Taylor’s transfer to Richmond official

Former Georgia Tech safety Cooper Taylor has signed a scholarship to attend Richmond, an FCS school that plays in the Colonial Athletic Association.

He will enroll for the spring semester and has two years of eligibility remaining.

“Cooper will be a great addition to the University of Richmond both athletically and academically,” Richmond coach Latrell Scott said in a statement. “He is a tremendous football player and we’re excited to welcome him to the family.”

Taylor, 6-5, 220 pounds, is a graduate of the Marist School who was originally recruited by Tech and Virginia.

After a promising freshman year, which included him making a game-saving play in the win against Florida State when he caused a fumble near the end zone, Taylor was one of the starting safeties in the 2009 season.

But in the third game against Miami he began experiencing an increased heart rate. He didn’t return to the game. He was later diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a condition in which the electrical charges between the heart’s chambers can become out of sync.

A corrective procedure was performed and he was given a clean bill of health. He sat out the remainder of the season. He asked for and received a medical redshirt, giving him three more years of eligibility.

One of the fastest players on the team, coaches said that Taylor impressed them during offseason workouts. He was able to practice in the spring and quickly worked his way back up the depth chart. He played most of the first half of this season’s opener against S.C. State. However, he remained in the locker room at halftime and didn’t come back out. Johnson later said Taylor was suffering from heat-related symptoms. He didn’t travel with the team to next week’s game at Kansas and didn’t play in the third game at North Carolina. Taylor later said the heat-related illness wasn’t caused by his heart condition.

You people are too much….. Hiveredtech or whatever your name is…… Yes “idiotic” is a nice way of putting a name to this offense….. Yeah, it was the number 1 rushing offense in the country, it just couldn’t score against anybody GOOD or bad! I have said this numerous times, this coach said he had the deepest, possibly best team that he has ever had…. Hmmmmmm, his record this year was 6 and 6, soon to be 6 and 7. Coach has recruited very WEAK, by any standard…. I really hope you scholars are getting this…. He has lost most of his skill players, and again, he is not replacing them through recruiting… IMHO, it is because his system is just not something that people want to play in…. Logic states that the longer this Coach is here the bigger the hole, and our football will be competitive no longer… The ACC is as weak as if has ever been, and we have LOST to a miserable UGA team 2 years running. I can’t remember the last time we beat somebody in a bowl game, but hey you guys keep drinking the funny juice…. BTW, I have never stopped supporting GT, I go to all the home and some of the away games. I have been supporting GT since I was a tot…. I just will not stand for arrogant coaches who are not held accountable. You go right ahead and call this man the best coach since Dodd, as ABSURD as that statement is, and I will keep hoping that one day we will get back to the days of real GT football!

Sorry to lose Cooper, but he’s got to do what’s best for himself. Fire Paul Hewitt…now we can’t even sell out the UGA game!!!!

Doug, why don’t you ask CPJ if he was yelling at UGA players before the game and if that is what started the faceoff at midfield before the game.

And no disrespect to Cooper.

But…. Who cares?

It’s Div-I college football.

Tech didn’t let me suit up. Why?

Because I wasn’t good enough.

Ditto for Cooper, bless his heart.

STOP REPORTING ON COOPER TAYLOR!!!!

Let me start by saying, I wish nothing but the best for Coop in the future and I too will rememeber the play in the FSU game. But, I have to concur with the coaches on his play this season. On more than one occassion I recall him flying past the receiver/back and missing tackles that allowed large gains. Fundamentals appeared a little rusty. Speed is great but you got to break it down sometimes. I have no doubt he could have worked back up the depth chart but it appears he was not patient enough to let that happen.

To all those berating our coaching staff for letting go of a prized athlete, why weren’t other top tier schools lining up to scoop up this prized athlete? I also thank Cooper for his huge play against FSU and his play for the Jackets overall, but I trust our coaching staff when they say he wasn’t able to earn playing time.

Students transfer from one school to another every year, and that includes scholarship athletes. The reasons for the transfer are many and varied, and in most cases intensely personal. If Cooper wanted us to know why he quit the team and transferred, then he would have told us. As it is, he has intentionally been silent on the subject … so I suggest that we accept the fact and let it go.

I wish Coop well as he makes this transition, and I appreciate his efforts while on the field for the Jackets! … ’nuff said.

I hate to say this, but people i know on the team echo what was written: Cooper just plain was not beating out the other guys in practice, according to the coaches (and at least a few players). Then , when the secondary would get beat in games, it incensed him that he was not in there instead of the other guys. Anyone who went to a game had to witness THAT (i.e., his rants on the sideline). Whether he SHOULD have been in there will be a debate, but what I wrote above is just plain fact.

I was at the SC State game and as a former football player and assistant coach I was excited about seeing #22 back on the field. When I left the game I said “we’re (TECH) are in trouble because the secondary sucks and Cooper Taylor looked extremely lost and out of place”. SC State had guys wide open all day! Taylor wasn’t playing well at all!
