your offensive scheme is something that will win year in/year out even in the ACC. I think it will erroid your recruiting base as the years go on.

Tech will be fine,

Those of you who are poor mouthing the system and coach should take the time to look at te facts.

The first and most glaring problem Tech has faced since CPJ got here is the fact that Nesbit was the QB. Now I am not slamming him but I believe we can all agree that he lacked severly in the passing department, this has to have a HUGE impact on any offense.

Secondly, Tech, like Georgia, has to have at least 2 years to adjust to the 3-4. THIS DEFENSE IS NOT THE DEFENSE that will prove out. Tech has a shot (to what degree I do not know) at 2-3 five star defensive players this year, they may not get them but I can’t remember the last time Tech got any looks from 5 star recruits.

Third–Tech just came off a down year-a bad year and they were 6-6. In the past a bad year at Tech ws 2-10 or 4-8—times have changed !

LASTLY—The losses to Clemson, Va Tech, Kansas and several poor performances can be directly attributed to two defensive players–Butler and Edwards, they are now gone. Thye are being replaced by two recruits who Tech won when Georgia, Clemson and several other teams were after them. The are Isiah Johnson and Ryn Ayers, instant improvement in defense.

I could go on and on but this is not your typical Tech program-it IS BETTER and improving each year.

You would think he would have seen playing time as a WR next year as the QB depth seems to be working itself out and WR positions opening up. Oh well no big loss and good luck with whatever your future holds.

In every post I read about Tech there is a slam about UGAs IQ or the “difficult” classes at Tech. Keep on thumping your chests, no one believes you. I would guess few of the Tech “engineers” would do well in the Genetic program, the psychobiology program or one of the linguistics programs. Please it gets old and the rest of the country laughs at your attempts to be elite.

moonpie,
I slightly disagree with the opinion that CPJ’s style offense will hurt in offensive recruiting. If GT has another season like this then yes it will hurt, but if he comes back next year with a better record and if Allen, Nesbitt and Bedford atleast get the chance to go to the NFL recruits will see that this offense can get them thier. GT will forever struggle in the recruiting wars no matter what coach or offense/defense is used.

Ramblin Man,

OK I see your point.I dis-agree that Tech will struggle in recruiting no matter who is the coach. You sound like us Dawgs making excuses.Get a high profile offenseive coach like a Mike Leach and Tech could dominate the ACC. Look at what goes on in the SEC with the likes of Auburn,Miss St,Florida(pre-2010) ,Carolina, and soon to be UT. It’s all offense with mediocre defensive play. You had this kind of coaching and recruits would knock down your door to sign.Tech must change the culture of their program.Your A.D needs to get aggressive about football and at any cost bring in a master mind, innovative coach.Same stuff we need in Athens.

Wayne,
When UGA stops recruiting in the 90% level for special recruits in football and does not have to have tutors assigned to these same players for housing degrees we will stop reminding UGA fans that don’t seem to get it that GT is just plain harder to attend and that it scares recruits away. I have never said a UGA degree is useless like some of my fellow fans, but if you actually went to college and look at the course requirments for each schools “easy” major you should recognize we speak the truth. Your guess about doing well in other areas of higher learning is also just a guess and not what I would guess is a educated guess.

I really don’t want someone with as little character as Mike Leach being associated with our program. We run a pretty tight ship on the Tech football team, we don’t need anyone getting headlines for abusing players. I’m shocked Maryland is considering him.

Moonpie,
Trust me I see your logic and yes I agree a big name coach would help with recruiting, but I feel GT will never see great or even good recruiting classes year in and year out unless other majors are offered. I swear I am not trying to sound like an elitist but GT will never be able to recruit like an SEC team for several reasons and classes play a real part in that. The best recent example is an offensive lineman that commited then changed his mind and went to USC.

Just used Mike Leach example from the innovative stand point of offensive scheme.Yall need some excitement in your football program. You need a product your fan’s want to see. From the looks of attendance that’s not happening.Would you agree? Last season attendence sucked as usual and GT won the ACC. I have no real reason why more GT fans do not show up and it also hurts when you play the likes of Duke, BC (when on the schedule), NC State, Wake Forest and UVA whose fans do not travel well at all. I would also point out that GT does not get many fans that never actually attended GT or had a family member that did that most other schools such as UGA get.
