Which ACC team will go where? Who knows?

Saturday was another odd day for the ACC.

Virginia Tech will play Florida State for the conference championship in Charlotte.

The winner will play in the Orange Bowl. The loser will play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

After that, which ACC team will go where?

Seven teams are clumped together with 5-3 or 4-4 conference records.

If you’re the Champs Sports Bowl, which of the remaining ACC teams would you select:

  • Clemson, which travels well (bowl parlance for its fans will arrive by the thousands and spend lots more), but got drilled by South Carolina on Saturday?
  • Miami, which is close geographically but doesn’t travel well and just fired its head coach?
  • Maryland, which had a great season but has no sex appeal?
  • N.C. State, which had a good season but couldn’t win its most important game against the Terrapins and lost a chance to play for the conference title?
  • North Carolina, whose season has been surprisingly solid, but is also tainted by NCAA scandal?
  • Boston College? Seriously?
  • Tech, which has the reputation, deserved or not, of not traveling well?

And there are many bowls behind them that must figure out the best matchup that will generate TV ratings and make tourism boards happy.

It won’t be an easy task.

By its exciting loss to Georgia, the Yellow Jackets may have played their way out of the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La. and into the Music City Bowl in Nashville.

What would you do?

The order, after the Chick-fil-A Bowl:

Bowl………………………………………….My guess

Champs Sports Bowl…………………Maryland (the chic pick in the ACC)

Sun Bowl…………………………………..Clemson (only because it travels)

Meineke Car Bowl…………………….N.C. State (they have to have a Carolina-based team and the Tar Heels have played in this way too many times)

Music City Bowl………………………..North Carolina (I flip-flopped between Tech and the Tar Heels here)

Independence Bowl…………………..Miami (fire your coach and it’s a hard sell)

Military Bowl…………………………….Georgia Tech

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl…………..Boston College (sorry Eagles, you’re going to San Fran again)

GT can’t refuse to go to a bowl per their ACC affiliation. Regardless of where it is the Acc teams must go to fill the 9 slots allotted the conference. In addition they split the conference pay outs so from a money standpoint it doesn’t matter which bowl it is. I agree that GT most likely will play Navy in the dc bowl. As for Nesbitt he will play regardless of where or when it is.

How do you drown a Clemson fan?

Send them to a bowl game west of the Mississippi River.

Reality Stinks…when is the last time UGA went to a bowl? You’ll never beat U Meyer and Tenneweak will eventually wake up and hire a big time coach…..you’re in the same boat as us brainless GT fans… Its sad when your signature win of 2010 came against a lowly GT team AT HOME. And it took a whiffed kick to get it done. The allmighty dawgs have sunk just as low. Welcome to the neighborhood joker.

Correction: When is the last time UGA went to a BCS bowl? Of course, we could ask the last time UGA went to a meanigful bowl outside the hampton inn, Shreveport.

Every time you use the words “doesn’t travel well” gives the impression that it is true. Just give us the facts, please.

I would like to send just about any SEC school to a bowl in San Fran and see how well they travel. The SEC doesn’t have any bowl tie-ins west of the Cotton Bowl, so they don’t have to worry about travel. The ACC will send to three team to Bowls outside of the conference footprint (Independence, Sun, and Kraft Fight Hunger). Well, duh, of course there will be travel issues. By the way, which is farther, Atlanta to Shreveport or Shreveport to El Paso…. think carefully, you might be surprised.

All the above wrangling just goes to show what an absurd farce the bowl game “system” is. IMO Tech, with its record and performance this year, has no business in a bowl. But we have to go, and go to whichever committee picks us, we got no choice. So let’s hope we get to play a team we can beat. Again, IMO, either UT or Boise would thump us pretty good. Otherwise, I don’t care — does anybody else, really? As far as Nesbitt is concerned, why does anyone pine to see him play “one more game?” He’d likely hold back cause he’d be afraid of getting hurt and spoil that big NFL contract he went to Tech to get. Besides, it’s to Tech’s best interests to give the new guy, whatsisname, some more game reps.

My huuby James, is the ACC 2010 CHAMP. We are so proud. Boise thought that they were good beating Va Tech but we know now that even Boise sucks.

Go Dogs.

Anybody who says their team should not play in a bowl is an obvious moron. The NCAA lets you have 15 more practices. Tech in particular needs all the practice it can get.

The big question is if the Music City Bowl picks UT and UNC will UT back out?

Never knew SEC would be so scared of an ACC team.

Exactly a year ago today the nerd fans were ragging UGA for playing in the pathetic Roto-Rooter Bowl. Now, as fate would have it, the bugs find themselves in that exact same game!!! At least UGA faced a Big 12 opponent last year, LOL!!!!

SUCK ON IT, NERDS!!!!!!
