A Tech football player who is also an Air Force cadet
Chandler Anderson has an interesting dilemma.
Not only is he Tech’s punter, he’s also one of 120 cadets in Detachment 165, the school’s Air Force ROTC program. The Yellow Jackets will play the Falcons in the Independence Bowl.
Are his loyalties divided between his educator and future employer?
He said the detachment’s commander, Lt. Col. Shawn Bevans, tested his loyalties earlier this week.
“I said ‘Sir, I’ll always root for the Air Force,’ ” Anderson said. “… but I’ll be for Tech.”
Anderson will graduate next December and should be commissioned a few days later. His commitment after graduation will depend upon his specialty code. He said it’s possible he could be an officer should Tech play in a bowl in 2011.
Anderson has taken the requisite tests to be a pilot. If he doesn’t receive that assignment, he hopes to land a job in air and space management.
His brother, Cody, is in the Air Force ROTC program at Valdosta State. Anderson said Cody talked him into joining the service. Their grandfather is also a retired Air Force officer.
Bevans said some members of the detachment are considering driving to Shreveport for the game to root on Anderson, Tech and Air Force. Of course, he said they will sit behind the goalposts, so that they will be between both sides.
Either way, he said he can’t lose.
“If Georgia Tech wins, I’m a faculty member and I have to celebrate,” he said. “If Air Force wins, I’m a grad and I can celebrate too.”

I would imagine that the average Air Force cadet is much smarter than the average Techie. They probably are much cooler as well and don’t suffer from severe adult acne or social anxiety disorder. Plus, I bet the average Air Force cadet has had a relationship with a female beyond internet dating sites, unlike the average Techie.

You can buy all the GT gear you want at the Southeast’s largest college bookstore – The Barnes and Noble @ GT in Technology Square (you know, the plaza that house’s Georgia’s highest ranked public business school and the South’s most productive corporate incubator, the ATDC)…the gear would be strictly for Tech defamation purposes only, of course, since that is the “thrust” of your obsession. And if you want, they have free posters of all our athletic teams for you to um…make fun of. Ya know, since you clearly have been finely honed by experience to become the master that you are at comparing two mostly-male institutions’ um…”student bodies.”

Sanford, it was one play, man. The Triple Option is certainly mightier over the course of an entire game than UGA’s defense. You won the game fair and square, but don’t make the mistake of thinking our offensive scheme was the reason. The plan works. The players need to protect the ball. That clip shows one of three Tech turnovers that turned into points for yall. Now, granted, Tech did get just as many from your offense, too, but they couldn’t turn those into points. But again I say that it’s nothing to do with the scheme or playcalling…the fundamentals have been bad for us all year. Driving to the redzone and then getting false starts, fumbles or blown reads leading to 3-and-outs or field goal attempts.
Bottom line- for two years Georgia has squeaked by Tech to maintain the bragging rights. So go on and brag, but Tech is more even with you now than the whole last decade. Think it’s gonna stay a 9-of-10 life as a Dawg? Dream on. Tech will be back, and so will Georgia. But you can’t act like you dominated. Two-touchdown favorites don’t rely on gifts and errors to win on a late interception.
Go on and bark, though. No one here’s impressed. Go Jackets!

Have you been at least minimally aware the last 3 years in this state?! Tech and GA are squeaking by each other in close games the last three years with the underdog winning two of the last three. That is not domination. That is a change in the trend from the past decade. Brag all you want about Tech’s fumbles and the missed PAT, but get real. The fact is you’re always better than your rivals say you are but not quite as good as you’re made to sound when the coach from a team you just lost to talks to the media.
Examples:
-GA fans will forever tell Tech to move down to division 3 or just cancel all sports. We ain’t that bad.
-The coach of a team like Kansas (desperate for respect) who upsets us will say we’re the best offensive team thay’ve played in a decade. We ain’t that good.
I’ve learned to laugh at comments from both types of people.

I thought it only fair to point out what we have done, particularly in regards to your sorry half azzed joke of a football program. I am well aware of the fact that the pollsters could give a flying rat’s azz about any team beating Tech. Preaching to the choir there bro. Hell, I think there have been years where we’ve fell in the polls after waxing that nerd azz. That should tell you Techies where your joke of a football program fits in the grand scheme of things, but its just in one ear and out the other I’m sure.

By the way, Tech starting a season with a Heisman campaign of any type is also progress in the expectations around our program, fool. Sure, he had no one helping him get there, but if he had that help he could definitely have been in the conversation. We all know it was over when we lost to Kansas, but had we had another 2009-like year he very well could have been in New York.
It amazes me how selective people are. I have no problem saying Aaron Murray is a great quarterback for Georgia. He could have his own Heisman website by his senior year. I can say that. But the dawg fans have to laugh at our guy for being the best player in an offense that couldn’t execute and make him look better.

I think AFA takes this game anyway on a far better passing game, don’t laugh, look up some game footage/stat’s, the Falcons are very efficient in the pass game, and D backfield that is one of the best in the nation. 28-17 I think

I am completely obssessed with the incredible Georgia Institute of Technology. I realize that I could NEVER be accepted at such a nationally ranked school. I don’t care that my UGA lack of an education is so evident in the sophomoric posts and infantile humor that I use. I utilize dozens of screen names (dawgfan, Sanford Drive, 30-24, etc.) to give the impression that there are many Dawg fans like me.
My obsession is in evidence all over both UGA and Tech blogs. I post at all hours of the day and night. These blogs are the most significant expression in my life, which is the result of having no friends, no girl friends, no job, and no hope. I blame my own shortcomings on others which is why I enjoy spending so much time on these blogs criticizing Tech. My obsession is one of hatred, bitterness, and envy. I am dawgfan.

What the HE!! is CPJ doing over at GT with our FB Program?
First, Dwyer comes out this week with comments about how players feel about the Fan support that they get, and his comments are SUPPORTED by 2 current members of the Team, Sweeting & Kyle Jackson.
Now, A.T. Barnes a RS-Sr. that has already GRADUATED has LEFT THE TEAM and will skip Bowl Practices & the Bowl Game to start his workout regimen to try and get a Try-out with an NFL Team.
One or two guys, and it can be classified as a “Players Issue” but when you have MULTIPLE PLAYERS that don’t want to be around CPJ and that includes a “legacy” like Coop Taylor that went to MARIST in the “Burbs” and his daddy was a Former GT QB, then that points to a “trend” that CPJ just might be a JERK that seems to OFFEND players from very diverse backgrounds.

When that many folks hit the road, ALL OF THEM can’t be “attitude problems” at some point you have to look at the “constant” in the equation, and that would be CPJ.
The way that players seem to be allergic to this guy, will he ever be able to Recruit effectively enough for GT to be more than a 6-6 to 8-4 type Team, now that the Chan-Recruits are dwindling away?
Serious questions surround CPJ, and it is time for the Kool-Aid drinkers to wake up and see what is happening to GT’s FB Program.

You look at these two schools and think what responsibilities the graduates of both schools face immediately into graduation. When those jets fly over Grant Field ,in some salute, you think that pilot was a kid at Tech only a few years ago. Our problem is we have a different set of characters on the football field in general. If some of that maturity from the student body could rub off to these players on both the football and basketball teams a lot of Tech’s problems would be solved. Air Force on the other hand plays kids that are part of their student body. I think you are going to see more and more success from the maturer athlete as time moves on. I am seeing it in the pros where a Randy Moss can’t last long with New England and teams are shipping trouble making talent out as fast as it comes in. The success of both the Braves and now the Falcons is very much based on this. The only thing that stops this move toward quality is money and groupies that usually do not even graduate from the schools they so dedicate their money and lives too. There is a fine line between running a monetarily successful program and one that wins, the two quiet often conflict with each other. Not at Air Force and hopefully someday not at Tech.

OK, Ozz-hole, please explain WHY a RS-Sr. would rather LEAVE CPJ’s FB Program rather than possibly play one more game (a BOWL) and get even more film of himself in Game Action to enhance his chances of getting an NFL tryout?
How often do you see RS-Srs. WALK-AWAY from a FB Program before a bowl game, even the crappy Bowls still give the Players pretty good Freebies?

You miss the obvious point that the RS Senior graduated! He’s not going to go to a crappy bowl that no one will watch to possibly get hurt or compromise his chances in the NFL tryouts. Geez, that should be obvious even to the most casual observer. If we were going to the Orange Bowl that would be a different story, but the Independence Bowl will not provide any advantages.
You should be wise enough to understand that a graduated redshirt senior is going to do what is best for himself; he’s already made a 5 year sacrifice for the school. Someone was attempting to lampoon me earlier by suggesting that I think Tech should drop football. That is actually exactly what I think. By your own admission, you do not give football 100%. Yes, AF is a great school and they will be well represented in the Independence Bowl, particularly since Barksdale AFB is in the suburban Shreveport area. There’s no way that Tech sends a lot of fans to this particular bowl so it will be a hostile environment. It should be a great game though.

We went to the Orange Bowl last year and had a great time but we’re going to skip the Independence Bowl this year. We’ve been to just about every Tech bowl game in Florida since 1980. I have several fellow alums and friends in the Dallas area that are going this year; it’s a short drive for them and it’s inexpensive to stay in Shreveport.

I went to both schools, my undergrad at USAFA and Masters at Tech after my tours in the AF. Both schools are ranked in the top 5 Aerospace schools in the world and both schools focus on engineering. The academic rigor at Tech is probably harder although the military rigor at the Academies speak for themselves. I don’t really care which team wins, pretty much like Chandler Anderson. I think the service academies deserve more recognition but I’m a Jacket. I’m not rooting for or against either team and will be happy regardless of which team wins.

Look, I was just jealous of Georgia Tech and I know that it’s the best school in the state but my pappy and my mommy told me that they would beat me if I said anything positive about Tech. If you must know, I live on the Tech blog because I am so embarrassed about my Dawgs. Did you know that we were 3-5 (a losing record for my fellow Dawg fans) in the SEC and 6-6 overall? I know that Tech as a 6-6 record also, but at least the Tech fans have a great school. UGA? We have a mediocre school with basket weaving degrees that everyone makes fun of including other schools. All we have in Athens is a football program that is irrelevant in the SEC and in the nation, and a girls gymnastics team. That’s it, that’s all that Athens offers. So, when the football team is god awful like it has been for two years people like myself have nothing better to do than to go on other team blogs and insult other teams. That way I feel better about my poor dawgies.

If this dude is so wonderful and brilliant, why have the big boys NEVER came calling? Do you think he wouldn’t drop you clowns like a bad habit if somebody threw some SEC money at him? Well, maybe not. He seems pretty content racking up wins against the Wake Forests and NC States of the world. So nevermind I suppose.

I am so angry with myself looking back on the lost opportunities in my earlier life to get a decent education at a place like Georgia Tech instead of no education, no job, no life, no girlfriend, and no friends. All I am left with is the hope (and prayer) that I can associate with a successful Dawg football program. But no, UGA has let me down again this year. So, I guess I’ll hang around here and feel miserable about the Dawgs and maybe I can taunt some of these Tech fans with my garbage posts. Would you like for me to post some scores and Shreveport? I do that when I can’t think of anything intelligent to say, which is pretty much all the time. God, I hate being ignorant.

I envy EVERYTHING about Tech. The great academics, the great tradition, the location in the capital of the state and the South. The prestige of a Tech degree. The fabulous money that Tech graduates make. The beautiful women that Tech grads marry (women prefer money over redneck dawg fans). I am envious of pretty much everything. On top of that I feel pretty inadequate as a Dawg fan with our football team down. God, it would have been nice to have a great job, lots of money, a beautiful wife and the prestige of a degree from Georgia Tech. Alas, that will never happen for me. I am so jealous.

Ok, so I’m redneck trailer trash and my team the pitiful Georgia Bulldogs (see I can actually spell the mascot correctly every now and then) has had a losing season in the SEC and a losing season after the loss to come in the Liberty Bowl. Redneck Georgia fans like myself prefer to ignore our miserable state of affairs in our own program and try to feel better about our program by criticizing other programs. We hate AU now because we got smacked in the face by Cam and company. We hate UF because they literally own us like a rented mule with Alzheimers. I say Alzheimers because we conveniently forget every year about the prior year shellacking and forecast winning the SEC East and going to the SECCG every year.
UGA didn’t win a single game against a program with a winning record. Not One Single Game. Our only claim to fame this year is being the fourth best academic college in the state despite having the largest enrollment. We are embarrassed with the revelation that we are the nations least serious academic institution with our Top Party School designation. We are also embarrassed about being referred to by other schools in the SEC as THUGA due to the arrests of nearly a dozen players in less than a year as well as the DUI arrest of our married AD in the company of a mistress. UGA is also exremely embarrassed to be the recipients of the Fulmer Cup Award as the bottom program in the nation with the most arrests of our football players.
Frankly, the only thing that UGA fans can do now is to go on the Tech blogs and make fools of ourselves trying to convince smarter fans that UGA really matters. It appears that no one at Tech really gives UGA any respect and that is frustrating for fans like myself. I try to remind them of scores of past games and hope that might anger the Tech fans but it doesn’t seem to be working. Instead, it is the Tech fans that are laughing at me and poking fun at my insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. Of course, that just enrages me more and motivates me to spend my entire day on these blogs desperately trying to feel better about myself and my Dawg football program when the truth is that no one cares about UGA and UGA has disappeared completely from the national scene.
I’m trying everything that I can to upset these Tech fans but it just doesn’t seem to be working. I am a failure and so is my team.

I hope that our football program at UGA can get turned around soon because that’s all that I have going for me in my life. Without UGA football I would be a nobody. I know you know how I feel. Sanford Drive and superDawg, yeah, I agree. I hate the Tech fans even more because we beat them and they still laugh at us and make us feel inferior. I know that they’re smarter than we are and that’s not fair either. I just wish we could find something, anything that would make the Tech fans upset so that we could feel better about the Dawgs. The scores don’t seem to work and that only makes us look like adolescents. We use Tech $ux, nerds, trekkies, etc. and nothing seems to bother them. It’s just so frustrating being a Dawg fan these days.

Hey guys, serious question here. I am deciding on whether I should use sheep or cows in my farm. I hear cows are good for certain things, while sheep are good for other things. If anyone with any expertise, specifically maybe in high-esteemed agricultural engineering, can help me out, that would be great. This is a decision that I think I will look back on 5 to 33 years from now and think “Wow, how much different would life by if I chose the goats” or conversely “Wow, man how much life would be different if I would have chosen the sheep” or “man if I had an agricultural engineering degree I’d be able to make a good judgement call on that one”. Life is good guys and I hope everyone’s harvests are going well and that proper farm animal care is being taken. Merry Christmas everyone, and let’s go dogs, hopefully we can get rid of some coaches this offseason and get some good offensive coordinated a goin and we’ll be able to keep Anthony Jackson Green (Number 008!!) one more year. He could bulk up definitely, and some goats that live on my farm wouldn’t mind being made into his meal since it’s for a good cause. Just messing guys, let’s keep it clean here ok and take care and hope the winter reaps good rewards for crops around the CSRA and more depending on which section of the mason dixon line you live on, or where in the ridgeland canyons. Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry, and What To Do With Farm Animals When You’re Bored degrees can only be had from the University (sic) of Georgia in Athens for the state of Georgia. Also, if you need your tractor repaired I here they have some courses for that also. If they can’t help you then your next closest bet is Clemson University.

Well, you see Techies you are not the experts in everything!!! UGA is proud to be the A&M school in the state of Georgia. Ag Science, Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, etc. are our specialties at UGA. A lot of our students have experience with farm animals and its natural for them to pursue their degrees and favorite past times at the same time. Go Dawgs!!

Dawgfan, ask any US Air Force officer recruiter whether they had rather have a Tech grad or a UGA grad. They will give you the same answer as the Navy, the Army, any employer of professionals or your girl friend. Reality is a cruel thing and we wouldn’t remind you if you didn’t provoke us.
