A Tech football player who is also an Air Force cadet
Chandler Anderson has an interesting dilemma.
Not only is he Tech’s punter, he’s also one of 120 cadets in Detachment 165, the school’s Air Force ROTC program. The Yellow Jackets will play the Falcons in the Independence Bowl.
Are his loyalties divided between his educator and future employer?
He said the detachment’s commander, Lt. Col. Shawn Bevans, tested his loyalties earlier this week.
“I said ‘Sir, I’ll always root for the Air Force,’ ” Anderson said. “… but I’ll be for Tech.”
Anderson will graduate next December and should be commissioned a few days later. His commitment after graduation will depend upon his specialty code. He said it’s possible he could be an officer should Tech play in a bowl in 2011.
Anderson has taken the requisite tests to be a pilot. If he doesn’t receive that assignment, he hopes to land a job in air and space management.
His brother, Cody, is in the Air Force ROTC program at Valdosta State. Anderson said Cody talked him into joining the service. Their grandfather is also a retired Air Force officer.
Bevans said some members of the detachment are considering driving to Shreveport for the game to root on Anderson, Tech and Air Force. Of course, he said they will sit behind the goalposts, so that they will be between both sides.
Either way, he said he can’t lose.
“If Georgia Tech wins, I’m a faculty member and I have to celebrate,” he said. “If Air Force wins, I’m a grad and I can celebrate too.”

Ok boss. I will try to count as high as I can, but I don’t think I will be able to beat Dan above. Why am I always in that detention thingy? I learned my lesson earlier on this blog, really. I promise.
Look, I was just jealous of Georgia Tech and I know that it’s the best school in the state but my pappy and my mommy told me that they would beat me if I said anything positive about Tech. They fly their Georgia G flag outside the trailer every day. They have never been to Athens but they said everyone in the trailer park pulls for Georgia and I have to also.
So, it’s not my fault. I shouldn’t have to be in detentionente, or whatever. Please dawgfan don’t punish me!

If you must know, I live on the Tech blog because I am so embarrassed about my Dawgs. Did you know that we were 3-5 (a losing record for my fellow Dawg fans) in the SEC and 6-6 overall? I know that Tech as a 6-6 record also, but at least the Tech fans have a great school. UGA? We have a mediocre school with basket weaving degrees that everyone makes fun of including other schools. All we have in Athens is a football program that is irrelevant in the SEC and in the nation, and a girls gymnastics team. That’s it, that’s all that Athens offers. So, when the football team is god awful like it has been for two years people like myself have nothing better to do than to go on other team blogs and insult other teams. That way I feel better about my poor dawgies.

I will be watching Tech football because I can’t stand to watch my Dawgs get slaughtered. UGA is so awful this year it makes me cry. I can come on this blog though and try to make fun of the school that I envy the most. That at least allows me to forget about my miserable Dawg team.

Techies, add 2010 Florida to the long list of top notch elite programs in need of a head coach that didn’t even look in Paul Johnson’s direction. If this dude is so wonderful and brilliant, why have the big boys NEVER came calling? Do you think he wouldn’t drop you clowns like a bad habit if somebody threw some SEC money at him? Well, maybe not. He seems pretty content racking up wins against the Wake Forests and NC States of the world. So nevermind I suppose.

I am so angry with myself looking back on the lost opportunities in my earlier life to get a decent education at a place like Georgia Tech instead of no education, no job, no life, no girlfriend, and no friends. All I am left with is the hope (and prayer) that I can associate with a successful Dawg football program. But no, UGA has let me down again this year. So, I guess I’ll hang around here and feel miserable about the Dawgs and maybe I can taunt some of these Tech fans with my garbage posts. Would you like for me to post some scores and Shreveport? I do that when I can’t think of anything intelligent to say, which is pretty much all the time. God, I hate being ignorant.

I envy EVERYTHING about Tech. The great academics, the great tradition, the location in the capital of the state and the South. The prestige of a Tech degree. The fabulous money that Tech graduates make. The beautiful women that Tech grads marry (women prefer money over redneck dawg fans). I am envious of pretty much everything. On top of that I feel pretty inadequate as a Dawg fan with our football team down. God, it would have been nice to have a great job, lots of money, a beautiful wife and the prestige of a degree from Georgia Tech. Alas, that will never happen for me. I am so jealous.

Ok, so I’m redneck trailer trash and my team the pitiful Georgia Bulldogs (see I can actually spell the mascot correctly every now and then) has had a losing season in the SEC and a losing season after the loss to come in the Liberty Bowl. Redneck Georgia fans like myself prefer to ignore our miserable state of affairs in our own program and try to feel better about our program by criticizing other programs. We hate AU now because we got smacked in the face by Cam and company. We hate UF because they literally own us like a rented mule with Alzheimers. I say Alzheimers because we conveniently forget every year about the prior year shellacking and forecast winning the SEC East and going to the SECCG every year.
UGA didn’t win a single game against a program with a winning record. Not One Single Game. Our only claim to fame this year is being the fourth best academic college in the state despite having the largest enrollment. We are embarrassed with the revelation that we are the nations least serious academic institution with our Top Party School designation. We are also embarrassed about being referred to by other schools in the SEC as THUGA due to the arrests of nearly a dozen players in less than a year as well as the DUI arrest of our married AD in the company of a mistress. UGA is also exremely embarrassed to be the recipients of the Fulmer Cup Award as the bottom program in the nation with the most arrests of our football players.
Frankly, the only thing that UGA fans can do now is to go on the Tech blogs and make fools of ourselves trying to convince smarter fans that UGA really matters. It appears that no one at Tech really gives UGA any respect and that is frustrating for fans like myself. I try to remind them of scores of past games and hope that might anger the Tech fans but it doesn’t seem to be working. Instead, it is the Tech fans that are laughing at me and poking fun at my insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. Of course, that just enrages me more and motivates me to spend my entire day on these blogs desperately trying to feel better about myself and my Dawg football program when the truth is that no one cares about UGA and UGA has disappeared completely from the national scene.
I’m trying everything that I can to upset these Tech fans but it just doesn’t seem to be working. I am a failure and so is my team.

superDawg, I know just how you feel. I just hate the fact that these Tech fans don’t get upset with my insults. It is so frustrating to feel impotent and unimportant. I hope that our football program at UGA can get turned around soon because that’s all that I have going for me in my life. Without UGA football I would be a nobody. I know you know how I feel. It’s a sad time to be a Georgia Bulldawg.

Sanford Drive and superDawg, yeah, I agree. I hate the Tech fans even more because we beat them and they still laugh at us and make us feel inferior. I know that they’re smarter than we are and that’s not fair either. I just wish we could find something, anything that would make the Tech fans upset so that we could feel better about the Dawgs. The scores don’t seem to work and that only makes us look like adolescents. We use Tech $ux, nerds, trekkies, etc. and nothing seems to bother them. It’s just so frustrating being a Dawg fan these days.
