Nesbitt not likely for Independence Bowl

Georgia Tech quarterback Joshua Nesbitt will likely not play in the Independence Bowl, coach Paul Johnson said on Thursday.

He said Nesbitt saw a doctor earlier in the day.

“[That's] Probably not going to happen,” he said. “That’d be a real reach, I think.”

Nesbitt broke his right arm in the loss at Virginia Tech on Nov. 4. A senior, Nesbitt has repeatedly said that he hoped to return in time to play in what would be his last game, though he sounded pessimistic about his chances after practice on Tuesday.

Even if he doesn’t play against Air Force on Dec. 27 in Shreveport, La., Nesbitt would leave as the ACC’s all-time leader in two rushing categories for quarterbacks: yards (2,806) and touchdowns (35). He’s seventh on Tech’s all-time career rushing yards list. He is responsible for 55 touchdowns, fourth-most in Tech history.

Sucks for Nesbitt not to be able to play, but I feel Washington has earned the right to start and finish the bowl game. Now if the defense shows up and GT can actually get one of those leads I keep hearing about I would not mind seeing Sims get some snaps.

if Case Keenum of Houston is requesting a 6th year of eligibility due to injury, then GT ought to petition a 5th year for Josh, missing 5 games in a season should be allowed to comeback

superDawg being classy as always. Representing UGA well. That’s too bad about Nesbitt, I wish we would have gotten that Jan 7th bowl game. Maybe he would have had a chance then. It would be nice if he could come out for one play, just hand the ball off, and then leave and get an ovation from Tech fans.

Doug,

Maybe you can do a atory on ALL the Engineering Firms that are recruiting Josh?? He is the true definition of a STUDENT-athlete, like Techies claim ALL their football players to be right??

Any chance Josh and Anthony would work in the same Engineering Firm together?

Any chance Reggie Ball or Joe Hamilton could get Josh a job at the Engineering Firm they are currently employed by? I mean, those guys did get their Engineering Degrees right?

Thanks in advance, Doug.

Did anybody read the story over on the UGA blog where those THUG players pulled over to aide a bus driver who slid off the road in the ice? Man, those Rednecks have ZERO class you know! What kind of program is being run in Athens!!! Man oh man!!!

Too bad Joshua, really wanted to see you play one last time. Hope you can still be the emotional leader from the sidelines. The season has been a disappointment, but if we win it could really give us some momentum for next season. I think Tevin has done a great job, he has actually put up very comparable numbers to Nesbitt. I too would like to see Sims get some snaps in this one. Still very anxious to see the competition in the spring between Washington, Sims, Days and Lee if he is an early enrolee. Next season should be quite a bit better than this one was. Go Jackets!!

Sanford, Don’t be an idiot. Tech offers degrees other than engineering. Most athletes, at least when I was there, got Management degrees. Oh . . . and it should be known that Tech’s school of Business and Management is highly ranked. Bloomberg BusinessWeek ranks Tech’s MBA program in its top 25 and 2nd for job placement. Its undergraduate program is 28 in US News and World Report among all schools and 16 among public universities.

Don’t make me tell you where UGa is.

Sounds like Nesbitt (and others) got a pretty good degree if they got a Management degree from Tech.

Tevin Washington may be a better option QB than Nesbitt. Nesbitt is tough as nails, but keep your eye on Tevin. He was unstoppable in the UGA game.

I predict 2 1,000 yard rushing seasons for Tevin, and 1,500 yards passing next year, and maybe 2,000 the next. The guy is good. And I think Nesbitt finds some position in the NFL even if it’s not QB.

Anyone who has any negative comments to make about a young man, Like Joshua Nesbitt, regardless of what College team he played for, who was injured on the field while playing at the heart and desire he showed, should be banned from these blogs forever.

This would be like having A.J. Greene, Cam Newton, or any other team’s star player injured and having people rag on him. It’s uncalled for and classless and it belittles the sportsmanship of any team you supposedly support.

Whether you like GA Tech or not, say something nice about the young man or say nothing at all; if nothing else, he’s earned everyone’s respect.

Ok, so I’m redneck trailer trash and my team the pitiful Georgia Bulldogs (see I can actually spell the mascot correctly every now and then) has had a losing season in the SEC and a losing season after the loss to come in the Liberty Bowl. Redneck Georgia fans like myself prefer to ignore our miserable state of affairs in our own program and try to feel better about our program by criticizing other programs. We hate AU now because we got smacked in the face by Cam and company. We hate UF because they literally own us like a rented mule with Alzheimers. I say Alzheimers because we conveniently forget every year about the prior year shellacking and forecast winning the SEC East and going to the SECCG every year.

UGA didn’t win a single game against a program with a winning record. Not One Single Game. Our only claim to fame this year is being the fourth best academic college in the state despite having the largest enrollment. We are embarrassed with the revelation that we are the nations least serious academic institution with our Top Party School designation. We are also embarrassed about being referred to by other schools in the SEC as THUGA due to the arrests of nearly a dozen players in less than a year as well as the DUI arrest of our married AD in the company of a mistress. UGA is also exremely embarrassed to be the recipients of the Fulmer Cup Award as the bottom program in the nation with the most arrests of our football players.

Frankly, the only thing that UGA fans can do now is to go on the Tech blogs and make fools of ourselves trying to convince smarter fans that UGA really matters. It appears that no one at Tech really gives UGA any respect and that is frustrating for fans like myself. I try to remind them of scores of past games and hope that might anger the Tech fans but it doesn’t seem to be working. Instead, it is the Tech fans that are laughing at me and poking fun at my insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. Of course, that just enrages me more and motivates me to spend my entire day on these blogs desperately trying to feel better about myself and my Dawg football program when the truth is that no one cares about UGA and UGA has disappeared completely from the national scene.

I’m trying everything that I can to upset these Tech fans but it just doesn’t seem to be working. I am a failure and so is my team.

superDawg, I know just how you feel. I just hate the fact that these Tech fans don’t get upset with my insults. It is so frustrating to feel impotent and unimportant. I hope that our football program at UGA can get turned around soon because that’s all that I have going for me in my life. Without UGA football I would be a nobody. I know you know how I feel. It’s a sad time to be a Georgia Bulldawg.

Sanford Drive and superDawg, yeah, I agree. I hate the Tech fans even more because we beat them and they still laugh at us and make us feel inferior. I know that they’re smarter than we are and that’s not fair either. I just wish we could find something, anything that would make the Tech fans upset so that we could feel better about the Dawgs. The scores don’t seem to work and that only makes us look like adolescents. We use Tech $ux, nerds, trekkies, etc. and nothing seems to bother them. It’s just so frustrating being a Dawg fan these days.

does it really matter?

I am so angry with myself looking back on the lost opportunities in my earlier life to get a decent education at a place like Georgia Tech instead of no education, no job, no life, no girlfriend, and no friends. All I am left with is the hope (and prayer) that I can associate with a successful Dawg football program. But no, UGA has let me down again this year. So, I guess I’ll hang around here and feel miserable about the Dawgs and maybe I can taunt some of these Tech fans with my garbage posts. Would you like for me to post some scores and Shreveport? I do that when I can’t think of anything intelligent to say, which is pretty much all the time. God, I hate being ignorant.

I envy EVERYTHING about Tech. The great academics, the great tradition, the location in the capital of the state and the South. The prestige of a Tech degree. The fabulous money that Tech graduates make. The beautiful women that Tech grads marry (women prefer money over redneck dawg fans). I am envious of pretty much everything. On top of that I feel pretty inadequate as a Dawg fan with our football team down. God, it would have been nice to have a great job, lots of money, a beautiful wife and the prestige of a degree from Georgia Tech. Alas, that will never happen for me. I am so jealous.

Puppies, add 2010 Florida to the long list of top notch elite programs in need of a head coach that didn’t even look in Mark Richt’s direction. If UGA is so wonderful and prestigious, why have the big boys NEVER come calling? Do you think Richt wouldn’t drop you clowns like a bad habit if somebody threw some Florida money at him? Well, maybe not. He seems pretty content racking up wins against the Utah States and Colorados of the world. Oops, I meant Missy State, uh, I mean, well nevermind I suppose.

I wouldn’t worry too much Joshua. None of your sorry azz fans would be in Shreveport to watch you play anyway. They didn’t exactly fill up the seats to watch you play at home so I doubt we’ll see too many Techies in Shreveport. My advice to you is this: Stay in touch with your teammates. Stay in touch with your coaches. Stay in touch with your favorite professors. But stay the hell away from Tech fans. You don’t owe these pinheads a single thing.

I understand how you feel dawgfan. You are very frustrated with these Tech fans also. Why do they always get the better of us? I know they’re smarter but are they that much smarter? I just feel helpless trying to insult them. I can see that you have the same problem. Did you know that UGA hasn’t sold 3,400 seats to that BCS bowl in Memphis? I would comment on lack of attendance by Tech fans but UGA has almost double the total enrollment at Tech and has sold fewer tickets than Tech. I didn’t have the guts to lie about it and taunt them but I’m glad that you got by with the lies in your last post.
